  • Patent number: 6179231
Abstract: A cylindrical chamber has a drive shaft rotatably mounted therein and extending along substantially the entire longitudinal extent thereof. This drive shaft is rotatably driven by a motor at a speed of 1,500-10,000 rpm. Solid particles to be comminuted which may be of coal, limestone/dolomite, cement or lime are fed into the chamber. Pressurized air is fed into the bottom of the chamber. Uplifting pressure for driving the gas and particles upwardly in the chamber may be provided by pressurized gas fed in through a tangential inlet in conjunction with a stationary velocity head. The upwardly driven particles are first driven through a plurality of short arm rotors which are driven by the shaft and provide a centrifugal force which comminutes the particles. The particles are then driven through a plurality of semi-permeable screens which are rotatably driven by the shaft and further comminute the particles. High apex flow enhancers are installed along the walls of the chamber to enhance the fluid flow.

Abstract: An infeed conveyor feeds seed cotton modules successively to a feeder head having disperser drums which reduce the modules to clumps of cotton. Incorporated into the conveyor are fluted rollers and beater rollers which cooperate to agitate the bottom portion of the modules and work the fibers on the bottom of each module so as to stretch and relax these fibers, thereby causing the sand, dirt, mud, trash and other debris accumulated along the bottom of the modules to be released. A conveyor feeds this debris to a hopper. Further, after the cotton modules have been dispersed into clumps of cotton by disperser drums in a feeder head and the clumps deposited in a clump chamber, a trough having a sieve means receives the clumps of cotton. In the trough, a conveyor disposed in the trough urges the clumps of cotton in a lateral direction toward an air separator box adjacent the feeder head.

  • Patent number: RE36486
Abstract: The comminution of solid materials, such as stumps and wood waste, into particulate form is accomplished by introducing the material to be comminuted into a tub. The tub is rotated to induce a circular motion to the material. Simultaneously, a disk positioned at the bottom of the tub is rotated, preferably in the opposite direction to the tub, in a plane parallel to the tub bottom. The disk has teeth thereon that impact the material in the tub. A screening means at the bottom of the tub is sized to keep the material in the tub until it reaches a desired particle size, at which time the particles can leave the tub through the screening means and enter a collection chamber. The particles are removed from the collection chamber by being entrained in an airstream that passes adjacent an opening in the collection chamber. Preferably, the teeth in the disk are individually replaceable and are symmetric so that once one side is worn the tooth can be reversed in its mount and used again.
