Stop Element On Actuator Patents (Class 251/288)
  • Patent number: 5467967
Abstract: The present invention is a faucet which can be opened to a user settable degree, thus allowing a user to set the water temperature. The faucet knob has an internal cavity which houses a left-hand threaded sleeve. As the faucet knob is turned counter-clockwise, a threaded stop collar, which matingly engages the threaded sleeve, is drawn up within the faucet knob cavity until the collar encounters a setscrew. The setscrew prevents further movement of the stop collar along the threaded sleeve, thus preventing further turning of the knob. The surface, of the stop collar, which contacts the setscrew can be provided with resilient ramps which allow further adjustment of the knob position by an adult user, and raised flats or steps which completely prevent any further turning of the knob once the stop collar reaches the setscrew. More than one setscrew can be provided to accommodate the water temperature preferences of different users.

Abstract: A manually operable pressure relief valve for swimming pool filter systems and the like, including a valve housing, a valve stem movable axially in the housing to open and close the valve, and a top cover that serves as an operating handle. The valve housing and the valve stem have components that cooperate to provide an axial movement from closed to fully open with only a quarter turn of the stem, and to prevent inadvertent removal of the stem from the housing. The stem must be moved deliberately through a sequence of required rotational and axial displacements to remove it. The top cover must also be manipulated in a prescribed manner to effect removal of the stem from the housing.

The regulating valve is secured to the casing by a lock nut and is confined by a control ring to rotate on the teflon washer within a fixed range for controlling the alignment of its two through-holes with the through-holes on the teflon washer and the through-holes on the control chamber so as to regulate water flow rate from the water inlet into the water outlet.

Abstract: A tamper-proof locking mechanism for a rotatable control device, such as a quarter turn valve including a valve member connected to a stem journalled in a body housing the valve member and an operating handle connected to the stem for rotating the valve member between open and closed positions. The locking mechanism includes a pair of lugs on the valve body at circumferentially spaced locations corresponding to the locations of an intermediate portion of the handle when the valve member is in the open and closed positions. A slider member is slidably mounted on the intermediate portion of the handle for reciprocative movement between a locked position and an unlocked position. The slider member includes a latch element having an open portion for receiving the lugs and arranged to restrain both rotational and axial movement of the handle when the handle is in the open or closed position and the slider member is in the locked position.

Abstract: A fluid control valve is disclosed. Preferably, a plastic body member of the cartridge is provided. A valve stem is provided that includes a pair of metal stop elements extending radially outward. A metal stop table is mounted around the stem to limit rotational movement of the valve stem through contact with the stop elements. The legs have radially-projecting extensions which are designed to fit in recesses within the valve housing to prevent rotation of the stop table. Excess rotational forces applied to the valve stem after the cartridge reaches a fully open or closed position are translated through the stop table and directly into the valve housing without stressing the plastic body member.

Abstract: A metering apparatus and system for controlling the administration of IV fluids having a valve housing with a valving chamber therein. A rotatable valve body member is positioned within the valve chamber and a valve passageway of variable cross-sectional area is provided at either the chamber or on the valve member. The effective area and length of the valve passageway interposed between the inlet and outlet to the valve is adjustable to regulate flow by moving the valve body relative to the valve member. Various accessories can be selectively attached to the basic valve configuration including a backplate which facilitates single-handed operation and an optional cover plate which may be secured to the backplate to provide security from patient tempering. In the preferred embodiment the valve housing and internal valve members are fabricated from dissimilar plastic materials of different hardness to improve the sealing therebetween.

  • Patent number: 4918768
Abstract: An air valve for controlling the supply of air to a venturi jet of a spa includes a housing, a cylindrical barrel, means for sealing between the housing and the barrel, and means for rotating the barrel. The housing has an interior chamber extending between an open, cylindrical bore at one end and a pipe coupling at the other end. The housing mounts on the inside wall of the spa, with the open end of the bore facing the inside of the spa and the rest of the housing extending through the side wall and positioned outside the spa. The cylindrical barrel is insertable into and rotatably mounted within the cylindrical bore of the housing. The housing and barrel each include ports that, when overlapping, provide a path for air to flow from a point exterior of the housing, through the overlapping ports, through the interior of the barrel and housing to the pipe coupling. Rotating the barrel to a position where the ports do not overlap blocks the air flow path.

Abstract: A mixing valve (10) has a modular cartridge (60) rotatably mounted in housing (12). The cartridge has a bottom volume control valve plate (58) attached to a lower section (62) housing a pressure balance valve (80). The lower section (62) is secured to an upper section (120) that rotatably receives a temperature control plate (150). The plates (58) and (150) are both rotatable about a common axis (64). The plate (58) is controlled by operation of stem (180) attached to handle (34). The plate (150) is controlled by stem (160) which is operated by knob (38). An insert (250) allows the knob (38) to operate even when hot and cold water supplies are inverted. A splined hot water stop ring (228) sits in handle (34) and adaptably limits rotation of knob (38) for a selected maximum water temperature. Outer seals (58) assure that all water flows through cartridge (60) when the volume is set for partial flow.
