  • Patent number: 4911839
Abstract: A membrane filter press has a series of filter plates having an imperforate pipped membrane mounted on each side or one side thereof. Inlet ports are provided with a cantilevered retainer which support adjacent portions of the membrane when the membrane is expanded to effect a squeezing of filter cake deposited on filter media carried by pips on the membrane. The retainer may be circular in the case of a center inlet port or linear in the case of a corner inlet port. Corner outlet ports are provided in the filter plate, with the plate having a linear collection groove juxtaposed to an outer edge portion of the membrane so that filtrate flow from around the membrane pips to the collection groove and by passages only in the plate are conveyed to an outlet port. A beaded membrane rib enhances the connection of the membrane in a filter plate groove at a position adjacent to the plate seal face of adjoining filter plates.

  • Patent number: 4643827
Abstract: A filter press, for cake or precoat filtration, including one or more filter units, each of which includes slurry frames, filter plates, and support sheets or surfaces. Each of the filter plates is provided with at least one filtrate discharge, and each support sheet or surface, which is disposed on one side of a given filter plate, has associate therewith one of the slurry frames, which has a filling space which is directed toward the caking side of the support sheet or surface, an upper and lower connection for venting and discharge, and a supply conduit for medium which is to be filtered. Associated with each of the slurry frames is a distribution chamber which communicates with the filling space of one of each of the support sheets or surfaces, which are in a sealed state with the slurry frame via a press border. The communication is established via a partition which borders one of the filling spaces and extends parallel to the support sheet or surface.

  • Patent number: 4633775
Abstract: The invention relates to the attachment of a filter mat (10), woven from stainless steel wire, to a press plate (8) of a cocoa press. It is known to insert the bent-over edge part of the mat (10) into a groove (15) in the press plate (8) and fix it by means of a pressed-in cord (19). In order to avoid the mat being broken at the place of bending, it is proposed according to the invention that the opposite walls (16, 17) of the groove against which the peripheral edge of the filter mat (10) and the cord (19) are pressed should form an angle between 25.degree. and 55.degree. with the surface of the press plate.

  • Patent number: 4608164
Abstract: A membrane filter press comprises a plurality of one piece plastic base plates having on opposite sides recesses each bounded by a lower inner peripheral portion surrounded by a higher outer peripheral portion. In the lower inner peripheral portion of the base plate there is a circumferential groove. On each side of the base plate there is a membrane of elastomeric material. The membrane is planar in unstressed condition and has a marginal portion seated on the lower inner peripheral portion of the base plate. A rib on the membrane is received in the circumferential groove of the base plate. An inlet for a suspension to be filtered provides inlet passages into spaces between filter cloths of adjacent filter units. At a position for filtrate outlet, passages in the membrane and the base plate connect with a filtrate outlet opening.

Abstract: A filter press tray separating device has a latch and a pawl for engaging neighboring plates to be separated from the end of a pack of plates and means for separating the pawl from the latch while they engage respectively the end and next-to-end plates of the pack so that the separating force exerted by the pawl on the end plate is matched by an opposite reactive force exerted by the latch on the next-to-end plate, the device including means for disengaging the latch and pawl when a plate has been separated and for repositioning it at the next pair of plates to be separated. The latch and the pawl are both carried by a movable carriage means that moves along a stationary frame that extends along the longitudinal axis of the pack of plates.

  • Patent number: 4565637
Abstract: Filter cake formed from a slurry is dried in a filter press comprising a plurality of filtration units each having a chamber bounded by a pair of opposed flexible walls with at least one of said walls being constituted by a filter medium. The flexible walls are sandwiched between flexible membranes. The filter cake is formed and compressed in the chambers by hydraulic fluid pressure acting on the flexible membranes. By means of pressure oscillations set up in the hydraulic fluid, the filter cake in the chambers is deformed by bowing from side to side of an initial central plane, whereby drying is improved.

  • Patent number: 4508623
Abstract: A filter-press plate assembly has a substantially rigid support plate having a face formed of a central region and an outer periphery bounding the region, a substantially rigid annular frame having an annular face at least closely confronting the support-plate face at the periphery, and a generally planar and elastically deformable central filter panel formed integrally with the frame and engageable with the central region within the periphery. The filter panel forms a pressurizable chamber with the support plate so that pressurization of the chamber can press a filter cloth lying on the filter panel toward another such filter cloth of an adjacent such assembly. An annular groove formed at the outer periphery in one of the faces is open toward the other face and an annular ridge formed on and projecting from the other face fits in this groove. Respective seal rings are recessed in the plate and frame and project oppositely therefrom at the outer periphery.

  • Patent number: 4495071
Abstract: A liquid filtering apparatus comprises upper and lower platens and a plurality of intermediate plate members between the platens. When pressed together with a sheet of filter media between each pair of adjacent plates, a fluid-tight chamber for incoming liquid to be filtered is formed on one side of the filter media. When the filter media requires replacement, the upper platen is lifted to separate the plates. Each plate is provided with combined alignment and stop means so that when the plates are again brought together after renewal of the filter media, they will automatically resume their normal stacked position in proper alignment, the stop means also providing a preselected amount of space between adjacent plates to cause a desired amount of compression for a sealing member between the plates. The alignment and stop means is designed to absorb the compression load on the plates, thereby enabling them to be made of lighter metal or plastic materials without overstressing their side walls.

  • Patent number: 4329228
Abstract: An improved filter plate of the type used with a vertical stack of other such plates to form an industrial filter of the type known as a horizontal plate filter. The improved filter plate has a generally upright side wall, and a divider plate or transverse planar plate portion secured to the side wall below the upper margin thereof. An open top trough is formed in the divider plate to receive the filtrate passing through a filter medium above the filter plate when the latter forms a part of a horizontal plate filter. A hole in the side wall permits the filtrate to be removed from the trough. The filter plate further includes a fluid inlet conduit and an air vent/blowdown conduit extending through the side wall into the space below the divider plate. The trough and removable conduits eliminate the need for fixed baffles for use as the fluid inlet, outlet, and blowdown means as found in a conventional filter plate.
