  • Publication number: 20120097607
Abstract: Waste water conditioning has nearly 150 years of history. During this time, a method has developed that is considered to be state of the art. While this method meets the requirements at hand, it is complicated and expensive. The novel method breaks down the rigidly entrenched method and simplifies it. In a plurality of stages, the only energy that is used is gravity, which is readily available and free of cost. Thus, an “alternative sewage treatment plant” has been developed, which has a simpler method and is less expensive in terms of investment costs and operating costs, at the same capacity, and requires only a fraction of the previous required surface area. The most important characteristic of the invention is that the novel method separates solids from waste water immediately after entering the sewage treatment plant. Mechanically purified water is much faster, easier and less expensive to purify. The paths pursued for conditioning of the sludge are also new.

Abstract: A hammermill, such as an imp mill 10, for pulverizing material includes a housing 16 defining a grinding chamber 14 having a grinding apparatus 12 disposed therein. The material is fed into the grinding chamber to the grinding apparatus through an inlet conduit 24, and the resulting ground material is directed from the grinding chamber through an outlet conduit 28. The grinding apparatus includes a plurality of hammer disks 32 axially spaced along a rotor 34, wherein disks 32 are disposed within the grinding chamber 14. A plurality of rows 41-46 of hammers 30 is attached to the hammer disks 32. The hammers 30 of each respective row of hammers are circumferentially spaced around the hammer disks 32, wherein each row of hammers is formed to provide generally uniform wear across each row of hammers. The uniform wear may be achieved by forming the hammers 30 of different hardness or wear resistant qualities, and/or configuring the rows of hammers with different shapes.

Abstract: An improved free swinging hammer mill hammer design is disclosed and described for comminution of materials such as grain and refuse. The hammer design of the present art is adaptable to most hammer mill or grinders having free swinging systems. The improved hammermill hammer may incorporate multiple comminution edges for increased comminution efficiencies. The design as disclosed and claimed may be forged to increase the strength of the hammer. A rod hole shoulder surrounding a portion of the rod hole adjacent the neck may be reduced in the radial dimension. The shape of the hammer body may be varied, as disclosed and claimed, to further improve hammer strength, or reduce or maintain the weight of the hammer while increasing the amount of force delivered to the material to be comminuted.
