Including Tearing Or Breaking Means For Opening A Nonunitary Closure Or Releasing A Nonunitary Securing Element (i.e., The Closure Or Securing Element Is Not Of One-piece Construction With The Box) Patents (Class 229/123.2)
  • Patent number: 6355286
Abstract: A canister for storing a particulate-type product. The canister comprises opposing face panels, opposing side panels, a bottom closure, a top closure and a seal membrane. The opposing side panels together with the opposing face panels define an upper opening and a lower opening. The bottom closure is connected to the opposing face panels so as to encompass the lower opening. The opposing face panels, the opposing side panels and the bottom closure combine to define an internal storage region. The top closure is connected to the opposing face panels so as to encompass the upper opening. The top closure is configured to provide selective access to the internal storage region. Finally, the seal membrane is connected to the inner surfaces of the opposing face and side panels adjacent to and extending beneath the top closure. The seal membrane forms a substantially air-tight seal at the upper opening to maintain integrity of particulate-type product disposed within the internal storage region.

  • Patent number: 6234386
Abstract: A sealed composite container is provided, the container including a tubular body member comprising at least one paperboard body ply. The container further comprises a liner ply adhered to the inner surface of the tubular body member, the liner ply comprising a barrier layer. At least one end of the body member and liner ply are rolled outwardly to form a rim and expose the liner ply. The rim defines a heat seal surface having a substantially planar portion. A lid is operatively positioned adjacent to the rim and heat sealed thereto, the lid also comprising a barrier layer. At least one of the lid and liner ply further comprise a seal layer comprising a heat sealable composition, the seal layer forming a heat seal between the lid and the liner ply having a substantially planar portion.

  • Patent number: 6196450
Abstract: An easy-open composite container has a membrane-type closure and includes a laminated tubular body member of composite materials having a predetermined laminated strength. The body member includes a bodywall portion and a liner portion positioned inside the bodywall portion and forming an inside surface of the body member. An outwardly-rolled rim portion is formed at the upper area of an open upper end of the tubular body member and the liner portion forms a top surface of the body member open upper end and an outside surface of the outwardly rolled rim portion. A cut extends circumferentially around a segment of the outside surface of the rim portion and extends radially-inwardly through at least a part of the liner portion. A membrane closure covers the open upper end of the body member and has an outwardly extending tab portion positioned over the cut in the rim portion of the body member.

  • Patent number: 6196408
Abstract: A release strip for tubular containers is provided and includes a tab portion. An elongate portion of the release strip is releasably adhered to an outer surface of the tubular body of the container with a first adhesive application. The tab portion extends laterally from the elongate portion and is separately releasably adhered to the tubular body with a second adhesive application to prevent the tab portion from being inadvertently snagged. In one preferred embodiment, the tab portion includes an opening therein having an advantageous shape including an arcuate section having at least a predetermined minimum radius of curvature and a substantially straight section opposite the arcuate section, thus allowing sufficient room for accommodating a consumer's finger while maintaining requisite ring strength.
