  • Patent number: 6800228
Abstract: Sterically hindered phenol antioxidant additive granules are formed from a paste comprising an organic processing agent comprising a friability reduction agent. The friability reduction agent preferably is an alcohol, more preferably an alkanol having up to about 8 carbon atoms, most preferably methanol, ethanol, and/or isopranol. After drying, the granules consist essentially of the sterically hindered phenol antioxidant additive system. The granules have a balanced hardness that provides sufficient abrasion resistance while permitting ready dispersion into a polymer host.

Abstract: Uniformly sized granules are formed using the present extruder and granulation process. The extruder contains a spiral worm screw for guiding a granulation material to an apertured plate. The spiral worm screw is rotated within a chamber and is formed from a guiding slant which terminates at a blunt edge near the apertured plate. The blunt edge rubs the granulation material against the apertured plate which softens the material foming a semi-solid material. The semi-solid material is then gently pushed through the apertured plate using just the required pressure. The granules are formed when the semi-solid material hardens after exiting the apertured plate.

  • Patent number: 6582638
Abstract: A granulator comprising a perforate screen located within a housing, a roller having a curved convex outer surface wherein the roller is pivotable relative to the screen so that in operation plastic material is able to be forced through the perforate screen by the roller surface so the roller pivots. The granulator is useful for wet and dry granulation.

Abstract: Methods of randomly dispersing chopped carbon fiber and consolidating the materials together to make a fiber reinforcement mat are disclosed. The term “Z-mat” is used to describe the claimed random fiber mat in which the chopped fibers are not preferentially oriented in either the x or y direction in the in-plane directions of the mat. The stiffness in the Z-mat is substantially independent of the test direction in the plane of the mat. The Z-mat offers the distinct advantages of higher stiffness and lighter weight.

  • Patent number: 6565780
Abstract: A method is provided for making ligneous material boards into an endless board strand with a continuously operating press. The press includes two flexible endless steel belts which take the press material between them and carry it through the press. The steel belts thrust with friction-reducing elements against heated press plates of the press table and press ram and a cooling system that follows. The cooling system is configured as a double-belt holding apparatus with an applicable holding pressure up to a maximum of 0 to 0.05 N/mm2. A diagonal sawing apparatus, which is disposed directly behind the continuously operating press and ahead of the cooling system, divides the board strand into single boards. Several rows of coolant spray nozzles disposed on the backs of the holding belts making contact with the single boards.

  • Patent number: 6562120
Abstract: The present invention provides a method for the preparation of pigment granules that are readily dispersible, robust, and have a reduced liability to dusting, preferably without the use of substantial quantities of binder, if any at all. The method comprises mixing at least one pigment selected from the group consisting of iron oxides, chromium oxides, cobalt blues, mixed metal oxides, carbon blacks and titanium oxides, with water to form a mixture having a dough-like consistency. The mixture is then extruded through at least one die to form extruded granules, thereby also compacting the mixture, which increases the strength of the granules. The extruded granules are then dried so that the final water content of the granules is less than substantially 5%.

Abstract: An apparatus for fiberizing bales of pulp into substantially dry fibers and fiber aggregates. One embodiment includes: a bale support member for supporting a bale of pulp, the bale support member defining two openings; two rotatable fiberizing assemblies having disrupting elements protruding through the openings an adjustable distance above the bale support member to contact a surface layer of the bale of pulp, the surface layer having a dimension parallel to the longitudinal axis of the fiberizing assembly, a transportation assembly for moving the bale of pulp back and forth along the bale support member and over the openings so that the disrupting elements contact a surface layer in the bale, an adjustable reciprocating assembly permitting adjustment of the frequency by which the transportation assembly moves back and forth over the opening.

  • Patent number: 6513424
Abstract: A pair of compression rollers 38a and 38b parallel with each other are provided and powder grains are supplied to a powder grain introduction/compression part 50 formed between the rollers 38a and 38b and, thereby, compression moldings of the powder grains are formed. A powder grain press/feed means 20 is provided in a front stage of the rollers 38a and 38b. The press/feed means 20 has a deaerating barrel 24 and previously presses the powder grains supplied between the rollers 38a and 38b. In side surfaces of the rollers 38a and 38b, side seals 37 are arranged with clearances 72 maintained from the rollers 38a and 38b. During pressing the powder moldings, the powder grains enter into the clearances so that closer layers are formed between the side surfaces of the compression rollers 38a and 38b and the side seals 37, thereby sealing the powder grain introduction/compression part 50.

  • Patent number: 6508965
Abstract: A process and an apparatus for the production of paper products, such as “cat litter” or paper fuel, comprising reducing paper to a particulate form by shredding and grinding, conveying the particles of paper from a hopper as a layer on a first conveyor firstly beneath a leveling and compacting roller and thereafter beneath a set of water sprayers, before discharging from the conveyor onto a second conveyor with the assistance of a rearwardly baffle plate to invert the layer during transfer. The inverted layer on the second conveyor passes to a third conveyor belt which moves through a ring with has the effect of wrapping the belt over itself and around the mix to form a tunnel enveloping and compacting the mix to form an extrusion. The paper product as extruded is cut into pellets before subjecting the pellets to dehydration. In the case of paper product to be used as paper fuel, the paper is mixed with coal dust.
