  • Patent number: 5682992
Abstract: An accordion pleated media storage unit is provided which is constructed of a continuous elongate web of flexible material, such as a non-woven polyester spun material. A continuous zigzag fold of the elongate web creates multiple overlying planes, each of which has at least one edge which is integral with an adjacent plane. A bond is then formed along each edge of a pair of adjacent planes, extending from a common edge to a point just short of the mid-line of each plane, such that multiple adjacent pockets are formed which, when the unit is extended, are separated by a specified distance and wherein the pocket dimensions are not altered, greatly enhancing insertion and retrieval of a storage media element.

  • Patent number: 5678754
Abstract: An envelope includes a front panel and a rear panel with a closure flap. The front and rear panels are connected by an expandable sidewalls formed by joining end flaps of the front and rear panel. The sidewalls have an intermediate line of weakness that allows bending and expansion. The line of weakness is backed on the inside by an extension from the front panel flap which reduces the likelihood of the sidewall being turned outwardly rather than inwardly into the envelope. A front to rear strip connects the front panel with the back panel so as to form a relatively small pocket and a relatively large pocket within the envelope. A locking tab is preferentially placed above the small pocket and constructed of extensions of the front panel and sidewall to allow a user to selectively use the locking tab to hold objects within the small pocket or release such objects. The envelope is especially suited for transferring finished photographic prints and a container holding negatives for the prints.

  • Patent number: 5607100
Abstract: A direct mail article in the form of a packet comprising a plurality of envelopes separably joined along a parting line at their longitudinal edges, as by perforations, each envelope containing at least one separate enclosure device, one or more of which envelopes and enclosure devices can be personalized, is produced from an integral web or sheet defining all of the envelopes and at least one of the separate enclosure devices. The direct mail packet is formed by folding the envelopes at the parting lines to position the envelopes one above the other. In one preferred embodiment, the direct mail article is formed from two webs, one of which defines all of the envelopes and an associated enclosure device for each envelope, and the second web defines one or more additional enclosure devices for at least one of the plurality of envelopes, the enclosures not being separated until after both have been folded into the envelope, thus ensuring that mismatching of personalized enclosures and envelopes does not occur.

  • Patent number: 5337942
Abstract: A three-panel, one-gusset film processing envelope is manufactured in line from continuous web stock. The front and rear main panels are created from what was the central and one lateral marginal portion of the web, and the pocket-dividing interior panel from what was the other lateral marginal portion of the web. A tear-off claim check initially faces a double thickness nonfolded fold-over flap for closing the pockets. A transverse band of resealable adhesive is exposed through a die-cut window in the flap. Entrance to the adjunct pocket for receiving negatives on the trip back from the processor is passively facilitated by the consumer in the act of folding over the flap for the trip to the processor. The envelope bottom is closed by a transverse glue strip which, by involving all three panels, provides a relatively stiff bottom marginal portion which preferably bears the machine readable unique number for the transaction, thereby facilitating presentation of the envelope for reading by a reading device.

The front panel of the kit is sized to become comparable to that of normal paper sizes and readily adapted to have printed material applied to at least one side thereof by use of standard sized photographic or offset printing equipment. After application of indicia or printed matter to the front panel, the components of the kit are then assembled by securing the front panel to the rear panel. The kit and method in accordance with the present invention permit small quantities of folders to be provided with customized printing on the front panel at relatively low cost.

  • Patent number: 4988038
Abstract: A document file in which a plurality of compartments formed of soft synthetic resin sheet material are connected contiguously in an accordion-like fashion and mounted between a pair of covers includes auxiliary sheets attached along both side edges and a bottom edge to each of the covers. Each of the covers includes a thick paper pad mounted between the two resin sheets. The pads are laterally shorter than the resin sheets and mounted so as to leave spaces at the end portions thereof so that side edges of the cover can be bent inward like a bow such that the auxiliary sheet buckles away from the cover and forms an opening at the top edge portion thereof. In addition, when both side edges of the covers retreat to their original position, the top edge of the auxiliary sheet becomes tightly sealed against the cover so as to prevent contents contained therebetween from coming out of the opening.
