Patent number: 7124964Abstract: A flexible, self-adjusting flow nozzle is provided, optimally configured for agricultural uses. The nozzle flexes automatically in response to changes in fluid pressure, thereby maintaining an optimal droplet size and spray area for a variety of flow rates. The self-adjusting characteristic of the nozzle allows for the creation of a fully or semi-automatic spray system. The fully automatic system uses a GPS receiver to compare actual geographic data against a predetermined flow plan for automatically making adjustments to flow rate in order to accommodate both speed changes and varying crop needs. The semi-automatic system uses a manually controlled flow rate but utilizes the self-adjusting capabilities of the spray nozzle.Type: GrantFiled: September 12, 2003Date of Patent: October 24, 2006Inventor: Quy Duc Bui

Patent number: 5996906Abstract: The present invention is an apparatus and method to reduce unwanted spraying of fluids from hose nozzles. In the preferred embodiment of the invention, a hole filled cover is attached over an open end of the nozzle of the hose. When the hose is in a position where unwanted spray is unlikely to take place the spray stream passes through the cover unaltered. If the nozzle moves to a position where unwanted spray is likely to take place, the cover deflects over the liquid stream causing it to be disbursed or scattered rather than sprayed over a long distance. The invention finds particular application in the prevention of spraying of water from the high pressure cleaning nozzle in swimming pool cleaners onto nearby objects or persons.Type: GrantFiled: January 5, 1998Date of Patent: December 7, 1999Inventor: J. Patent number: 5265802Abstract: A fluid projection screen is formed by projecting a substantially spatially coherent stream of fluid, such as water, and directing it against a deflection plate. The deflection plate causes the stream to be broken up into fluid droplets which form a fan shaped screen extending at an angle to the fluid stream. A projector projects an image upon the screen, and visual acuity from edge to edge of the image is achieved by imparting a bend to the deflection plate which, in turn, imparts a bend to the screen so that the distances from the center and the edges of the screen to the projector are equalized.Type: GrantFiled: October 2, 1992Date of Patent: November 30, 1993Assignee: Wm. Patent number: 5031840Abstract: An adjustable arc sprinkler nozzle comprises a lower nozzle piece which is relatively rigid and an upper nozzle piece which is made of a relatively flexible, compressible material. A plurality of radial channels are provided in the upper nozzle piece for forming radial streams out of water flowing into the lower nozzle piece. A deflector ring having pairs of spaced deflecting fingers can selectively compress the upper nozzle piece by pushing down on it adjacent either side of each channel near the radially outer ends thereof. This pinches off the channel area and simultaneously bends the channels down over the lower nozzle piece to decrease the throw radius while keeping the precipitation rate relatively constant.Type: GrantFiled: September 13, 1989Date of Patent: July 16, 1991Assignee: The Toro CompanyInventors: Michael J. Patent number: 4925101Abstract: A wax spray gun and spray nozzle for discharging an atomized stream of molten wax onto a vehicle body component or other substrate comprises a gun body having an atomizing chamber within which an internal wax spray nozzle and atomizing cap are located. A stream of atomizing air is tangentially directed into the atomizing chamber to form a rotating, swirling stream of atomizing air which is accelerated through a venturi inlet formed in the atomizing cap to impact and thoroughly atomize molten wax discharged from the internal spray nozzle. The atomized stream of molten wax is then discharged from the gun body into an external nozzle which preferably comprises a nozzle body having a wall formed with external threads which carry a coil spring. A flat is formed in the wall of the nozzle body with a discharge opening therein over which at least two spaced spring wires are positioned in the path of atomized molten wax emitted from the discharge opening.Type: GrantFiled: August 26, 1988Date of Patent: May 15, 1990Assignee: Nordson CorporationInventors: Ronald D. Patent number: 4895306Abstract: This invention permits a gardener to establish garden borders and to trim lawn edges simply with use of chemical herbicides thereby eliminating the need for edge trimmers or edge trimming spades. Thus, a hood accessory is provided for attachment to a hand held sprayer to conform spray from its spray head to a desired variable line width, Thus, for example, the sidewalk edge of a lawn need not be mechanically cut, but can be controlled by confining a herbicide flow pattern to a narrow line alongside the sidewalk. Similarly trimming the edges of flower or shrub gardens is feasible without the danger of killing the flowers or shrubs with herbicide. A low-price flexible walled plastic hood is thus fashioned for fitting onto the spray head. An adjustable mechanism then flexes the walls to produce a spray line width of the dimensions desired. All herbicide is thus prevented by the hood from being carried by the spray head or the wind into adjacent grass, shrubbery or flowers.Type: GrantFiled: August 15, 1988Date of Patent: January 23, 1990Inventor: Clarence D.
