Patent number: 5303778Abstract: In an automatic turn-off sprinkler, water enters an inlet and passes through a hollow interior region to the outlet. A reciprocating spool in the hollow region normally blocks the outlet enabling incoming water to fill a chamber above the spool. The gap between the ID of the bore and the OD of the spool permits sliding movement of the spool while providing a watertight seal preventing liquid entering the small opening communication with a chamber above the top of the spool from passing to the outlet opening. A heat sensor detects an emergency condition, unsealing a normally sealed opening allowing liquid pressing upon the spool to escape through the unsealed opening dropping the pressure on the top of the spool, whereby water pressure upon the bottom of the spool lifts the spool above the outlet. When the heat sensor seals the control opening, liquid pressure upon the top surface builds.Type: GrantFiled: March 16, 1992Date of Patent: April 19, 1994Inventor: Peter Vari

Patent number: 5241988Abstract: The quick opening and closing valve of the present invention has a main chamber. An inlet from a source of liquid and an outlet extends into the chamber adjacent to and at right angles to each other. A ball or other type of plunger chamber moves (a) from a closed position seated on the outlet (b) to an open position spaced from the seat formed where the outlet and chamber meet. When the plunger is on the seat, the plunger blocks fluid flow from the inlet to the outlet, and the valve is closed. When the plunger moves off the seat, the inlet and outlet communicate so that fluid flows directly from the inlet to the outlet. A control port extends into the chamber on the other side of the plunger from the outlet. The control port is alternatively opened or closed by a control gate. When the control gate is in its closed position, the control port is closed. The pressure at the outlet is approximately atmospheric, but some fluid flows to the other side of the plunger which elevates the pressure there.Type: GrantFiled: April 15, 1991Date of Patent: September 7, 1993Inventor: Joel E. Patent number: 5137254Abstract: Flow amplifying poppet valves are useful in hydraulic circuits requiring low leakage when the circuit is in a load holding condition. Pressure compensation of the known flow amplifying poppet valves has not been totally successful and thus, the output flow varies somewhat with changing pressure drops across the poppet valve. The subject pressure compensated flow amplifying poppet valve utilizes a pressure compensating valve and a compensating orifice disposed in a compensating flow path disposed in parallel with a valve device for controllably regulating fluid flow through a flow regulating passage. Fluid flow through the compensating flow path is restricted by the orifice to a flow rate substantially equal to the amount of fluid that can flow through a flow control slot in a valve element at a closed position of the valve element.Type: GrantFiled: September 3, 1991Date of Patent: August 11, 1992Assignee: Caterpillar Inc.Inventors: James A. Patent number: 4429708Abstract: A constant displacement pump and an associated flow control mechanism are disclosed. The flow control mechanism includes a variable orifice, i.e., a pintle and valve seat in the outlet from the pump. The pressure drop across the variable orifice controls the position of a bypass valve. The position of the pintle member relative to the valve seat is controlled by fluid pressure acting on one end of the pintle member. The fluid pressure acting on the one end of the pintle member may be infinitely varied so that the position of the pintle member with respect to the valve seat may be infinitely varied. Fluid pressure acting on the one end of the pintle member is controlled by an electrical solenoid which infinitely positions a pilot member relative to a fluid pressure passage joining the opposite ends of the pintle member.Type: GrantFiled: October 14, 1981Date of Patent: February 7, 1984Assignee: TRW Inc.Inventor: Timothy C. Patent number: 4393890Abstract: A main valve (1) is connected into a pressurized water pipe for an irrigation installation and has a valve body (4) formed as a differential piston and with a through bore (5), said body being operated in both directions by means of the water pressure, the piston (4) in one end position closing the water pipe and in its other end position keeping it open. The piston (4) is guided to said end positions by means of a control valve (7) arranged to open or close a duct (6) starting from the major cylinder bore, thereby to cause the water present to actuate the piston (4). The control valve (7) is in turn controlled by rainfall onto, and evaporation from an upwardly open bowl (8), and a drop means (9) active during irrigation. The bowl (8) is part of a tipping means with two tipped end positions, controlled by the quantity of water in the bowl (8).Type: GrantFiled: June 23, 1980Date of Patent: July 19, 1983Inventor: Einar Skappel

Patent number: 4391183Abstract: The invention relates to a hydraulic blocking valve, a so-called holding valve (10), the shutting-off member of which consists of a movable ball (16) coacting with a seat (17) in an inlet chamber (24). The space (15) on the side of the ball opposite its seat forms an operating chamber (15), and both chambers are joined by a constriction passage (13) counteracting flow of hydraulic liquid between the chambers. The operating chamber (15) is in communication with valve means (32) by the aid of which the pressure in the operating chamber can be heavily reduced, e.g. by being taken to a tank (44), resulting in that the ball (16) is thrust from its seat (17) to open the valve. A throttling means (25, 26) simultaneously comes into action for reducing the flow, i.e. liquid loss through the valve means (32) from the operating chamber (15). When the valve means is subsequently closed, pressure is once again built up against the ball so that the latter is pushed towards its seat (17) for closing the valve (10).Type: GrantFiled: February 14, 1980Date of Patent: July 5, 1983Assignee: Innovation AktiebolagInventors: Stig Broms, Lennart Freese

Patent number: 4366943Abstract: A valve assembly including a first housing member having a flange and a second housing member having a flange. The first housing member is connected to the vacuum milking system. A flexible diaphragm is mounted between the flanges of said first and second housing members. The diaphragm is movable between an unflexed position and a flexed position in response to forces exerted on opposite sides thereof. A control valve is operable to selectively place the second housing member in communication with the atmosphere wherein the diaphragm is forced to assume its unflexed position and to periodically place the second housing member in communication with the vacuum in the vacuum line to thereby force the diaphragm to assume its flexed position. A valve member is mounted on the diaphragm and is operable to place the first housing in communication with the atmosphere when the diaphragm is in its flexed position to thereby admit air into the vacuum line.Type: GrantFiled: October 22, 1979Date of Patent: January 4, 1983Assignee: DEC International, Inc.Inventor: Frank J.
