    Abstract: A sheet rolling device includes a mandrel that selectively retains the sheet stock between a sidewall of the mandrel and a gripper blade of the mandrel. The sheet rolling device also includes a sensor that detects a presence and an absence of the sheet stock near the mandrel, a controller operably associated with the mandrel so as to cause a motor to rotate the mandrel to wind the sheet stock around the mandrel, and an expansion leaf operably associated with the controller and situated along at least a portion of an exterior of the sidewall of the mandrel. Extension of the expansion leaf away from the sidewall increases an effective perimeter of the mandrel about which the sheet stock may be wound and retraction of the expansion leaf toward the sidewall decreases the effective perimeter of the mandrel about which the sheet stock may be wound.

    Abstract: A method, a mandrel and a device for removing coreless rolls of a plastic film. The mandrel comprises a tubular body having a plurality of radial holes, conformed with a chamber for distributing pressurized air, in which a piston suitable for being magnetically coupled with an external drive member slides. When a roll must be removed, pressurized air is supplied to the fore end of the mandrel, and escapes from all the holes to expand the internal turns of the roll which can be taken off without friction. As the roll advances along the mandrel, the magnetically driven piston progressively reduces the volume of the air chamber preventing at the same time the air to escape from the holes that progressively come to lie on the rear side of the mandrel, with consequent saving of compressed air.

One or a plurality of coreless rolls (B1, B2) of stretchable plastic film are wound up on the mandrel (10) at said perforated zones (16, 17) and air chambers (14, 15); the roll or rolls (B1, B2) are removed by pushing said roll or rolls along the mandrel (10), by supplying pressurized air initially into all air chambers (14, 15) during a first removal step of the roll or the rolls (B1, B2) and selectively disconnecting each chamber (14, 15) from the pressurized air source, starting from the rear air chamber (15) to the fore air chamber (14) at overcoming of each air chamber (14, 15) by said roll or rolls (B1, B2).

    Abstract: Cores can be engaged and disengaged with a plurality of annular devices fitted over a mandrel. The mandrel has fluid passage communicating with a spaced plurality of radially disposed channels. Pistons in the channels can, in response to fluid pressure, extend outwardly in order to bear on the annular devices. Changes in the volume of fluid inside the fluid passage and the channels are substantially equal to the total displacement of the pistons. Each annular device has an inner ring with at least one camming track rotatably mounted inside an outer ring. The inner ring has an inside portion including a material different from material of said outer ring. The outer ring is fitted inside the core and the inner ring is fitted over the mandrel. A gripping member is fitted in an aperture of the outer ring to move along the camming track.
