Patent number: 4338961Abstract: A valve structure is provided which can be opened and closed under operating conditions without any adjustment in conditions existing in the system in which the valve is an element. The valve element can be turned with respect to the seat to provide for proper relation between the valve element and the valve seat to grind one with respect to the other during the operating cycle. The valve also includes a clutch having a radial acting trip overload that prevents the valve seat from being damaged during grinding which is effected by turning the valve through the clutch while moving the valve toward the seat during the closing cycle and produces a controlled grinding operation independent of pressure within the valve. When the valve is operated in the opposite direction, the clutch disengages and the actuator mechanism encounters only the thrust forces during the opening cycle. This allows the valve to be easily opened without overloading the system.Type: GrantFiled: August 7, 1980Date of Patent: July 13, 1982Assignee: Anchor/Darling Valve CompanyInventor: Anatole N. Patent number: 4320777Abstract: An actuator mechanism for lift-turn type valves such as tapered plug valves and cam energized plug and slip assemblies includes an actuator housing structure that is adapted to be connected to a valve body. An actuator element that is adapted for interconnection with the operating stem of a valve element includes a cam energized mechanism which is capable of imparting both linear and rotary movement to the valve stem for sequentially unseating the valve element, rotating it 90.degree. to a selected position and moving it linearly in the opposite direction for reseating. During unseating and reseating linear movement, interengaging guide structure prevents undesired rotation of the actuator element and valve stem. An adjustment mechanism is provided to ensure optimum positioning of the actuator element relative to the valve stem. Energy transfer means is provided to ensure adequate transmission of forces during seating and unseating movement.Type: GrantFiled: June 16, 1980Date of Patent: March 23, 1982Assignee: Daniel Industries, Inc.Inventors: Jerry B. Patent number: 4285499Abstract: A cam actuated valve (10) is disclosed having a butterfly-type valve member (52) rotatably mounted to a crank member (40) extending into a fluid passageway (23) defined by the valve housing. A rectangular bracket (12) attached to one side of the valve housing has parallel edges (66, 68) forming guide surfaces which are slidably received in parallel grooves (62, 64) molded into an actuator member (14). The outer end of the crank member extends through an elongated slot formed in the actuator member thereby defining a cam-cam follower arrangement which transfers the linear movement of the actuator member to rotation of the crank member. The configuration of the cam slot and its position relative to crank member follower end provides a mechanical advantage enabling a relatively low input force exerted on the actuator member to operate the valve.Type: GrantFiled: March 5, 1979Date of Patent: August 25, 1981Assignee: Eaton CorporationInventor: Keith E. Patent number: 4285493Abstract: A fail-safe-open actuator for actuating valves and the like which comprises a pair of opposed cylinders joined to define piston chambers, the axes of which are generally perpendicular to a valve stem. Pistons in the cylinders are connected to the valve stem by toggle links, the pistons being resiliently urged toward the ends of the assembly which corresponds to an open-valve position. To close the valve, a pressurized fluid, such as air, is introduced into the piston chambers and to the pistons at sufficient pressure to counter the resilient means so as to move the pistons away from their rest, valve-open positions, and thus move the valve stem perpendicularly to the axis of the piston chamber. A handwheel is provided to manually close the valve by moving the pistons from their rest positions.A solenoid controlled pneumatic valve may be used to control the supply of pressurized fluid, such as air, to the actuator.Type: GrantFiled: March 1, 1979Date of Patent: August 25, 1981Assignee: Borg-Warner CorporationInventor: Gordon A. Patent number: 4255985Abstract: A three-bale load is accumulated on the trailer as bales issue from the rear of the baler, whereupon the accumulated bales may be dumped all at the same location or singly as may be desired. Successive bales issuing from the baler arrive at a central platform from which they are alternately distributed to laterally disposed side platforms in an automated procedure. Once a side platform receives its bale, lockout mechanism prevents the transfer device from presenting the side platform with another bale until such time as the previous bale has been dumped. Once a bale has been dumped from a platform, the transfer device is automatically actuated, if indeed the next bale is ready to be transferred, for loading of the next bale onto the awaiting side platform.Type: GrantFiled: August 17, 1979Date of Patent: March 17, 1981Assignee: Hesston CorporationInventors: Thomas G. Patent number: 4206900Abstract: An actuator for actuating valves and the like which comprises a pair of opposed cylinders, the axes of which are generally perpendicular to a valve stem. Pistons in the cylinders are connected to the valve stem by toggle links, the pistons being resiliently urged toward the center of the assembly which corresponds to a closed valve position. Patent number: 4149561Abstract: A valve actuator is provided for use in conjunction with a valve having a rotatable member the rotation of which actuates the valve in dependence on the direction of rotation. The valve actuator comprises a housing and a coupling member rotatably carried by the housing and coaxially attached to the valve rotatable member. An elongated threaded shaft is rotatably mounted within the housing so that the axis of the shaft is perpendicular to and spaced from the axis of the coupling member. A nut member threadably engages the threaded shaft and a link is pivotally secured at one end to the nut member and at its other end to a radially extending portion of the coupling member. Patent number: 4073472Abstract: A flow line valve containing an articulated disc, operated by means of a lever actuating mechanism and articulated by the combination of a guide with a rack and pinion gearing system, is disclosed. A valve disc is mounted in a valve body and is operated by rotary motion applied to a crankshaft, through a crank lever and a linking means, which in turn exerts a linear force on the valve disc. The valve disc is initially moved in relation to the seat in a longitudinal direction, directed by a guide means, which is then translated into a pivotation of the disc controlled by a rack and pinion system, such that the valve disc is first longitudinally retracted from the valve seat and then pivoted, clear of the valve seat, 90.degree. to an open position, concurrent with further retraction of the valve seat. Closure is effected by reversing the sequence of articulation.Type: GrantFiled: January 4, 1977Date of Patent: February 14, 1978Assignee: Koppers Company, Inc.Inventor: Henry G. Chasey
