Patent number: 4968457Abstract: A non-circulating water system for use in evaporative coolers which incorporates a timing means in conjunction with a valve means, to control the flow of water to the pads. It applies measured amounts of water to the pad and allows measured amounts of time between applications so that most of the water is used in the evaporation process and minimal amounts of water are discharged though a drain. Domestic water line pressure is used to transfer water to the pads, eliminating the need for reservoir water, float valve, pump and overflow pipe. The cycle of the timing means may be varied dependent on moisture or temperature conditions sensed in the pad.Type: GrantFiled: September 15, 1989Date of Patent: November 6, 1990Inventor: Gary M. Patent number: 4606866Abstract: A humidifier (10) used in respiratory therapy is disclosed where the surface tension of a light probe (32) used therewith is maintained greater than the surface tension of the aqueous liquid used in the humidifier (10). Maintaining the surface tension of the light probe (32) greater than the surface tension of the aqueous liquid generally avoids erroneous indication of aqueous liquid level in the humidifier (10). Erroneous indications of liquid level can be caused by gas bubbles adhering to submerged portions of the light probe (32) or liquid droplets adhering to unsubmerged portions of the light probe (32).Type: GrantFiled: April 8, 1985Date of Patent: August 19, 1986Assignee: Baxter Travenol Laboratories, Inc.Inventors: Mark McGlothlin, Dennis Reisdorf, Robert Virag

Patent number: 4112901Abstract: A fuel supply system supplies volatile fuel at a controlled rate to an air-fuel mixing chamber leading to a subatmospheric intake manifold of an internal combustion engine. Fuel is metered out by a metering gear pump supplied with fuel under pressure sufficient to maintain the fuel in its liquid state. An equalizer valve maintains the pressures on the two sides of the gear pump equal. This assures linearity of fuel rate as a function of pump speed. Pump speed is measured to provide a feedback signal to a controller. The controller compares the feedback with a control signal indicative of desired rate of fuel to develop driving power for application to the gear pump to drive the latter at the speed that supplies fuel at the desired rate.Type: GrantFiled: April 1, 1977Date of Patent: September 12, 1978Assignee: Autotronic Controls, Corp.Inventors: Leonard Lee Chapin, James Walter Merrick
