Plastic Bands Patents (Class 24/17AP)
  • Patent number: 6119314
Abstract: An extremely versatile tie which can; 1) be releasable or non-releasable; 2) tie one bundle or two bundles;, 3) be threaded from either side; 4) have a circular or oval shape; 5) have controlled release; and 6) attach to other ties so two or more ties can be opened in unison. This tie can be made out of one or more pieces. Each releasable tie has a strap, a holder, and a retainer, which can be in a locked or unlocked position. In the locked position, the tie can tighten in discrete increments, but cannot loosen. In the unlocked position, the tie can loosen or release in discrete increments (i.e., controlled release), but cannot tighten. The retainer and holder engage to keep the tie in either a locked or unlocked position. To ensure that the retainer and holder are not accidentally dislodged from the locked or unlocked position, a deliberate movement (perpendicular to the strap) is required by the user.

  • Patent number: 6115888
Abstract: A plastic holding strap is provided for bundling elongate objects and fastening the elongate bundled objects to an associated support member. The holding strap includes a first holding element adapted for connection onto the associated support member. An elongate profiled strap element extends from the first holding element for encircling and fastening a first bundle of associated elongate objects onto the holding element for connection in turn to an associated support member. In order to provide additional holding capability and to enable a wider range of application of the plastic holding strap, a second holding element is provided for selective intermatable attachment onto the first holding element. The second holding element defines at least one receiving area for selective connection to one or more associated articles in addition to the items fastened to the first holding element.

  • Patent number: 6105210
Abstract: A tie for use in pairing together two objects. The tie comprises a head having an elongated channel extending therethrough, a locking tang within the head, and a strap having a length of approximately 63.3 cm. The strap comprises a first end integrally formed onto the head and a second end. A projection is formed on the strap between the first end and the second end. The portion of the strap from the projection to the first end is in the form of an elongated, flexible filament having a length of approximately 59.5 cm. The elongated filament is narrow in thickness, narrow in width and has a generally uniform, rectangularly-shaped cross-section. In one embodiment, the portion of the strap from the projection to the second end is formed in a ladder structure having a plurality of rungs. The rungs of the strap are sequentially engaged by the locking tang when the strap is inserted into and through the elongated channel to form a closed loop.

  • Patent number: 6076234
Abstract: A cable tie includes an elongate generally planar strap and a head. The head includes a tapering entrance into a passageway therethrough for inserting the strap and a flexibly hinged locking pawl adjacent the passageway. The head also includes a fixed locking tooth adjacent the entry end of the passageway for engaging the strap after full securing an article or articles to be bundled. The fixed locking tooth of the present invention is desirably positioned to allow unobstructed insertion of the tail through the head. The present invention is able to minimize the stretching of the strap body when adjacent to the locking pawl by providing an edge which frictionally engages the strap body as the strap body egresses from the passageway of the head. Furthermore, the present invention may include a pair of counter-rotatable locking elements positioned to one side of the passageway through the head.

Abstract: A cable binder includes a cable binder head (1) and a cable binder band (3) extending therefrom. The cable binder head includes first and second planar contact surfaces (11, 18) that intersect each other at a contact angle (.alpha.) in the range from 145.degree. to 160.degree., and are adapted to establish a substantially uniform and continuous contact of the cable binder head (1) with the substantially circular outer contour of a cable or other elongate component (6) that is to be secured. The cable binder head has an opening (2) extending at an incline therethrough and adjoining an edge of the contact surface (11). This arrangement ensures the maximum contact of the binder band (3) and contact surfaces (11, 18) of the head (1) with the outer contour of the component (6) being secured, and minimizes or eliminates the formation of a triangular open gap (4) between the binder head and the component (6).

  • Patent number: 5810854
Abstract: A method and apparatus for attaching connective tissue to each other or to underlying bone is described. The invention includes a band with latching grooves to engage a detached clamping head. At one end of the band is an opening through which the other end of the band may pass to allow the band to form a loop. The end of the band is then inserted into the detached clamping head which has a ratcheting pawl which engages the grooves in the band to hold the band and prevent its slipping. The band may also have a bulb element at or near the end of the band with the opening. There may also be a number of disk or bulb elements to distribute the force on the tissue. The band may also have varying width to provide different force on the tissues. The band and clamping head may be manufactured of biocompatable polymers such as implantation grade nylon, polyethylene or biosoluble material. A method for use of the present invention to repair a torn rotator cuff is also described.

Abstract: A plastic handle about two inches long has a longitudinal slot sized to receive a rubber band. After the rubber band is inserted into the slot, a locking pin is inserted into the first end of the rubber-band loop which has been inserted in the slot. The rubber band is then pulled back through the slot, thereby locking the plastic handle, rubber band, and locking pin into a bundle tie assembly. The second end of the rubber band is wrapped around an extension cord, rope, or the like and snapped around the plastic handle of the first end of the rubber band. • Patent number: 5685048
Abstract: A tie for use in pairing together two objects. The tie comprises a head having an elongated channel extending therethrough, a locking tang within the head, and a strap extending from the head. The strap is approximately 30 cm in length and is formed in a ladder structure having a plurality of rungs. The rungs of the strap are sequentially engaged by the locking tang when the strap is inserted into and through the elongated channel to form a closed loop. As the strap is further inserted through the elongated channel, the size of the closed loop is decreased. The tie further includes a projection formed on a rung of the strap and located approximately 26 cm from the head. The projection protrudes upward from the rung approximately 1 mm and serves as a stop to limit the minimum size of the closed loop which can be formed when the strap is inserted into the head.
