Each is provided with a fastening element and each are braced against each other by at least one elastic spring element of an elastomeric material and at least one damping device. The support includes a supporting body made of a tough material, which extends essentially transverse to the direction of the introduced vibrations. The thrust bearing includes a drum-shaped housing which essentially encloses the supporting body on all sides. The supporting body is adjoined by at least one ring-shaped damping element made of an elastomeric material which, under static preloading of the bearing, abuts on the front-side inner surfaces of the housing in a substantially stress-free manner. In the cylindrical recess of the damping element at least one elastic spring element is arranged axially on both sides of the supporting body.

Abstract: A seismic bridge for bridging and providing pedestrian access across a seismic joint between two building parts has a first end unit with a floor pivotally connected to one of the building parts and a second end unit with a floor pivotally connected to the other building part. A corridor sleeve unit, also having a floor, is slidably connected to each of the first and second end units. During relative motion between the two building parts, such as during an earthquake, the bridge can accommodate relative motion between the building parts within a predefined range, while still maintaining the structural integrity of the bridge. The bridge also includes centering means for centering and properly positioning the corridor sleeve unit with respect to the first and second end units. The centering means uses springs in combination with a plurality of frames which are slidably connected to each other to maintain the appropriate distance between the end units and the corridor sleeve unit.

  • Patent number: 5263691
Abstract: A helicopter load vibration damper having an outer cylinder with closed upper and lower ends. A piston is slidably mounted within the cylinder to define a chamber between the piston and the cylinder's lower end. The chamber is pressurized with an inert gas such as nitrogen, with the gas pressure being adjustable to suit the load which is to be transported. A rod is fixed to one side of the piston, extends through the chamber and protrudes through the lower end of the cylinder for attachment to the load. A hydraulic shock absorber is connected between the opposite side of the piston and the upper end of the cylinder. An anti-rotation mechanism prevents the shock absorber from rotating relative to the rod, around the vibration damper's longitudinal axis. The anti-rotation mechanism incorporates a tube which encircles the shock absorber, within the outer cylinder. A pin used to couple the shock absorber to the piston is also coupled to the tube.

Abstract: The power line support of the present invention comprises a support tower having a lower end supported on the ground and having an upper end. A power line energy absorber is attached to the upper end of the support tower and comprises a housing attached to the support tower, a reciprocating piston within the housing and pneumatic damping chambers within the housing on opposite sides of the piston for yieldably resisting reciprocating movement of the piston within the housing. A cable is connected to the piston and extends over a pulley downwardly to the electrical insulator which connects to the power line where it supports the power line above the ground. Dynamic energy from the power line is transferred upwardly through the cable to the piston and is absorbed by virtue of the compression and expansion of the air within the chambers on opposite sides of the piston.

Abstract: A chair, particularly a work chair, includes a mounting plate for fastening a seat and back member. The mounting plate is supported so as to be pivotable with its front end about a horizontally extending axis on a support member which is, in turn, supported by a vertically extending, essentially vertically adjustable support tube and projects laterally relative to the support tube. The mounting plate is supported on its side facing away from the pivoting axis and near the seat and back member by a gas pressure spring. The gas pressure spring has at one end thereof a valve tarppet for operating a valve which is integrated in the gas pressure spring, so that the effective length of the gas pressure spring is adjustable. The end of the gas pressure spring with the valve tappet is supported on the support member. A two-armed lever which acts on the valve tappet is pivotally mounted on a bearing block of the support member which bearing block supports the gas pressure spring.

Abstract: A cyclic shear energy absorber is described for absorbing energy imposed onto the absorber. The absorber consists of a hollow core filled with densely packed granular material. The granular material is confined within the core so that cyclic shear energy imposed upon the absorber causes incipient dilation of the granular material. This incipient dilation is at least in part suppressed by the confining means. Inter-particle frictional forces within the granular material dissipate the imposed cyclic shear energy. The absorber may be confined between two end plates capable of being coupled to an associated structure such as a bridge support column and a base. The core may also be confined within a pile.
