  • Patent number: 8141846
Abstract: An apparatus for a gate valve between chambers includes a valve housing defining a flow path. A male valve portion is rotatable on a fixed axis in the housing. The male valve portion including a first male mating surface positioned at a first angle less than perpendicular to the axis. A female valve portion is fixed in the valve housing for receiving the male portion. The female valve portion including a first female mating surface positioned at a second angle matching the first angle. An o-ring seals the male valve portion to the female valve portion when the male valve portion is rotated into the female valve portion. A polished surface contacts the o-ring when the male valve portion is rotated. When the male valve portion is rotated into the female valve portion the o-ring is compressed thereby sealing the gate valve and closing the flow path.

  • Publication number: 20110275882
Abstract: A ventricular-assist-device valve includes two flaps hinged to a peripheral wall by means of a couple of flexible struts. As each flap opens and closes during each cycle of operation, the struts flex and open passages for flow around them, around the flaps, and between the struts and the flaps, so as to prevent the formation of dead zones that contribute to the accumulation and deterioration of blood cells that produce clotting. The struts are tensioned so as to exert a pressure against the flow of the blood stream when the flaps are open. This tension creates a pressure differential between the underside and the peripheral regions of the flaps that forces blood flow around the hinges and washes out stagnant cells. As a result, clotting is materially reduced.

  • Patent number: 7988129
Abstract: The present invention generally comprises a floating slit valve for interfacing with a chamber. A floating slit valve moves or “floats” relative to another object such as a chamber. The slit valve may be coupled between two chambers. When a chamber coupled with the slit valve is heated, the slit valve may also be heated by conduction. As the slit valve is heated, it may thermally expand. When a vacuum is drawn in a chamber, the slit valve may deform due to vacuum deflection. By disposing a low friction material spacer between the chamber and the slit valve, the slit valve may not rub against the chamber during thermal expansion/contraction and/or vacuum deflection and thus, may not generate undesirable particle contaminants. Additionally, slots drilled through the chamber for coupling the slit valve to the chamber may be sized to accommodate thermal expansion/contraction and vacuum deflection of the slit valve.

  • Publication number: 20110168284
Abstract: A system to reduce standby losses in a hot water heater is presented. The system utilizes a dual safety relay valve between the combination gas controller and the burner. The dual safety relay valve bypasses gas to a rotary damper actuator valve to position a damper flapper valve located over/inside the flue pipe. Once the flapper valve has opened to ensure combustion, the gas is allowed to flow back to the dual safety relay valve. Some of the bypass gas may be diverted to boost the pilot or to supply a booster. The dual safety relay valve is then opened to allow the gas supply to the burner. Once the burner is turned off, bypass gas bleeds out of the rotary damper actuator valve to close the damper flapper valve to reduce standby losses through the flue pipe, and to allow the dual safety relay valve to close tightly.

Abstract: A Pendulum Valve having Independently and Rapidly Controllable Theta- and Z-axis Motion. The valve actuator used in the present invention provides the benefit of wide open unrestricted flow of a pendulum valve coupled with the high-resolution and wide dynamic range flow throttling of a ball or butterfly valve. The actuator mechanism will include motor drives and associated control system so that the drives are closely coupled to give highly controlled motion. The drive assembly introduces a concentric shaft arrangement that, when coupled with the highly controllable motor drives, exploits a cam-follower arrangement to make the relative rotation between the two concentric shafts result in highly controlled theta and z-axis motion. Finally, the plate to seal spacing afforded is greater than previously possible with prior valve actuator mechanisms, thereby substantially reducing flow turbulence through the valve as the valve plate eclipses the valve ports.

  • Patent number: 6932111
Abstract: A gate valve apparatus minimizes the chance that radicals and plasma in exhaust gas will contact a main valve seal, thereby preventing deterioration of the main valve seal. Slats of a flow control device are installed in an exhaust flow path to control the pressure in a process chamber. The main valve seal is provided on an abutting surface of a main valve element. An annular projection is provided on a pump-side inner wall surface of an accommodating chamber. When it is in a non-sealing position, the main valve element is moved toward the pump-side inner wall surface of the accommodating chamber to bring an outer peripheral portion of the main valve element into contact with the annular projection. Thus, the main valve seal is shielded from radicals and plasma in exhaust gas by the main valve element, the annular projection and the pump-side inner wall surface of the accommodating chamber.
