Abstract: Method for making a tire whose white sidewall portion is created by, selectively, providing a circumferential groove in the molded tire, buffing the surfaces of the groove, placing an adhesive in the groove, heating the tire about 138.degree. C. to dry the adhesive, bringing the tire temperature to about 100.degree. C. and, while rotating the tire with the groove in a substantially horizontal plane, directing a stream of white polyurethane stock into the groove by means of an applicator which is formed to direct the stock in differing volumes into the bottom of the groove and laterally against its corners and sides; the white sidewall strip so formed has the shape of a concave meniscus.
Abstract: An improved method for molding a unitary molded product comprised of three separate plastic materials includes the first step of molding the generally highest melting point, most abrasive, most viscous plastic material to mold a first form. Subsequently, the next generally lower melting point material is molded using the first form as a mold. Finally, the generally lowest melting point material is molded. By molding in a designated order, it is possible to mold a single product comprised of multiple plastic materials without having the materials bleed into one another. Additionally, a variety of materials having distinct melting points may be used to make a unitary molded product.
Abstract: Method for making a prefinished wall board having a contoured surface wherein a layer of settable material is applied to one side of a wall panel and a decorative pattern is formed in relief in the settable material which, when set, is harder than the wall panel. a decorative coating may be applied to the relieved portions of the moldable material, and reinforcing and insulating members may be connected to the opposite side of the panel.

Abstract: A method of making three-dimensional simulated stained glass objects from resins. A sheet of resin having the ornamental pattern of the object printed on it is preformed substantially to the shape of the object. The preform is inserted in an injection mold for being reinforced on one side or another with a thicker resin layer. Mounting flanges, bosses, ribs, interlocking joints and other mating configurations are formed with the reinforcing layer to enable combining a molded three-dimensional section with other three-dimensional sections to form more complex objects. The printing on the flat resin sheet is pre-distorted, as required, so that when it is formed to the contours of the object the printing will assume a proper undistorted form.
Abstract: A marble-patterned enclosure such as a bathtub, basin or sink is provided wherein a marble pattern is applied to the back of a transparent acrylic sheet prior to thermoforming. After the acrylic sheet with the marble pattern applied to the back thereof has been thermoformed into the desired configuration a layer of opaque-colored primer, which is a paint consisting essentially of unsaturated polyester and pigment is applied on the pattern printed exterior side of the configuration for the dual purposes of preventing the marble pattern from bleeding, discoloration, etc. and to increase both impact strength and heat resistance of the formed structure. Thereafter on top of the primer, another layer of fiber glass reinforced polyester is applied to provide general reinforcement to the structure.
Abstract: A method of permanently marking a rubber product is provided wherein the rubber product has a debossed marking of a particular color in a portion thereof and a layer of rubber is defined as an integral part of the rubber product and surrounds the marking with such layer of rubber having a color which is different than and contrasts the particular color.
Abstract: A method of compression molding a special purpose coating or skin onto the surface of a freshly molded polymeric substrate, including the steps of: injecting a skin-forming material between the surface to be coated and the die forming that surface such that the substrate is hydraulically immobilized within the mold cavity during separation of the die from the substrate surface, and thereafter compression molding the skin-forming material over the surface.
Abstract: The invention discloses a process of multi-material moulding using a novel material guidance device or transfer plate which also acts as a transport mechanism to guide, from one moulding station, a partially moulded component or article, along a controlled flow path, to another station and to register the said article into the requisite second cavity thereat for subsequent moulding of another mould material. The transport mechanism, on arrival at the second station, may, but need not, be stripped away from the partially moulded component contained thereon, but only after the article is disposed into the registration within a subsequent or second cavity located at the second mould station. Under the preferred embodiment, the transfer plate acts as a core member to the mould of the cavity during at least one moulding step; in its simplest form the transfer plate is flat.
Abstract: Method for applying an elastic band around the cuff of an elastic glove which includes extruding a stripe of elastomeric material around the cuff of the glove while on a glove form and curing the stripe. A tray carrying a row of glove forms, each having a glove thereon, is stopped to position one of the forms at a band applying station. A mast having an extruder nozzle adjacent the cuff edge is moved circumferentially about the cuff in a generally elliptical path to avoid engagement with adjacent forms while allowing the forms to be closely spaced for economical manufacturing.
Abstract: An improved gaming token and fabrication process therefor wherein an injection molding compound is applied at selected preconfigured locations within and between a pair of aligned, substantially flat annular non-metallic rings. The common interface between the injected molding compound and the annular rings receiving the molding compound is seen as continuous sharply defined lines between the different colors of the molding compound and of the rings, respectively. These lines define preconfigured surface designs which are contiguous with the outer surfaces of the two annular rings. One or more coins may be mounted in a central opening defined by certain portions of the annular rings, and these coins impart an added measure of control over the distribution of these tokens in instances where the annular rings are made by authorized outside vendors.
Abstract: In a method of preparing colored fibrous sheet materials wherein a fiber-pulp is treated in a defibrator to form a stream of gas containing suspended fibers which are caused to form a fibrous layer on a forming surface, a dye or dye solution is added to the fiber-pulp which is introduced into said defibrator.

Abstract: A method for producing glass fiber reinforced plastic molded articles with decorative patterns thereon is provided, which method includes the steps of placing at least two kinds of differently colored sheet molding compound (SMC) mat layers on a stationary mold, each of the SMC mats including glass fibers impregnated with resin, the resin in each of the SMC mats including different colorants, the area of each SMC mat layer occupying less than the total effective molding surface area of the stationary mold surface, disposing a movable mold in engagement with the stationary mold with the SMC mat layers interposed between such molds, and applying heat and pressure to the molds so as to fluidize and polymerize and cure the resin in the SMC mats. When fluidized, the two kinds of differently colored mats are mingled with each other to form flow patterns comprised of the distinct colors of each of the mats.
Abstract: A process for producing a decorative surface covering wherein granular dryblend is deposited on a releasable carrier and heated to form a porous cohesive layer. Settable resinous inks are then applied to selected surface portions of the dryblend to form design areas which may overlap at the points of application. The inked areas extend partially or completely through the layer so that they are visible from the bottom surface of the sheet which ultimately becomes the face of the surface covering, after final fusion of all of the resinous materials. The ink may optionally be set by heat prior to or simultaneously with the subsequent application and gelling of a resinous back coating, if one is used. The back coating may be reinforced by included or attached material to form a permanent carrier. Depending on the backing used, heat may be applied to fuse the composite structure before or after the release carrier is removed.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for molding rubber to an article, e.g. a two-color rubber sole onto a lasted upper of an article of footwear, are disclosed. Unvulcanized rubber of one color is placed into a mold cavity bounded by the article, openable peripheral side ring means, and a movable mold member, e.g. a sole plate, located opposite the article. The movable mold member is provided with a peripheral outwardly extending lip for forming, in the rubber flash escaping around the periphery of the movable mold member, a peripherally extending weakened region. A peripherally extending groove is also provided in the movable mold member adjacent the lip to the side of the latter facing away from the article, for forming the flash rubber escaping past the lip into a bead. In the method, a first rubber to be molded is introduced into the cavity and the movable mold member is then advanced toward the article until the first rubber is spread against the article.
