  • Patent number: 6354739
Abstract: A tape for use in closing a container having opposing ends includes a base layer and a tearable tape strip. The base layer includes a tear resistant backing having a first side and a second side, and an adhesive coated on at least part of the first side of the backing. The tearable tape strip is located on the first side of the backing and has a first side and a second side. The tearable tape strip permits tearing of itself and the tear resistant backing with a given force notwithstanding that the tear resistant backing is otherwise not cleanly tearable. The tearable tape strip tears through the base layer when the tape is removed from the container. The tape can include a tab at one of the ends of the tape. The tab is formed by nicks extending from at least one of the ends of the tape and is located at least partially through the tearable tape strip which facilitate beginning tears.

Abstract: A label (6) for re-closable packages (1) has an application side (8) on which a layer of self-adhesive glue (20) is spread for application to a surface (7) of a re-closable package (1) to achieve a predetermined adhesive strength. The application side (8) is siliconized in a manner such that the adhesive strength between the side (8) and the layer of self-adhesive glue (20) is less than the predetermined strength. After application, the layer of glue (20) is transferred to the application surface (7), eliminating the risk of tearing of the re-closable package (1).

  • Patent number: 5904290
Abstract: The present invention has a good method of opening envelope and primarily having to provide a better ease of opening method. Its structure is distinctively different from the traditional envelopes or tears open envelopes with characteristics a line of perforation is set on one of the four folding lines of cover flaps. Furthermore, a 2 to 3 mm wide of tenacious tearing wire is adhered to the line of perforation having one end of it consists of an angled tearing line. To open, simply tear from the angled tearing line and lightly pull the tearing wire along the line of perforation towards the opposite end, which allows the tenacious self-adhesive tearing wire to break free from the line of perforation and effectively cutting the envelope open from the line of perforation. It has characteristics that consist of ease of manufacture, ease of use and high reliability of prevent from unintentional opening.

  • Patent number: 5683029
Abstract: A combination sealing and opening strip for various types of packages comprises a three-layer laminate strip having a centrally-located, high strength membrane with pressure-sensitive adhesive on both sides of the membrane. The membrane comprises a material, such as MYLAR.RTM. flexible synthetic film, polyester, other polymeric films, fiberglass, or fibrous or non-fibrous materials of various compositions with a strength greater than that of the package material. This provides for a controlled tearing of the package material. During strip manufacture, the adhesive-coated strip is laminated in precise registration onto a differentially-coated release liner. The combination strip and release liner are applied to the package material in a location such as the flap of a common overnight envelope. When sealing the package, the user peels the release liner from the strip.

  • Patent number: 5213258
Abstract: A reusable, returnable envelope is disclosed, which has a removable front cover sheet and a resealable closure flap. A primary envelope body has a front wall, a back wall, and a sealable closure flap. A tear-away front cover sheet is secured over the face of the front wall and carries a first address. After removal of the cover sheet, the front wall is exposed, which forms an address area and can be provided with a pre-printed return address. The closure flap includes at least two adhesive areas separated by at least one tear strip element and at least one guide strip associated therewith. On the first use of the envelope, the closure flap is opened without destruction by pulling on the tear strip, severing the original flap across its width and forming a new, shorter closure flap.
