Abstract: The present invention relates to the field of railing and fencing systems. More particularly, embodiments of the present invention relate to modular railing/fencing systems comprising extruded aluminum railings with cellular polyvinyl chloride (PVC) panel inserts having an impact resistance of up to about 350 lb/ft2, which combined provide a system capable of withstanding significant external forces. Particular embodiments of the invention include modular fencing systems comprising: a) one or more upright vertical post members; b) upper and lower horizontal guardrails with a longitudinal panel-receiving channel; c) one or more cellular polyvinyl chloride (PVC) panel inserts operably configured for insertion in the panel-receiving channels of the upper and lower guardrails; d) wherein, upon installation, the system is capable of receiving a load normal to the panel ranging from about 180 to about 360 lb/ft2 without failure. Cellular PVC panels for use in such systems are also included.

Abstract: A fence assembly with solar power light includes a plurality of transverse members and a plurality of posts. The posts are made of light transmitting material. By inserting the protrusions at the transverse members into the openings of the posts, the transverse members are connected to the posts. A solar panel is mounted to the top surface of each of the transverse members for collecting solar energy to power the light emitting elements in the transverse member and to charge a rechargeable battery. Alternatively, cold cathode tubes and light bulbs are used as the lighting devices instead of the light emitting elements. The cold cathode tubes are mounted to the bottom side of each of the posts. Power is obtained from external power source and supplied via a voltage adapter to the cold cathode tubes.

  • Patent number: 7325789
Abstract: Guardrail installation designs are described that incorporate a box beam rail as the structural rail member. The box beam rail member may have an open cross-section or a closed cross-section. An impact head is provided to bend and deflect the rail member during an end-on collision, allowing the rail member to be deflected away from the roadway and out of the path of an end-on impacting vehicle. The impact head includes a striking face and a chute portion that receives the box beam rail member therewithin. In addition to bending and deflecting the rail member, the impact head may also include a flattening section for flattening the rail member.

  • Patent number: 7314212
Abstract: A deformation and weather resistant, noise attenuating fencing assembly comprises a series of hollow posts, each post formed of a fiberglass reinforced resin, having spaced apart load bearing walls defining an exterior surface, an interior surface, a first open end and a second open end. The structure-reinforcing cap is inserted within a first open end of each of the posts and frictionally engages the interior surface of the post to substantially prevent movement of the exterior surface thereof when various types of appurtenant structures are mounted thereon, which would otherwise cause deformation and possible structural failure of the post walls. First and second clips are inserted into the first and second open ends of the post, respectively, to provide an easy mechanism to properly space and secure the posts together.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a consolidated form of the commingled continuous filaments of glass fibers and polymeric fibers as reinforcement. The consolidation of the commingled fibers into composite reinforcement can be used in a continuous form or bulk molding compound pellets. The consolidation of the commingled fibers into composite reinforcement can be made in-situ during in-line extrusion of the final end product extrudate, or prepared as a tape or rod and incorporated into an off-line extrusion of final product. The bulk molding pellets are used solely or diluted with an addition of polymeric material for mono or co-extrusion or compression molding.

  • Patent number: 7168689
Abstract: A sturdy aluminum pedestrian and bicyclist safety railing that reduces the amount of welding required during construction, comprising top and bottom rigid bars, each having a longitudinal, radially extending exterior passage and a plurality of aluminum pickets mounted within said bar top and bottom channels and held apart by a plurality of spacer plugs that interlock and snap snugly into each top and bottom bar channel and act as spacers to separate the pickets. The top and bottom bars may be welded together at each end of the railing to hold the entire unit together, retaining the plurality of rigid pickets that are substantially perpendicular (or inclined) to the top and bottom bars. The pickets are supported in the top and bottom bar channels without welding for increased strength and reduced cost of construction.
