Patent number: 8083936Abstract: The production of purified water from a residential reverse osmosis drinking water system is limited by the pressure build up in the holding tank or reservoir. While the pressure in the tank increases the brine or waste water continues to flow at a constant rate. This condition makes an undesirable out of proportion relationship between the purified water and the waste water. The production of product water is controlled by the differential pressure across the purification membrane, as the tank pressure increases the differential pressure decreases and reduced production of product water results. The purpose of the device is to utilize the increasing tank pressure as a force to actuate the valve that proportions the waste water in a direct relationship with the product water. The ratio between the product water and the waste water remains constant during the period that purified water is being delivered to the holding tank.Type: GrantFiled: March 3, 2009Date of Patent: December 27, 2011Inventor: Robert Walker

Publication number: 20090166284Abstract: Disclosed is a filter system with at least one filter element (1) that is arranged below the surface of a body of water, with a fluid to be cleaned that can flow from the inner fluid chamber (11) of the filter element to the exterior of the latter, and that is surrounded by the body of water on the exterior such that the cleaned fluid can be discharged into said water. The filter element (1) has a column-like shape defining a vertical axis and is immersed in the body of water with the vertical axis running essentially vertical. The exterior of the filter element is surrounded by a sheath (25) that forms a flow canal (29) for a vertical flow of the body of water between said sheath and the exterior of the filter element (1).Type: ApplicationFiled: June 27, 2007Publication date: July 2, 2009Inventors: Dieter Theis, Thomas Schneider, Ralf Wnuk

Publication number: 20090114588Abstract: A “no filter, no run” filtration system that is designed to verify that an appropriate filter cartridge is installed. A flow control sleeve is provided on a standpipe to control the flow of fluid, for example fuel, into the standpipe. The sleeve can be axially moveable between closed and open positions, with one or more members on an installed filter cartridge designed to release the sleeve to permit the movement from the closed position to the open position to allow fluid flow. A spring acts on the sleeve to bias the sleeve back to the closed position upon removal of the filter cartridge. The sleeve can also be designed without axial movement, but nonetheless is configured to be opened and closed to control fluid flow into the standpipe.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 6, 2007Publication date: May 7, 2009Applicant: CUMMINS FILTRATION IP, INC.Inventors: Ismail BAGCI, Chad T. Publication number: 20090065447Abstract: Various “no filter, no run” fuel filtration designs are described that include a variable restriction orifice (VRO) designed to vary the amount of fluid, for example fuel, that reaches a fluid outlet. The VRO has a fully open position at which a maximum non-zero fluid flow is permitted, and a fully closed position at which a limited amount of fluid can flow to the outlet. In the case of diesel fuel, the amount of fuel flow permitted at the fully closed position provides lubrication of downstream fuel system components, for example the fuel pump, but is insufficient to permit engine operation.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 12, 2007Publication date: March 12, 2009Applicant: CUMMINS FILTRATION IP, INC.Inventors: Todd FORREST, J. Publication number: 20090045109Abstract: A filter cartridge with a valve actuating protrusion having a sliding surface that is configured to engage with a valve, with the sliding surface being tapered so that a first portion of the sliding surface that engages the valve is wider than a second portion of the sliding surface that engages the valve, and the sliding surface is configured so that the first portion engages the valve before the second portion. The valve, which can be in any fluid passage of a filter housing, includes a plurality of spring arms. Engagement between the spring arms and the sliding surface creates a lifting force which opens the valve.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 15, 2007Publication date: February 19, 2009Applicant: CUMMINS FILTRATION IP, INC.Inventors: Wassem ABDALLA, Peter K. Patent number: 7491321Abstract: Contaminants are removed from fluid in a system where the fluid is sprayed into an air head at the top of a tank through a diffuser and withdrawn through a pick-up tube. A solenoid valve operates to allow oxygen-containing gas from a compressed gas source to flow into the tank through a shuttle valve, which is opened by the gas pressure. Simultaneously, a drain valve connected to the shuttle valve opens a drain, venting water and air from the tank. The solenoid valve also operates to close the gas supply line and connect the shuttle valve through a vent to atmosphere. Pressure within the tank closes the shuttle valve, which in turn closes the drain valve and disconnects the shuttle valve from the tank. A one-way-flow valve prevents fluid or gas from flowing from the tank backwards through the shuttle valve to the solenoid valve and out the vent.Type: GrantFiled: July 18, 2006Date of Patent: February 17, 2009Assignee: Hellenbrand, Inc.Inventors: Edward T. Patent number: 7481928Abstract: A filter assembly for filtering water from an external source, the filter assembly having a manifold assembly and a filter cartridge. The filter cartridge includes a cartridge engagement means while the manifold includes a manifold engagement means. The cartridge engagement means and manifold engagement means cooperatively interfacing for removable attachment of the filter cartridge to the manifold assembly. The cartridge engagement means and manifold engagement means oriented in a retaining relation during removal of the cartridge filter from the manifold assembly such that any entrained pressure within the cartridge filter is vented while the cartridge engagement means and manifold engagement means are in the retaining relation.Type: GrantFiled: December 14, 2004Date of Patent: January 27, 2009Assignee: 3M Innovative Properties CompanyInventor: Karl Fritze

Publication number: 20090014381Abstract: A fluid filter device is described, where a flow attachment member provides a unique interface between the filtering element and a filter head. The fluid filter described herein generally provides a flow structure that is localized and sealed. The flow attachment member is configured to communicate fluid into and out of the fluid filter, and is configured to localize fluid flow both into and out of the fluid filter within a separating structure of the flow attachment member. The flow attachment member further includes a seal structure configured to substantially prevent or at least confine leakage to a localized area away from proximity of the edges of the housing.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 13, 2007Publication date: January 15, 2009Applicant: CUMMINS FILTRATION IP, INC.Inventors: Kevin C.
