  • Patent number: 4912815
Abstract: A clamp assembly for securing the ends of longitudinal tensile load-bearing elements comprises a pair of rings having complementary tapered surfaces. When assembled, one ring seats coaxially inside the other ring and the elements are gripped between the tapered surfaces. The outer, tapered surface of the inner ring is roughened and embedded in the surface of the elements so that load on the elements acts preferentially to draw the inner ring more tightly against the inner, tapered surface of the outer ring. An outer collar engages the outer ring with a flange to retain the assembly. The assembly finds particular application as an armour clamp for a submarine telecommunications cable.

  • Patent number: 4615532
Abstract: A ball stop is locked to a cable by inserting the cable through an opening in the ball. The ball is then rigidly clamped in place by a wedge which is inserted into the aperture surrounding the cable and threads in the aperture and on the external part of the wedge mate and are screwed together to cam the wedge into frictional engagement with the cable.

  • Patent number: 4614007
Abstract: Clamping means for a strap comprises a support member having a concave surface and a guide member having a convex surface. The guide member is pivotally mounted on the support member for angular movement between a first position in which the concave and convex surfaces are spaced apart by a distance greater than the uncompressed thickness of the strap and a second position in which the concave and convex surfaces are spaced apart by a distance less than the uncompressed thickness of the strap. The guide member further comprises a lobe so positioned in relation to the convex surface that the length of the path of the strap extending from a first predetermined location, round the lobe and between the concave and convex surfaces (24, 48), to a second predetermined location decreases as the guide member pivots from its first position to its second position.

  • Patent number: 4598443
Abstract: A device for providing a clamping joint comprises two elements (1,2) with complementary threads, each having a flange constituting a clamping surface. Clamping takes place upon relative axial displacement of the elements (1,2) which can be brought about by screws (4) arranged axially in bores in a flange (5) on one element. In order to prevent accidental disengagement of the elements, at least one of the threads adjoins at one end to a part (6) which is wedged against an opposing thread flank when the elements (1,2) are rotated in relation to each other over a predetermined end position.

  • Patent number: 4592117
Abstract: A drop wire clamp is provided for suspending a coaxial cable drop wire or the like. The clamp is of molded plastic resin material comprising a body having converging clamping surfaces on the interior thereof, and a two part wedge having external tapered surfaces engageable with the body converging clamping surfaces to wedge the two parts of the wedge together. The two parts of the wedge have confronting surfaces defining a channel for gripping a cable. The channel undulates transversely longitudinally thereof, and a pair of smaller adjacent, parallel channels of similar undulating construction are provided on either side of the first-mentioned channel for gripping a messenger wire. An extension of the body is provided with an eyelet for hanging over a hook or the like.

  • Patent number: 4592116
Abstract: A securing device is disclosed for use in conjunction with a rope or like article to secure the positioning thereof. The securing device is coarsely adjustable to establish the maximum permissible spacing between a pair of clamping plates when the device is in an open position. The clamping plates are configured to allow dual sections of rope to be received through the securing device between the plates while the device is in the open position, with the rope being engageable with the plates at a plurality of points when in the closed position. A camming unit is mounted adjacent to the outside surface of one plate, with the camming unit having a cam surface, that acts in conjunction with the adjacent plate, and an actuating lever, the positioning of which establishes the open and closed positions of the lever and device.

  • Patent number: 4572565
Abstract: This invention is directed to a stopper for a wire cable or a wire rope. It comprises to channels, two jaws moveable with respect to each other in the two channels and two wedges for moving the jaws. There are no gears for moving the jaws. With the movement of the wedges partially out of the channels the wedges force the jaws toward each other so as to clamp the wire cable or wire rope.

  • Patent number: 4562784
Abstract: A sailing craft having hydrodynamically shaped catamaran hulls and tapered configuration rudder assemblies attached to each hull. Low draft keels are attached to the fore one-half bottom portions of the hull and a pitch-sensitive variable camber mast and main sail assembly is rotatably mounted on a cross-beam framework which interconnects the two hulls. The mast is constructed and rigged to bow with respect to the longitudinal plane of the sailing craft which passes through the roll axis in response to a high velocity wind force. The bow decreases as the wind velocity decreases and the mast rotates to form a camber adjustment through use of battens attached to the main sail sheet(s). The rudder assembly and control bungy cords and lines permit selective raising and lowering and automatic raising upon contact with underwater obstacles. The deck structure provides for quick dismantling and ease of sailing.
