  • Publication number: 20080251620
Abstract: An apparatus for winding a fiber strand onto a bobbin having a longitudinal axis has a support holding the bobbin for rotation about the axis, a supply for feeding the fiber strand in a travel direction generally radially or tangentially to the bobbin, and a drive for rotating the bobbin about the longitudinal axis and for, when a fiber strand is engaged with the bobbin, winding the fiber strand onto the bobbin. A handling device is rotatable about the axis adjacent the bobbin and carries a strand layer for at a start of a winding operation moving into a predetermined angular position and pressing a leading end of the fiber strand against the bobbin. The handler also carries a cutter on the handling device for at an end of a winding operation cutting the fiber strand and thereby forming a trailing end attached to the bobbin and a new leading end.

  • Publication number: 20080011892
Abstract: Thread-guide device with modulated traversing with an individual thread-guide with a back-and-forth movement fixed to a cord open at the two ends and moved between two pulleys in an alternating clockwise/anticlockwise movement, each activated with its own electric motor, both motors being piloted in frequency. The pulleys are connected to springs which pull the thread-guide towards the centre of its run and which alternatingly accumulate and release energy with every run of the thread-guide.

  • Patent number: 7124980
Abstract: The wire spool guide assembly is a conduit through which wire is dispensed in a controlled and orderly manner. The assembly has at least one wire spool guide, a handle bar and a spindle. The spindle may be a single spindle or part of a wire spool cart. The spindle is used to hold wire spools and the handle bar. The handle bar serves to hold the guide. The guide includes an eyebolt rotatably mounted to a support frame via a ball bearing. The eyebolt guides wire as it is dispensed from the spool acquiescing to the direction of the user's pull. Friction, created as wire is pulled through the eyebolt, slows the speed at which the spool rotates on the spindle. The frame of the guide, however, is fixed on the handle bar by a fastener disposed at a bottom end of the guide.

  • Patent number: 5165623
Abstract: A fishing reel spool is defined along a central axis, with the spool defined as a cylindrical tubular member formed with parallel flanges at each end of the spool. The spool includes a spool wall, with an elongate slot directed therethrough. The slot arranged generally parallel to the axis. The slot includes a cylindrical entrance in communication with a diametrically aligned elongate longitudinal slot, wherein the cylindrical entrance receives a knot of a fishing line and the knot is directed interiorly of the cylindrical spool for securement of the fishing line permitting ease of mounting of the fishing line to the spool in a winding procedure.

  • Patent number: 5058969
Abstract: An optical fiber dispensing system (30) includes a canister (42) within which an optical fiber (12) is wound, and a helix dampener (40) that reduces the helical diameter of the optical fiber (12) as it is paid out from the canister (42) along a payout axis (20). The canister (42) is either a cylinder or a slightly tapered cone. The helix dampener (40) is a structure overlying the payout end of the canister (42) and extending beyond the canister (42) along the payout axis (20). The interior surface of the helix dampener (40) defines a locus (36) of points whose distance from the payout axis (20) decreases with increasing distance from the canister (42), to an opening (38) through which the optical fiber (12) is dispensed.

  • Patent number: 5029959
Abstract: A fiber optic canister (14) is tested by drawing an optical fiber (12) from a generally cylincrical bobbin (16) upon which is is wound, in a direction parallel to the longitudinal axis (18) of the bobbin (16). The optical fiber (12) is directed toward the drawing location (30) of the payout drive (20), and transverse vibrations in the optical fiber (12) are damped, by a guide (40) formed as a series of spaced-apart guide rings (42) having their centers aligned along a common axis (50) that is preferably coincident with the axis (18) of the bobbin (16). The guide rings (42) have central apertures (44) that decrease in diameter from the guide rings (42) nearest the canister (14) toward the payout drive (20), defining a converging locus (36) for the optical fiber (12) as it travels from the bobbin (16) to the payout drive (20).

  • Patent number: 4720986
Abstract: Cap members are placed at the lower end of the perforated bottom spool sleeve and at the top end of the perforated top spool sleeve of a series of package-containing spools mounted at a perforated tube or sword. The cap members prevent, during treatment of the package-containing spools with a suitable treatment fluid or agent like, for example, a dyeing or bleaching fluid, the escape of such treatment fluid at each of the connecting locations between the perforated sleeve of the bottom spool and a base plate as well as between the perforated sleeve of the top spool and a chuck-type or clamping closure member. The end portions of the perforated sleeves are constructed such that no treatment fluid can escape at the connecting locations between the perforated sleeves of adjacent spools in the series of package-containing spools mounted at the associated perforated tube.

  • Patent number: 4387863
Abstract: A spool for receiving windings of elongated material, such as connectorized lightguide cable, is made of compressive and resilient material and has a flange on each end of a hub portion. Each flange has inner and outer rims of differing diameter and a clearance therebetween for forming a channel to hold a connector that terminates an end of the cable. The channel communicates with the surface of the hub via a flared groove for passing the cable ends from hub to channel. The spool is assembled by intermeshing two identical segments.

  • Patent number: 4273486
Abstract: Low-height reversible ratchet tie-down winch for flat decked vehicles. The tie-down winches are adjustably mounted in retainer channels extending along each side of the deck of the vehicle. Each winch is rotatably mounted between the top and bottom walls of its base and tension of the tie-down chain is maintained by a pawl and ratchet. The winch block has a chain pocket to lock a horizontal link of the chain to the chain pocket and a recessed portion engaging a next adjacent vertical link of the chain. The ratchet has a cooperating pocket engageable with a next adjacent vertical link of the chain and completing the chain pocket in the winch block. The chain may be trained through one end or the other of the base for the winch.
