  • Patent number: 6142549
Abstract: A hidden storage system incorporated in the bed of a vehicle without altering the bed's external appearance or various contours thereof, and without revealing the storage system by assembly of modules containing various individual components. The storage system is located adjacent the wheel well sections of the bed, and uses hinges to open and close fender/side panel sections of the bed, either upwardly, downwardly or sideways. Since the storage system does not alter the truck's external appearance, it reduces the attraction for theft. Also, since the storage area does not extend inwardly beyond the conventional wheel wells, the storage system leaves most of the truck bed free for use. The hidden storage system may be incorporated into the bed of various side panel configurations without detracting from the appearance of the side panels configurations.

  • Patent number: 6105842
Abstract: A storage bag for a pickup truck provides a convenient way for people to use the bed of their pickup truck to store possessions. The storage bag is in the shape of the truck bed. The bag is preferably lightweight and waterproof. The bag is constructed from one piece of nylon to help eliminate seams, which aids in weatherproofing. A zipper extends around the top surface of the bag to aid in the opening, closing, and packing of the bag. There is also a zippered flap on the end so that cargo can be stored or retrieved by opening the hinged gate of the truck bed. The bag optionally has waterproof pockets for smaller items. Grommets are provided on an upper surface of the bag for securing the bag to the truck with rope, bungee cords, or the like. The storage bag stands alone and retains its shape without the aid of the truck. When the storage bag is empty, it is easily collapsed and folded for storage.

  • Patent number: 6077024
Abstract: A modular cargo system for a truck-style vehicle includes a cargo box having demountable pivot points on opposite sides near the front and bottom. Translating drives move along opposite sides of the truck bed and carry translating pivot blocks. Each translating pivot block has a pivotally-connected dual-link mechanism also pivotally connectable at the opposite ends to the demountable pivot points on the cargo box. The dual link mechanisms are of a length to allow the cargo box to sit on the ground behind the truck bed with the translating blocks moved near the tail end of the truck bed. By moving the translating blocks toward the cab end of the truck bed, the dual-link mechanisms articulate at an approximate end point, and the lower links are adapted to guide over the tail end of the truck bed while raising the front end of the cargo box in a manner that the front end of the cargo box clears the tail end of the truck bed. Further movement toward the cab end pulls the cargo box up into the truck bed.

  • Patent number: 5924616
Abstract: Cargo storage boxes for storing cargo in a pick-up truck are described. The pick-up truck includes a cargo bed having a cargo surface, and first and second walls extend substantially perpendicularly from opposite sides of the cargo surface. The first and second cargo bed walls extend substantially the same distance from the cargo surface, and tops of the cargo bed walls are substantially co-planar. The cargo storage box, in accordance with one embodiment of the present invention, is sized to be positioned between the first and second cargo bed walls, and includes a base wall and retaining walls extending perpendicularly from the base wall to define a cargo chamber. The retaining walls each extend substantially the same distance from the base wall, and top surfaces of the retaining walls are substantially co-planar. The distance between the base wall and the top of each retaining wall is less than the distance between the cargo surface and top surfaces of the cargo bed walls.

  • Patent number: 5899544
Abstract: A secure stowage system having first and second support members. The second support member is releasably attached to a support system such that the second support member can only be removed from the support system by first moving the second support member according to a predetermined adjustment. The first and second support members have receiving means. A lockable item is configured to fit between the first and second support members. The lockable item has a lock and first and second mating means. The first mating means are adapted to engage the receiving means of one of the first and second support members. The second mating means are likewise adapted to engage the receiving means of the other of the first and second support members. The first mating means are selectively retractable toward the lockable item, but only when the lock is in an unlocked position. The first mating means are unretractable when the lock is in a locked position.

  • Patent number: 5893599
Abstract: A utility box is mounted to a truck box without piercing the wall of the truck box. A J-bolt extends through a neoprene gasket, a washer and a back-up plate to clamp the back wall of the utility box to the front rail of a truck box. For mounting within a bedliner, the utility box is held against vertical displacement by stair stepped brackets which are bolted to the utility box to extend beneath the truck side rails. The upper faces of the stair steps are designed to interface with a variety of truck models of varying widths. When mounted in a truck box with an over-the-rail bedliner, a bolt is positioned inside the utility box and such that a shank passes through the wall of the utility box and the side wall of the liner. A spacer is positioned on the shank between the utility box wall and the wall of the liner. A collapsible nut mounted or the shank passes partway through the liner wall.

  • Patent number: 5887926
Abstract: An apparatus for holding and restraining long handled tools is described. The tool box is comprised of a plurality of longitudinally extending cylinders, the cylinders being reconfigurable for multiple different sizes or widths. The entire assembly of a plurality of cylinders is combined together such that each cylinder is securely affixed to any adjacent cylinder. This assures that the tool holder is rigidly pieced together as a single unit and may also be unconnected to resize each individual tool receiving cylinder. The assembled holder rests upon pedistals and may also be constructed with outwardly extending handles and sleeves to retain the cylinders together and provide the ability to raise and move the tool holder as a single unit.
