  • Patent number: 7081273
Abstract: A defect free semipermeable composite membrane having excellent integrity and high water permeability is provided. Said composite membrane comprises an inside support layer to provide sufficient mechanical strength; an outside barrier layer to provide selective separation; and a middle layer to provide both physical adhesion and chemical binding between said support and said barrier layer to bond them together. Three different methods for making said defect free composite membrane are discovered. These methods have been successfully utilized to produce high quality coatings and defect free composite membranes, which are independent of chemical composition and physical structure of said support. In the present invention, ultrasonic sonication is discovered to be effective to speed up the phase inversion process of a membrane casting solution, thus allows produce a composite membrane at a speed much higher than those disclosed in the prior art.

Abstract: A process for making a drag shield for a lawn mower includes forming from a rigid plastic material a relatively inflexible first end member adapted for secure attachment via a connecting element to an associated lawn mower deck, and a relatively inflexible second end member with a web portion extending therebetween for connecting the first and second end members. The web is formed from a rigid plastic material having a sufficiently thin and substantially uniform cross section for maintaining flexibility. The web and first and second end members are integral and provided in a single piece of rigid plastic material. The process further includes forming first and second layers of flexible plastic material on opposing sides of the web portion.

  • Patent number: 6187233
Abstract: An exterior automotive trim product, and method of making the same. In certain embodiments, a color pigmented thermoplastic layer is provided. A transparent clear coat is calendared to the color pigmented layer to form a composite or laminate. The laminate is subsequently vacuum-formed into a three dimensional shape approximating the desired shape of a final trim product. The vacuum-formed laminate is then inserted into an injection molding device, and semi-molten resin injected into the mold cavity behind the laminate. The resin fuses with the vacuum-formed laminate with the result being the final automotive trim product. Thus, no spray painting or spraying of solvents is required, and burdensome dry paint transfer techniques may be avoided.
