  • Patent number: 5913470
Abstract: An electric motor driven roll feed system for intermittently advancing stock into the work station of a punch press. The roll feed system is designed so that its main rotating elements have greatly reduced rotational inertia. A low inertia overall roll arrangement is characterized by two relatively small diameter cooperating feed rolls that are respectively radially supported by a plurality of light back up rollers that peripherally engage these small feed rolls at locations spaced along the operative lengths of such feed rolls. The spaced rollers thus allow the applied operational stock gripping, feeding and braking forces to be distributed over several support locations along the operative axial length of each feed roll.

  • Patent number: 5833171

The nonrotating pivoting sleeve is balance-mounted in the center of the axis shaft with the pivoting bearing assembly. The pivoting bearing assembly permits a selected degree of lateral rotation in a range of from about 1 degree to about 10 degrees. As a web runs over the rotating sleeve any imbalance of lateral tension will cause the nonrotating pivoting sleeve to pivot at it's center with respect to the longitudinal axis of the shaft permitting the nonrotating pivoting sleeve and coaxial rotating sleeve to pivot upward on the side of least tension until the web tension is equalized across the coaxial rotating sleeve.

  • Patent number: 5810237
Abstract: A drive assembly for operatively rotating a web spreading roll of a paper mill or the like utilizes a toothed belt for transferring rotational motion from a motor-operated driving toothed pulley to a freewheeling or otherwise rotatably mounted driven toothed pulley. The driven pulley is, in turn, coupled to at least one of the plural rotary driven roll segments of and that are carried on the curved shaft of the web spreading roll. To minimize wear on the toothed belt, the driving and driven pulleys are fixedly mounted in positions of permanent alignment with one another, as by mounting both the drive motor and the driven pulley on the shaft bearings housing located at one end of the spreading roll shaft. • Patent number: 5377893
Abstract: An ultrasonic tape guide device for use in a video tape recorder, for example, has a tubular tape guide disposed around and supported on a shaft mounted on a base. A substantially flat piezoelectric ultrasonic vibrator for vibrating the tubular tape guide in an axial direction thereof has one surface fixed to the tubular tape guide and an opposite free surface facing away from the tubular gape guide. When the piezoelectric ultrasonic vibrator is energized to vibrate the tubular tape guide, a magnetic tape is guided smoothly around the tubular tape guide with a low coefficient of friction.

Abstract: A device is adapted to reduce as much as possible the effective length of a spring for providing a load on a mobile member, such as a dancer roller for absorbing the slackness in a web of packaging material, with respect to the distance by which it may move. Two pinions with different diameters are affixed to the mobile member, the larger pinion engaging with a mobile rack and the smaller pinion engaging with a fixed rack. The mobile rack is adapted to move so as to cancel the displacement by the mobile member by a distance determined by the ratio of the diameters of the pinions, thereby reducing the effective length of the spring.
