Stopper-type Closure Patents (Class 215/296)
  • Patent number: 4172532
Abstract: A closure assembly for a bottle or container which has a cylindrical neck portion and a lid with a skirt. The lid skirt is detachably fitted to the neck portion by cooperating beads on it and a cylindrical collar which is securely mounted on the neck portion by transverse members. The collar is disposed at a radial distance from the neck portion and encloses at least part of the skirt. The transverse members are adapted to cooperate in a camming manner with one or more projections on the skirt so that turning of the fitted lid relatively to the neck portion results in an axial displacement of the lid. The lid is constructed to be turned by an implement such as a T-shaped handle key or a coin. For this a slot can be provided disposed along a diameter. The inside of the lid can be formed with projecting wall members defining an inwardly closed cavity around the slot with shape of a narrow cylindrical section.

  • Patent number: 4159780
Abstract: A child-resistant container, e.g. a child-resistant medicine bottle, comprises in combination a container having a neck, a plug or other closure insertable in the neck with the plane of its upper surface extending not substantially beyond the plane of the upper surface of the neck, and rotary interengaging means interengaging the closure and the container neck. A key adapted to overlie the closure has gravity-actuated pin and socket means capable of releasably interengaging the closure and the key. Upon application, the key is operative to engage the closure with the neck and to disengage it therefrom.

  • Patent number: 4098417
Abstract: A plug fitment adapted to be removably inserted in a circular port to seal same in a substantially air tight manner comprises a somewhat flexible body of generally cylindrical shape. The body has an open upper end and an interior region bounded by an inner wall and communicating with the open end and has a vertical axis. The upper end has a circular peripheral lip lying in a horizontal plane and having an inner periphery defining the periphery of a circular opening centered on said axis. Slightly flexible means disposed in said upper end and said region includes a vertical member spaced from the inner wall and aligned with said axis. The member has a top end disposed below said horizontal plane. The member has a vertical slit extending downwardly from the top end to a bottom position intermediate the top end and the bottom of said member. A circular generally flat slightly flexible key disc is disposed horizontally and removably in said opening.

  • Patent number: 4067473
Abstract: Non contaminating stopper remover means for removing test tube stoppers of the type having a center portion extending into the test tube and an upper portion having a continuous edge over the edge of the test tube stopper remover. A hollow cylindrical member has an open end adapted to fit over the stopper inserted in the test tube. The stopper remover may have an inwardly extending rim or binding surface adapted to fit the extending upper portion of the stopper so that the stopper may be removed by slipping the stopper remover over the stopper and squeezing, pulling or bending to one side of the test tube. The stopper remover is longer than the stopper so that when the stopper is removed any contamination by the stopper is prevented.

  • Patent number: 4056209
Abstract: A child proof medication bottle including a female, interiorly threaded opening adapted for dispensing medication in pill form or similar use, provided with a male, externally threaded cap, inserted into the female opening. On insertion, the male cap or plug is received within the opening to a depth wherein only a hemispherical projection is exposed outside the confines of the bottle. This smooth hemispherical projection lacks the necessary grasping surfaces for withdrawal thereof and is thus rendered child proof. The bottom end of the bottle is similarly shaped in the form of a hemisphere adapted for receipt in the interior of the cylindrical key structure provided with a flat end for upright support and including two key elements insertable into corresponding slots formed in the hemispherical surface of the cap. Thus the cylindrical key structure may be utilized to open providing a reminder to the user to return the key to its stored position.

  • Patent number: 4027776
Abstract: A resealable container comprising container means and closure means adapted to sealingly cooperate with said container means, said container means having a sidewall with at least one open end portion defining an opening, said open end portion having first sealable means for enabling the formation of two separate and positive seals substantially about the periphery of said open end portion, said closure means including, in integral combination, a generally peripheral shoulder portion being adapted to be seated on said open end portion, a flange portion connected to said shoulder portion and defining second sealable means for sealingly interfitting and cooperating with said first sealable means to provide the two separate and positive seals, and flexible means for enabling quick and easy engagement and disengagement of the two separate and positive seals formed by said first and second sealable means in response to displacement of the flexible means.

  • Patent number: 3986714
Abstract: Plugs are fitted in the thumb and fingerholes of a bowling ball so that when the fingertip enters it will touch the plug at the precise time that the finger has reached the depth found by the bowler to be most comfortable and satisfactory. The plug has a spiral passageway therein useful with a spiral removal tool for repeated non-destructive removal of the plug for cutting it to shorten it, followed by re-installation of the plug and eventual sealing in the hole when the proper fit is achieved.

  • Patent number: 3970207
Abstract: A plastic stopper is used for small-diameter bottle necks such as are conventionally closed by corks. A top disk is annular in that a central hole is formed and below the disk is a pocket having an inside diameter coinciding with the central hole. The pocket is closed at the bottom. The pocket is dimensioned to receive a standard corkscrew with a tight enough grip to permit the stopper to be drawn. The disk also has a peripheral depending skirt having an outside diameter such that it fits tightly in the bottle neck. The lower outer edge of the skirt is tapered to facilitate seating. An annular space below the disk between the skirt and the pocket affords flexibility to the stopper for seating and pulling and also can be partially filled with liquid to reduce the amount of air in the headspace of the bottle.

  • Patent number: 3937347
Abstract: An apothecary safety closure for a bottle neck capable of preventing inadvertent opening of the bottle is provided. The safety closure includes a liner adapted to be inserted into and frictionally engaged by the bottle neck. The liner includes a recess therein and structure for effecting a removal of the liner from the bottle neck. A stopper includes a cylindrical wall portion adapted to be inserted into the liner recess and rotated therein. The cylindrical wall portion is formed with operative portions adapted to be selectively aligned with the operative structure on the liner in response to selective rotation of the stopper to effect removal of the liner from the bottle neck by the stopper.
