Including Additional Energy Absorbing Means, E.g., Fluid Or Friction Damping, Etc. Patents (Class 248/562)
  • Patent number: 4856764
Abstract: A fluid-filled resilient bushing including a resilient member interposed between inner and outer sleeves, and an elastically yieldable partition member. The resilient member and the partition member cooperate with the outer sleeve to define a pressure-receiving chamber and an equilibrium chamber, which are disposed opposite to each other in a first direction in which the bushing receives a vibrational load. The chambers communicate with each other through an orifice. The bushing includes a damping device which has a first portion disposed within the pressure-receiving chamber, so as to extend from a bottom of the chamber. The first portion has a radial end face whose periphery is spaced apart from the periphery of the pressure-receiving chamber, such that an annular spacing is formed between the peripheries of the first portion and the chamber.

Abstract: Fixing means (4, 5) extend axially throughout this support which has a generally annular shape. It comprises an annular elastically yieldable body (1) connected to two frames (2, 3), a flexible elastically yieldable wall (8) fixed between the two frames (2, 3) and defining with the outer surface of the body (1) a working chamber (A). This chamber communicates with an expansion chamber (B) through a duct (16). The support also includes means for limiting its axial and radial movements. Such a support has a particularly low specific stiffness both in the axial and transverse direction, which improves the filtering of high frequency vibrations, while affording a good damping of low frequency and large amplitude trepidations. It is moreover easy to manufacture and therefore of relatively low cost.

  • Patent number: 4854560
Abstract: A hydraulic mount has a pair of mounting members, an elastomeric body that connects the mounting members, an elastomeric diaphragm that is connected to one of the members and cooperates with the body to define a closed cavity, and a partition that divides the cavity into a chamber enclosed on one side by the partition and the elastomeric body and another chamber that is enclosed on one side by the partition and the diaphragm. A liquid fills the chambers and a damping orifice connects the chamber to provide damping by throttling liquid flow therethrough. The partition comprises a rigid singular imperforate body that is mounted at a cylindrical surface thereof for unrestrained reciprocal movement within prescribed limits in an interior cylindrical wall of one of the mounting members thereby to effect limited cyclic volume change in the chambers so that the liquid is not then forced through the damping orifice.

The magnetic actuators support the forward body relative to the mounting member by magnetically supporting the armatures between paired stator cores in each stator. The magnetic actuators are controlled, preferably through local flux feedback loops, to permit the stators to vibrate relative to the armature without transmitting forces to the armatures, thus isolating the vibration of the aft body and mounting member from the forward body. The linear actuators extend and contract to reposition the forward body and mounting member relative to the aft body.

The liquid chamber is partitioned into small liquid chambers by a resilient membrane, the chambers being communicated with each other through an orifice. Vibrations are transmitted to the small liquid chambers through a transmission shaft which extends through the resilient membrane and which is slidable relative to the membrane. Accordingly, even when the direction in which vibrations act changes, vibrations applied to one small liquid chamber are reliably transmitted to the other small liquid chamber. Thus, contraction of one small liquid chamber causes the other small liquid chamber to expand, and a liquid is forced to pass through the orifice while generating fluid resistance whereby the vibrations are absorbed.

  • Patent number: 4790520
Abstract: A vibration insulating device to be installed between two members of a vibration system of an automotive vehicle. The device consists of an annular elastic member disposed between coaxial inner and outer cylindrical members and located coaxial with the outer cylindrical member. The elastic member is formed at its outer peripheral surface with a deep annular groove coaxial with the outer cylindrical member which groove is covered with the outer cylindrical member to define an annular hollow chamber. A generally cylindrical flexible diaphragm member is secured between the outer cylindrical member and the elastic member in such a manner that its central annular section divides the hollow chamber into a radially outward gas chamber and a radially inward liquid chamber, thereby effectively absorbing even high frequency small amplitude vibration transmitted to the device under deformation of the flexible diaphragm member.

  • Patent number: 4789142
Abstract: A hydraulic mount assembly is disclosed having a partition including a damping decoupler between two hydraulic chambers. One chamber is formed by an elastomeric member and the other by a resilient diaphragm. During dynamic loading of the mount, fluid passes between the two chambers of the mount by moving around an orifice track and/or by bypass around the decoupler causing expansion and contraction of the diaphragm. A magnetic coil is provided adjacent the diaphragm in alignment with the decoupler to supply a controlling magnetic field. The decoupler is made of a magnetic material and is positionally responsive to the variations in the intensity and direction of the controlling magnetic field. By actively controlling the decoupler position in this manner, the dynamic characteristics of the mount are varied. A control circuit with on-board transducers is provided to monitor vehicle operating and road response conditions and modulate the voltage to the magnetic coil for maximum damping effect.

Abstract: Hydraulically damping motor bearing, elastic bearing, etc., with at least two chambers containing damping fluid and located axially one behind the other, at least one of which exhibits a wall designed as an elastic spring element, whereby the chambers are separated from one another by a partition and are connected with one another by means of a passage. To achieve a passage which is of simple design and easy to construct, the wall of the passage is formed partly by an elastic portion and partly by a rigid portion of the partition, and both the rigid portion and the elastic portion have a discharge opening emptying into a chamber.

  • Patent number: 4789143
Abstract: A hydraulic mount assembly includes a pair of mounting members connected to each other through a hollow elastomeric body of natural or synthetic rubber. The body is closed by a resiliant diaphragm so as to form a cavity for damping liquid. A partition or plate is provided to divide the fluid filled cavity into two distinct chambers. A primary chamber is formed between the partition and the interior wall of the hollow body. A secondary chamber is formed between the partition and the interior wall of the diaphragm. A decoupler is mounted for reciprocal movement in the partition in response to low level alternating pressures in the chambers. At certain small vibratory amplitudes and high frequencies the decoupler eliminates undesirable hydraulic damping. The partition also includes at least two passages connecting the two chambers.
