  • Patent number: 9314841
Abstract: Pressing device for a casting pipe at the spout of a metallurgical container, wherein the pressing device is provided with spring-loaded pressing elements that can be pressed against guide surfaces of a casting pipe. The casting pipe includes a tubular part and an upper plate. The guide surfaces are arranged on the underside of the plate on both sides of the tubular part and are directed downward at an angle. They form a plate cross-section that is tapered downward. The pressing elements are each provided with a head that is convexly curved in the adjustment direction of the casting pipe and can be pressed against a guide surface of the casting pipe, which is curved in the longitudinal direction of the pressing element or in the adjustment direction. Compressive forces exerted by the pressing pins are optimally transmitted, more toward the casting pipe opening and therefore acting more evenly.

  • Patent number: 8354354
Abstract: Disclosed is anti-alumina-buildup refractories for casting nozzles, which comprises a refractory aggregate including 20 mass % or more of CaO component, and 10 mass % or more of clinker particles each containing CaO as a mineral phase, on the basis of 100 mass % of the entire composition. At least a part of the surfaces of the CaO exposed from the surfaces of the corresponding clinker particles is formed with a CaCO3 film. The CaCO3 film releases CO2 gas through thermal decomposition to smooth an operative surface of the nozzle so as to prevent the accretion of metal thereon, so that CaO is continuously supplied to alumina attached on the operative surface to prevent alumina buildup. In addition, the CaCO3 film effectively prevents the hydration of CaO due to a hydration reaction.

Abstract: A submerged entry nozzle for flowing liquid metal therethrough includes a vertically disposed entrance pipe section having a generally axial symmetry and a first cross-sectional flow area. A transition area having the first cross-sectional flow area with two or more front walls and two or more side walls reduces the thickness of the first cross-sectional area by providing a convergent angle of the front walls and increases the width of the first cross-sectional area by providing a divergent angle of the side walls thereby producing a second cross-sectional area of the transition area which is generally elongated and of planar symmetry. The flow of liquid metal from the transition area is divided into two streams angularly deflected from the vertical in opposite directions.
