Patent number: 5219007Abstract: An inner lid is attached to a vacuum chamber, covering an inner region of the vacuum chamber. An outer lid, also attached to the vacuum chamber, covers the inner lid, leaving a region between the inner lid and the outer lid. A gas conduit allows gas to flow between the inner region of the vacuum chamber and the region between the inner lid and the outer lid. A filter is placed in or immediately outside the gas conduit to prevent particles from entering the inner region of the vacuum chamber from the region between the inner lid and the outer lid. Since the pressure is the same on the top and bottom of the inner lid, the inner lid does not flex and thus does not rub against the vacuum chamber when the vacuum chamber is pumped down or vented up.Type: GrantFiled: December 6, 1991Date of Patent: June 15, 1993Assignee: Applied Materials, Inc.Inventor: Peter Ebbing

Patent number: 5199239Abstract: The joint between two nearly rigid, mating walls has a tongue on one wall's surface and a groove on the other wall's surface which have special cross section shapes cooperating to resist penetration of the joint by fluids such as water. At least one of the walls is formed of a plastic material which deforms under compressive loading. The shape of the tongue includes sides thereof which intersect the end to form corners defining the longitudinal edges of the tongue. The groove has walls which converge toward each other at the bottom of the groove from a mouth wider than the width of the end of the tongue. The shape of the groove forms a line of contact with each of the tongue's corners when the tongue is mated with the groove. During assembly, the corners of the tongue are forced into the walls of the groove by some type of clamping mechanism so as to at least slightly deform at least one of the tongue and groove.Type: GrantFiled: September 30, 1991Date of Patent: April 6, 1993Assignee: Honeywell Inc.Inventor: Edgar W. Patent number: 5069371Abstract: A bulk material container with an opening has a door arranged to move over a rectilinear path for the opening and the closing of the opening. For moving the door over a rectilinear path to either open or close the opening, a threaded shaft is journalled for rotation within the container and is aligned axially with the center of the door. Means on the threaded shaft engage the door so that the door is moved over the rectilinear path by the rotation of the threaded shaft. A gasket surrounds the opening at the time of closure by the door. Continued rotation of the shaft for the closure of the door will cause the gasket to be compressed against the plate surrounding the opening. Rotation of the door is inhibited while the gasket is being compressed.Type: GrantFiled: January 25, 1990Date of Patent: December 3, 1991Assignee: Fabricated Metals, Inc.Inventor: Clarence B. Coleman

Patent number: 4643332Abstract: Fluid cylinder of the repairable type having a plurality of tie rod members to retain a tubular member between a pair of end cap members is constructed so that the O-rings or gaskets normally used to seal the tubular member to the end caps can be eliminated. The tubular member is formed of a material such as stainless steel which is harder and has a higher yield strength that the material of the end caps, which is preferably an aluminum alloy. The mating surfaces are machined to be very smooth and flat so that the relatively thin wall of the tube will cause deformation of the end caps within their elastic limit, thus providing a metal to metal seal which permits the parts of the cylinder to be assembled and reassembled without danger of leakage. A surface finish on the mating parts of 32 microinches appears to be quite satisfactory.Type: GrantFiled: May 5, 1986Date of Patent: February 17, 1987Inventor: Charles W. Bimba

Patent number: 4643878Abstract: A toxic substance extraction cell includes a chamber for housing a heated solvent, a pair of gaskets adapted to be seated on the solvent housing between which is clamped a specimen to be tested; the space between the gaskets being liquid tight, and a cover for clamping the gaskets to the solvent housing. After assembly of the cell with the preheated solvent in the housing and the specimen to be tested between the gaskets, the cell is inverted and supported on a plurality of legs provided on the cover. The solvent is thus placed in contact with the specimen in order to dissolve any toxic substances contained within the specimen. The cell is then reinverted and supported on a suitable stand and allowed to cool, disassembled, and the solvent removed and tested for toxic residue.Type: GrantFiled: October 18, 1984Date of Patent: February 17, 1987Assignee: Waldorf CorporationInventors: George M. Patent number: 4632279Abstract: A heat insulated manually portable container for dispensing molten plastics material and having a movable piston within a cylinder, a heater for plastics material and a closure equipped with a locking means. The locking means is exteriorly positioned of the reservoir and comprises pairs of complementary screw-threaded members which are engageable through aligned slots in the closure and a body defining the cylinder. The members of each pair are movable along the slots to a quick release position which allows for withdrawal of the members through the closure slots upon opening of the closure.Type: GrantFiled: November 22, 1985Date of Patent: December 30, 1986Assignee: Northern Telecom LimitedInventors: Michael J. Patent number: 4632269Abstract: Waterproof electrical enclosures for the encapsulation of electrical and electronic components have a box-like base part to be fixed to a support surface by screws or like mounting fixtures and a sealing cover held to the base part by special fasteners located in special mounting points in the corners of the enclosure. Each mounting point has a single channel extending into the base part which in cross-section size corresponds to the size of the head of a mounting fixture and narrows to an aperture for the shaft of the mounting fixture in the bottom of the base part. There are fasteners fitted through the cover, each with a connection piece thereof larger than the shaft of the fastener, such piece being fixable in the top of a base part channel to connect the cover fastener to the base part.Type: GrantFiled: March 10, 1986Date of Patent: December 30, 1986Inventor: Friedhelm Rose

Patent number: 4625891Abstract: A lock for the lid of a container used in disposing of low specific activity, minimally contaminated waste material, with the lock so constructed so as to be releasable or permanent, and to give visual indication of either condition. The lock structure includes a lid contacting member that may be releasably or permanently connected to a latch plate insertable into a restraining member carried by the side wall of the container.Type: GrantFiled: December 20, 1985Date of Patent: December 2, 1986Assignee: Container Products Corp.Inventor: Gerald C. Patent number: 4601923Abstract: A mold made of steel and intended for manufacturing tubular objects by a centrifugal casting concrete method is formed of two semicylindrical shells having longitudinal flanges to which locking wedges are welded. The locking wedges provided on the two opposing flanges have oblique surfaces cooperating with each other. The oblique surfaces of the locking wedges extend over a plane of separation between two flanges when the mold is in a closed position.Type: GrantFiled: June 13, 1985Date of Patent: July 22, 1986Assignee: Centricon Maschinenbau Emil Bonato & Co. Patent number: 4600115Abstract: The invention relates to a temporary sealing obturation panel, inside a vessel accessible only through a manhole, of a passage provided on its periphery with a support collar. It is constituted by: panels articulated by flexible fluid-tight hinges, bordered by lines of latching pins, stiffeners comprising lines of holes conjugate with the lines of pins, a frame in at least two articulated parts, with means for gripping the ends of the panels and the stiffeners against the support collar. The invention is applicable to the closing of primary circuit ducts opening into the water box of a steam generator of a pressurized water nuclear boiler.Type: GrantFiled: November 1, 1984Date of Patent: July 15, 1986Assignee: Framatome & CieInventors: Jean Coussau, Claude Lavaleric
