Patent number: 4687180Abstract: A metering valve having a one-piece bonnet for reducing problems resulting from tolerance stack up. A guide portion is included on the nose of the bonnet for cooperation with a valve body bore to ensure concentric alignment between the metering pin and its associated orifice. A pair of O-rings on the valve stem cooperate with the bonnet bore to absorb forces and substantially reduce the potential for galling and breakage of the metering pin. One of the O-rings is compressed to a substantially greater extent than the other to aid in achieving better alignment between the stem and bonnet, and to obtain a firmer feel.Type: GrantFiled: March 10, 1986Date of Patent: August 18, 1987Assignee: Nupro CompanyInventors: James K. Patent number: 4676435Abstract: A sprayer comprising a housing (10) having an internal aperture in which a spool (12) is mounted for translational movement is disclosed. The spool has a nozzle (32) mounted to it. A cavity (30), formed in the spool, is configured to provide a passageway for directing fluid from an inlet (20) in the housing to the nozzle when the sprayer is in a spraying position. The cavity also provides a fluid passageway from the fluid inlet to a fluid outlet (21), which is also formed in the housing. The latter fluid passageway permits a reverse fluid flow through the nozzle. The direction of the reverse fluid flow is opposite to spraying flow direction. Thus, the reverse fluid flow cleans the nozzle by removing matter that clogs the nozzle. A pneumatically actuated, double-acting piston and cylinder assembly is used to move the spool between the spraying position and the cleaning position.Type: GrantFiled: April 1, 1986Date of Patent: June 30, 1987Inventor: Nickolas B. Patent number: 4660595Abstract: A pressure-limiting valve comprises a cylindrical actuator piston guided displaceably in a bore and held under the pressure of a spring in the closure position of the valve. Longitudinally-directed throughflow passages are formed in the actuator piston on the pressure-loaded end and are arranged concentrically with respect to the central axis and open into an annular groove extending around and in the circumferential surface of the actuator piston. This groove is sealed off by a gasket mounted in the bore wall. When the set pressure predetermined by the closure spring is exceeded, the actuator piston travels with the gasket over the annular groove so that the pressure medium can flow away through the outlet opening.Type: GrantFiled: August 13, 1985Date of Patent: April 28, 1987Assignee: Hermann Hemscheidt Maschinenfabrik GmbH & Co.Inventors: Willi Kuster, Karl Krieger, Werner Reinelt

Patent number: 4659061Abstract: A stem tip seal for a shutoff valve includes a valve member having an axial recess at the outer end that operatively receives a retaining sleeve. The retaining sleeve includes a flange portion engaging a shoulder formed by a circumferential groove in the valve member to effectively limit relative movement between these two components. A tapered surface at one end of the retaining sleeve cooperates with a tapered surface formed on the valve member for confining a seal ring. The seal ring is under compression and biases the retaining sleeve toward a first or outer limit position. Initial contact between the retaining sleeve and valve seat prevents nibbling or chipping of the seal ring during valve closure, and extended contact between the retaining sleeve and valve seat provides support during valve opening to prevent seal blow out.Type: GrantFiled: October 15, 1985Date of Patent: April 21, 1987Assignee: Nupro CompanyInventor: Gary W. Patent number: 4605200Abstract: A faucet valve comprised of a valve body having a valve seat onto which is adapted to movably and freely rest a disc-shaped valve plug. An operant shaft having a central cam surface is journalled within the valve body, being arranged with the cam surface lying adjacent to the valve plug so that rotating or sliding the shaft causes the plug to tip off the valve seat. The plug is held in closed position solely by upstream pressure. A novel check valve is also disclosed for replacement of the standard washer in a faucet and for use with a "speedway" connection according to another embodiment. The faucet valve is adapted to be fixed to the spout of a tap assembly having hot and cold water, in combination with the check valve, the latter preventing backflow between the two faucet conduits in the event of a pressure differential. The faucet valve may be used independently as may the check valves.Type: GrantFiled: April 2, 1984Date of Patent: August 12, 1986Inventor: Robert Huppee

Patent number: 4596274Abstract: A hydraulic control valve whose spool slides within a stator in which gaskets are provided to insure the watertightness of the sliding motion. Due to the placement of various bores, the ports may be crossed by the gaskets without damage because the gaskets are either under balanced pressure upon crossing the ports, or under the prevailing pressure of the port which is being crossed. A watertight hydraulic slide control valve having a stator with distribution ports is positioned along the wall of a longitudinal bore. A grooved slide spool having a plurality of gaskets is positioned to slide inside the bore of the stator. When any one of the plurality of gaskets crosses a distribution port during a switching operation, the pressure acting on the gasket within the bore is less than or equal to the pressure applied to the gasket from the distribution port when the gasket passes across the distribution port.Type: GrantFiled: February 22, 1985Date of Patent: June 24, 1986Inventor: Maurice Tardy

Patent number: 4595374Abstract: A raft inflation valve, which is actuated by pulling a detachable cable connected to one end of a piston, thereby allowing inflation gas to flow from an attached pressure vessel into an inflatable raft includes a valve body having an inlet, an outlet, an internal cylinder open at one end to the valve outlet, and an inlet passage leading from the valve inlet to and intersecting with the midsection of the internal cylinder. A double-ended piston with O-ring seals on both ends is positioned in the internal cylinder so that one end blocks the passage to the outlet. In this position (valve closed) the O-ring seals are on opposite sides of the intersection of the inlet passage which results in a balancing of the gas pressure forces acting on the piston, thereby allowing the piston to be moved (for actuation) by simply overcoming the O-ring drag on the internal cylinder wall. This results in a low actuation force that is only remotely related to the operating pressure of the inflation system.Type: GrantFiled: April 13, 1983Date of Patent: June 17, 1986Inventor: Lloyd G. Wass

Patent number: 4562856Abstract: A valve assembly has an outer body with an internal passageway for gas containing a valve seat and a valve member which can be lifted from the valve seat by rearward pressure. An inner body is threaded in the passageway, and itself includes an internal passage and a plunger within the passage. The plunger has a forward hollow sleeve portion and two arms extending rearwardly at diametrally opposite positions, the arms being linked at their rearward ends by a bridge from which extends an activating member adapted to hold the valve member away from the valve seat. The plunger has a sealing member forwardly of the activating member for closing the internal passage when the plunger is in a forward position. The inner body has two opposed grooves to receiving the arms, thus interlocking the plunger and the inner body so that rotation of the one requires rotation of the other. The bridge portion can be engaged by a forked tool for rotating it.Type: GrantFiled: October 1, 1984Date of Patent: January 7, 1986Assignee: Union Carbide Canada LimitedInventors: Paul W.
