  • Patent number: 6666968
Abstract: An oil filter assembly has an outer canister in which full flow and bypass flow filtration sections are operatively housed in a nested relationship. Oil forced into the canister has imparted thereto a vortex flow pattern which forces contaminant particles in the oil away from the full flow filter section before the oil passes therethrough. The bypass filtration section is disposed within the full flow filtration section and creates a second vortex flow pattern in the oil which induces a small portion thereof to flow through a bypass filter element while at the same time causing the entire balance of the oil to bypass this filter element and be discharged from the canister after having traversed the filtering portion of only the full flow filtration portion of the filter assembly.

  • Patent number: 6645373
Abstract: The dual element water sensing fuel dispenser filter comprises a housing with an open end. An end plate is positioned in the open end. Contained within the housing is a filter element assembly that includes a first filter portion and a second filter portion. The first filter portion is formed from an annular pleated paper filter media comprised of two layers with a water sensing chemical therebetween. Disposed within the pleated paper filter media are a pair of generally concentric perforate cores containing a chemical fill therebetween. The pleated paper filter media will remove particulate matter from the fuel, whether the fuel be gasoline or an alcohol-gasoline blended fuel. The water sensing chemical in the pleated paper filter media will sense and remove water from the gasoline fuel. The chemical fill will sense the phase separation in the alcohol-gasoline blended fuel and will swell and gell to preclude water from passing through the filter.

Abstract: A filter assembly designed for use in a water treatment system is provided. The assembly includes an inner carbon-based filter and an outer replaceable pleated filter. Untreated water flows first through the outer filter, which traps particulates, and then through the inner carbon-based filter, which traps particulates and adsorbs contaminants from the water. The outer filter is intended to be easily removed from the inner filter, so that the outer filter can be removed and cleaned or replaced when plugged with particulates. Abstract: A hybrid oil filter assembly includes a housing and a first (e.g., conventional) oil filter element disposed in proximity to a bottom portion of the housing. The first oil filter element contains an open inner volume. A second oil filter element having a generally circular cylindrical shape is disposed circumferentially about a length of the first oil filter element. The second oil filter element may be made of rolled paper and filters particles of a smaller size than the first oil filter element (e.g., down to about one microns, thereby providing micro-filtering of the engine oil). A first oil inlet is disposed at the bottom portion of the housing for providing oil to be filtered to side surfaces of the first oil filter element, wherein filtered oil flows through a thickness of the first oil filter element to the centrally located open inner volume, and from the centrally located open inner volume through an outlet of the filter housing.

Abstract: A filter for removing solids from a liquid comprising a filter housing with an inlet and an outlet, a first filtration element nested within the filter housing and having a first plurality of openings, a second filtration element nested within the first filtration element and having a second plurality of openings for filtering grease and non-particulate substances, where the second filtration element has a shorter height with an upper end thereof being located below at least one opening of the first filtration element thereby allowing bypassing of the second filtration element. Alternatively, the filter may also include a third filtration element nested within the second filtration element and having a third plurality of openings where the second filtration element has a shorter height than the third filtration element, an upper end of the second filtration element being located below at least one opening of the third filtration element thereby allowing bypass of the second filtration element.

  • Patent number: 6371307
Abstract: In accordance with this invention, an improved filter resembling an envelope is disclosed. The filter envelope for the filter frame element includes an enclosure, the enclosure being constructed from planar first and second filter paper members lying atop one another. The first and second filter paper members each have a lateral, medial, base, and top sides, the lateral, medial, and base sides being connected to each other, respectively, to define the enclosure. The top side of the first member is not connected to the top side of the second member so as to define an opening in the enclosure to receive the frame. A closure is formed from a planar third filter paper member which is connected to a portion of the enclosure being proximate to the opening. The third filter paper member is movable between a first position and a second position, the second position being suited to close the opening.
