Drawbars Patents (Class 213/62R)
  • Patent number: 4422557
Abstract: A drawbar assembly comprising a drawbar and a buffing block device constructed and arranged so as to provide a turning moment which tends to align the horizontally displaced adjacent ends of the railway vehicle to which the drawbar is connected when said drawbar is operating under buff loading.

  • Patent number: 4350256
Abstract: A rotary F coupler is described as having an improved pinhole design, wherein the backwall of the pinhole has a generally cylindrical, rectangularly shaped pin bearing surface which projects into the pinhole about three-quarters of an inch, compared to the conventional projection or crown of one-quarter of an inch, and in such a way as to prevent unduly high stress concentrations in the coupler shank caused by contact of the shank and pivot pin during vertical angling of the coupler.

  • Patent number: 4343407
Abstract: A rigidifying arrangement for self lubricating wear plate assemblies employed for supporting the inner end of the vertical yoke used in railroad car coupler draft gear rigging, in which the wear plate is in the form of a support plate of channel shaped transverse cross section configuration having a planar web portion equipped with a special polymeric liner for supporting the yoke inner end at its operative level within the car center sill. The support plate is rigidified to maintain its planar configuration under the weight of the draft gear and yoke acting on it, by forming same to be of the indicated channel shaped configuration defining along either side edge of the plate web portion a depending flange, in which the flanges are proportioned relative to the plate web portion to provide a yoke support plate of one piece construction that is three times as strong as the conventional draft gear wear plate while being only approximately one third the weight of same.

  • Patent number: 4267935
Abstract: A rotary railway car coupler has a shank with a butt end portion for mounting to a coupler yoke and a head end portion on its opposite end portion. A coupler head has a guard arm side portion, a knuckle side portion and a knuckle mounted therewith for cooperative connection with another mating railway car coupler. The shank has on its head end portion a mount for rotatably mounting the coupler head. A mount within the coupler head rotatably connects the coupler head and the coupler shank for rotation of the coupler head relative to the shank.

  • Patent number: 4236644
Abstract: A car coupler having a coupler head with coupling structure and a shank extending from the coupler head and terminating at a butt end in which a configured recess is formed. A replaceable, nonmetallic wearplate is disposed within the recess and has an outer, convexly curved surface for resting in a concave seat of a front follower, and matingly inclined surfaces on the wearplate and recess for frictionally holding the wearplate within the recess.

  • Patent number: 4120404
Abstract: This invention relates to a coupler shank bearing arrangement for supporting a railroad car coupler on its coupler carrier, and more specifically, to a railroad car coupler support arrangement in which the familiar coupler wear plate that rides on the coupler carrier is replaced by a bearing arrangement of the plane bearing type that provides for essentially wear free support of the coupler on its carrier. The coupler shank lower wall is formed with an elongate mounting slot at the location of application of the conventional wear plate, and extending longitudinally of the coupler shank, to which slot is applied a one piece bearing structure formed from an ultra high molecular weight polymer of dry self lubricating characteristics.

  • Patent number: 4064998
Abstract: The invention relates to a rapid transit draft rigging for an automatic coupler wherein a draft gear cushioning device is held within a pocket of a housing exterior to a drawbar that will release by a predetermined force to provide long free travel, permitting the coupler and draft gear arrangement to move out of the way so that they are not damaged by an accident that deforms the end of the car.

  • Patent number: 4059192
Abstract: The coupler height of a railway car is adjustable by means of a shim disposed between the coupler carrier and the wear plate and inserted through an opening provided at one side of the striking casting. An enlarged central portion of the shim extends toward the draft bar yoke of the coupler to avoid any reduction of bearing surface between the coupler carrier and the wear plate. A portion of the shim also lies within the side opening, which opening is defined by an enlarged outwardly extending portion of the striking casting having holes therein in axial alignment with a hole in the shim portion for the reception of a fastener to retain the shim in place. The aligned holes are offset from the longitudinal centerline of the shim so as to effect a misalignment of the holes upon incorrect insertion of the shim.

  • Patent number: 4051954
Abstract: The following specification describes a replacement method and part for a coupler butt end in which the coupler is severed at the narrow hollow perimeter wall of the coupler shank close to the solid worn butt end portion. A cast replacement butt end part having a chamfer at the front end and a ring lip spaced inwardly of the front end is fitted to the coupler shank and welded thereto. The lip serves as a back up for the weld between the end surfaces of the coupler shank and the front end of the replacement part.
