Abstract: A method for converting spherical or amorphous metal particles into lamellar flakes that promote improved adhesive and cohesive characteristics when incorporated into coating compositions. The metal flakes produced exhibit properties compatible with binder chemistries such as isocyanates, titanates, titanate hybrids and are suitable for use in conjunction with advanced top coating techniques, such as electrodeposition. The particles produced by the method may be used in coatings and may exhibit improved substrate adhesion and improved cohesion characteristics when used in conjunction with an electrodeposition top coat.

Abstract: The present invention provides carboxymethylcellulose or a salt thereof that can prevent defects such as streaks and pinholes from occurring in the obtained electrode when it is used as a binder for an electrode of a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery. The present invention provides carboxymethylcellulose or a salt thereof of which ratio of a dry mass A to a dry mass B is less than 50 ppm when 2 liters of a 0.3 mass % aqueous solution of the dry mass B of the carboxymethylcellulose or a salt thereof is prepared, the entire amount of the aqueous solution is filtrated through a 250-mesh filter under a reduced pressure of ?200 mmHg, and the dry mass A of a residue on the filter is measured after filtration. The applications of the carboxymethylcellulose or a salt thereof are also provided.

  • Publication number: 20110226878
Abstract: A system and method are disclosed for the grinding of industrial minerals to fine powders. The system includes a grinding chamber having a generally vertically oriented agitator that is rotated to stir the grinding media intermixed with a feedstock. As the agitator stirs the grinding media and feedstock, there is a retaining plate that is also located within the grinding chamber and positioned atop of the grinding media to prevent the expansion of the grinding media when it is being stirred. The retaining plate has one or more openings to allow the finely ground feedstock to pass upwardly therethrough but to prevent any grinding media from passing through the retaining plate. Introduction of the feedstock may be through one or more hollow support rods that locate the retaining plate in the desired location within the grinding chamber. The support rods are locked into position when the retaining plate is properly located.

Abstract: Agglomerated fine solids, e.g., agglomerated pellets (2B), that are located within a restricted space or pinch point of a conveyance system (1), and that impede the free-flow of fine solids from one vessel (4) to another vessel (10), are detected and fragmented through the coordinated use of a flow detector (12), breaker plate (8) and press (6). The flow detector (12) senses an interruption or diminishment in the flow of the fine solids and signals and actuates the press (6) which in turn engages and fragments the agglomeration. The breaker plate (8) is sized and configured to trap major agglomerates.
