The heating element is arranged between two plate bodies, and the heating element is embedded in the plate bodies by rolling with material displacement. The adjacent sides of the plate bodies have a layer of aluminium or an aluminium alloy. After a heat pre-treatment at the re-crystallisation temperature of the aluminium or the aluminium alloy, the plate bodies are pressed against one another to bring about a reduction in thickness, with which the plate bodies form a diffusion bond with one another and are integrally bonded to one another over the entire surface area thereof to form the metal plate to be produced. The process produces a metal plate as a whole with better thermal conductivity and a broader spectrum of use.

Abstract: An electronic device such as a chip coil including an electric wire firmly connected to electrodes in a highly reliable fashion is constructed to be mounted on a printed circuit board or substrate in a stable and reliable manner. At both ends of a core of the chip coil, there are provided electrodes having a multilayer structure including a high-conductivity layer made of Ag, Ag--Pd, or a similar material; a solder barrier layer made of Ni; and an easy-soldering layer made of Sn or solder. End portions of the electric wire are embedded in the easy-soldering layer so that the resultant electrode structure has a substantially flat surface. A thermo-compression process is performed so that the end portions of the electric wire are connected to the solder barrier layer via solid welding and to the easy-soldering layer via brazing.

Abstract: A method of making an expanded metal sandwich structure includes cleaning at least two metal superplastic core sheets to remove metal oxides and residues that would interfere with diffusion bonding of the sheets. The core sheets are placed face-to-face and a gas pressure line fitting is inserted between one edge and is welded into place. The fitting has a through bore through which gas can flow under pressure into the space between the core sheets. The core sheets are pressed together and laser welded together into a core pack along lines which will form junction lines between the core sheets when the core pack is superplastically expanded. The core pack and the two metal face sheets having superplastic characteristics are each chemically cleaned, and the face sheets are placed over and under the core pack.

The probe is rotated and inserted into or around a butted portion of the joining members to soften a contact portion contacted by the probe by friction heat and to agitate the contact portion so that the joining members are butt joined. Each joining member has a thick portion at a butting side thereof The rotating rotor is contacted to the thick portions under pressure to soften the thick portions by friction heat so that a gap formed at the butted portion is filled with the materials of the softened thick portions.

Abstract: A process for the manufacture of cladded metal pipes facilitates joining of a tube blank and a coaxially disposed pipe section received therein, for subsequent extrusion of a resultant tube blank-pipe combination to form an internally-clad pipe of desired dimension. The pipe section, which is inserted into the tube blank, is expanded radially by internally directed pressure, while force is axially applied to maintain the expansion of the pipe section following removal of the applied internal pressure and axial force. A mechanically joined tube blank-pipe combination thus formed is extruded to form a finished pipe of desired profile in which a diffusion bond is present between material layers comprising the internally-clad pipe corresponding to the pipe section and the tube blank.

Abstract: Solder bonding of first and second contact pad arrays is accomplished by forming contact structures, such as posts with vertical or tapered sides, on the contact pads of the first array and solder bumps on the second array. The respective contact structures should have an average cross-sectional area that is less than the average cross-sectional area of the corresponding solder bumps. The contact structures and solder bumps are then bonded by a bonding process at a temperature and pressure where the solder bumps deform and envelop at least a portion of the respective contact structures. It is possible to employ the contact structures as a compression stop during the bonding process. The temperature should be below the melting points of the contact structures. In this manner, solder bump spreading can be reduced during bonding which correspondingly reduces electrical shorting of adjacent formed interconnect bonds.
