Patent number: 5375752Abstract: Linerless labels are manually dispensed by mounting a roll of the labels for take-off from a stationary shaft. A polygon-cross-section foam core is provided between the shaft and the label roll to provide a brake drag effect to prevent excess label unwind. The non-adhesive face of the labels passes from the roll around a freely rotating guide roller with a non-stick surface which ensures consistent wrap of the labels and no scuffing of the non-adhesive face as the labels are dispensed. The labels pass from the guide roller to a tear surface having a first smooth, coarse, ribbed or grooved pattern metal portion which has low adhesion to the adhesive of the labels, but will stick to the labels sufficiently to provide an anchoring force to a label greater than the force necessary to tear along a perforation of the label, and a second non-stick surface portion.Type: GrantFiled: October 14, 1993Date of Patent: December 27, 1994Assignee: Moore Business Forms, Inc.Inventor: Stephen Michalovic

Patent number: 5009351Abstract: The new free end formed when a portion of flexible sheet material is severed from a roll contained in a box is prevented from retracting into the box by frictional engagement between the free end and a strip of abrasive material near the cutting edge mounted on the box. A portion of the box closure resiliently urges the free end into contact with the abrasive material.Type: GrantFiled: August 24, 1988Date of Patent: April 23, 1991Inventor: Vivian M. Handler

Patent number: 4998655Abstract: A synthetic resin dispenser for dispensing packaging tape, having thin flexible sidewalls adapted to receive between them a roll of packaging tape. Bearing elements are provided and extend part way into the opening in the core of the tape roll, the bearing elements being integral with the sidewalls and having inclined cam surfaces adapted to cam the sidewalls apart. The dispenser further comprises integral synthetic resin ridges to prevent the tape from sticking to the dispenser, and which are adjacent a serrated metal blade embedded in the synthetic resin generally perpendicular to the direction of tape feed.Type: GrantFiled: June 18, 1987Date of Patent: March 12, 1991Assignee: Sunclipse, Inc.Inventor: Harrison Huang

Patent number: 4957233Abstract: A refillable tape dispenser including opposed hub portions adapted to project axially into and journal the core of a roll of tape. Each of the hub portions includes cam surfaces having ends ending at an inner surface, which cam surfaces are disposed generally parallel to a first direction in which tape is withdrawn from the dispenser and diverge away from opposite sides of the inner surface. Movement of the tape roll toward the inner surfaces of the opposed hub portions in a direction normal to the first direction will cause the tape roll to engage the cam surfaces and move one hub portion to a release position until the hub portions are aligned with and enter the central opening in the core under the influence of biasing toward that position, whereupon end surfaces of plate like parts of the hub portions will retain and journal the core around the hub portions during withdrawal of tape in the first direction.Type: GrantFiled: May 12, 1989Date of Patent: September 18, 1990Assignee: Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing CompanyInventor: Bruce E.
