  • Patent number: 8608039
Abstract: A motorcycle saddlebag includes an outer panel having a forward portion that defines a forward edge, a rearward portion that defines a rearward edge, and a side portion that defines a lower edge. The outer panel includes an inner surface. The inner panel is received by the outer panel and includes a back wall and a bottom wall. The back and bottom walls define an engagement surface that engages the inner surface of the outer panel and extends along and engages the forward portion, the side portion, and the rearward portion. When the saddlebag is attached to the motorcycle, the forward and rearward edges are positioned nearer a rear fender portion than the back wall and the engagement surface, and the lower edge is positioned below the bottom wall and the engagement surface. The lid is pivotally coupled to either of the outer panel and the inner panel.

  • Patent number: 8270640
Abstract: The present invention is a sports bike-type motorcycle with a sound system deployed in major part discretely in the cowling behind the rider. The speakers are incorporated into existing features in the front of the bike, such as in the rearview mirrors. To compensate for the smaller battery of sportbikes but still deliver peak power for dynamic sound, a capacitor in electrical connection with the battery and amplifier provide effective audio response. The sound system, being incorporated into existing structural features in the sports bike, cannot be observed by passers-by and is therefore less vulnerable to theft or vandalism. Also, the profile and aerodynamics, and therefore performance characteristics of the sportsbike, are not changed or compromised by the integration of the sound system within the existing structural features of a sportsbike.

  • Patent number: 8167181
Abstract: A motorcycle saddlebag is formed of a plurality of panels. The saddlebag includes an outer panel, an inner panel, a lid, and a hinge. Some embodiments may also include a bottom panel. The lid is coupled to the outer panel by the hinge. The inner panel includes flanges extending around at least some of its perimeter edges. The outer panel is generally U-shaped shaped and receives the inner panel such that the flanges engage inner surfaces of the outer panel. The flanges are joined to the inner surfaces of the outer panel such that the outer and inner panel (and, in some embodiments, a bottom panel) cooperate to define a storage chamber. In some embodiments, portions of the outer panel extend beyond the inner panel and may be trimmed after bonding of the inner and outer panels to customize an inner contour of the saddlebag for different motorcycle applications.

  • Patent number: 6832710
Abstract: A saddlebag includes a body and a lid pivotally attached to the body by a hinge assembly. The lid moves in a substantially translational manner to disengage and engage the body, and moves in a pivotal manner when not engaging the body. The saddlebag also includes a locking assembly selectively securing the lid in a closed position and being operable via a push-button located on an outer surface of the saddlebag body. A gas spring is interconnected between the body and the lid of the saddlebag, biasing the lid toward the open position such that depressing the push button releases the lid, allowing the gas spring to expand and fully open the saddlebag with no further intervention by the operator.

  • Patent number: 6227426
Abstract: A carrier includes supports that attach to opposite sides of the axle of a steerable wheel. Extending generally vertically from the supports are cylindrical tubes that accommodate long and narrow cargo such as baseball and softball bats. The tubes are held near the top by a first bracket extending between them. A second bracket is attached to the first through an elongated slot, and secures the first bracket to the vehicle, for example, at the steering column. The carriers extend vertically beyond the first bracket and so provide support for baseball and softball gloves and mitts. A ball container is suspended from the first bracket between the tubes. When the steering column and steerable wheel are rotated, the carrier rotates also, thereby preventing interference between the carrier and the transportation device. While the invention has application with other transportation devices, particular synergy is found when the inventive carrier is used in combination with a bicycle.

  • Patent number: 6179183
Abstract: A pet carrier for use with bicycles particularly configured to allow installation at a forward position of a bicycle is presented. The particular configuration of the bottom surface of the pet carrier allows the carrier to be mounted in a forward position on a bicycle without interfering in the steering, braking, or gear shifting operations of the handlebars. Specifically, the pet carrier provides a plateaued or two-tiered surface that positions the carrier up and over the handlebars without interfering therewith. A lower bottom surface accommodates a pet's hindquarters, while the upper tiered surface accommodates the pet's forequarters. These two-tiered surfaces are separated by a sloped surface onto which the pet may rest during a bicycle ride. The carrier advantageously includes ventilation apertures or forward facing louvers to provide additional comfort to the pet.
