  • Patent number: 8501486
Abstract: Protein phosphorylation is a major post-translational modification and it plays a pivotal role in numerous cellular functions. We present a composition that includes a soluble nanopolymer core functionalized with groups having an affinity for either metal ion or metal oxides which can be used for phosphopeptide enrichment. Exemplary compounds including PolyMAC-Zr, PolyMAC-Fe and PolyMAC-Ti demonstrate outstanding reproducibility, exceptional sensitivity, fast chelation time, and high phosphopeptide recovery from standard mixtures that include phosphorylated peptides. The composition can be used for phosphoproteome isolation from samples of medicinal, diagnostic or biological interest such as malignant breast cancer cells. Such compositions were used for the quantitative analysis of the changes in the tyrosine phosphoproteome in highly invasive breast cancer cells after induction of Syk kinase, a potent suppressor of tumor growth and metastasis.

The use of magnesium carbonate as an electrolyte prevents the formation of slurries. By providing anhydrous glucose as an osmotic agent, and by optionally spatially separating this osmotic agent from other components, the occurrence of caking of the concentrate is additionally avoided. The occurrence of caking is further reduced by providing the buffer component sodium bicarbonate together with sodium chloride separate from all other components. The concentrate of the present invention is particularly suitable for use in multi-chamber container bag systems. The concentrate of the present invention exhibits good dissolution behaviour and improved storage stability.

  • Publication number: 20130122297
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a way to produce a series of discrete sized slender, rigid oligoparaxylene molecules ranging from 1-5 nm in length. Molecules, based on 1-7, 9-11 paraxylene rings, have been synthesized as part of a homologous series of oligoparaxylenes (OPXs) with a view to providing a molecular tool box for the construction of nano architectures—such as spheres, cages, capsules, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), metal-organic polyhedrons (MOPs) and covalent-organic frameworks (COFs), to name but a few—of well-defined sizes and shapes. Twisting between the planes of contiguous paraxylene rings is generated by the steric hindrance associated with the methyl groups and leads to the existence of soluble molecular gauge blocks without the need—at least in the case of the lower homologues—to introduce long aliphatic side chains onto the phenylene rings in the molecules.

Abstract: The present invention provides a method for preparing modified micronized particles, comprising the steps of carrying out co-precipitation in an aqueous solution at a temperature between the freezing point and the boiling point of the reaction mother liquid to produce a mixed precipitate of micronized particles or precursors thereof and an inorganic precipitate. The method effectively solves the conflict between micronization and surface modification of particles, and resolves the problem that it is difficult to separate micronized particles from the reaction mother liquid.
