  • Patent number: 7316561
Abstract: A hot runner molding manifold has a first half having flow grooves, a cover piece having flow grooves complementary to the flow grooves of the first half, and a second half securable to the first half and having a cavity for receiving the cover piece. The flow grooves of the first half and the cover piece form flow channels for distributing molten material from an inlet port to outlet ports. The cover piece is engaged with the first half, for example by welding, to reduce leakage of molten material out of the flow channels. Heater grooves in the first half, second half or both the first and second halves receive one or more heating elements for heating the flow channels.

Abstract: In a method for producing a bristle from thermoplastic polymers through injection molding, the molten polymer mass is injected under pressure into a bristle-molding channel of predetermined length having a predetermined cross-section along this length and the channel is vented during injection molding. To produce injection-molded bristles with excellent bending behavior, the magnitude of the injection pressure is adjusted in dependence on the cross-sectional extension of the bristle-molding channel such that a shear flow is generated with high core speed in the center of the molten polymer mass flow and large shearing effect due to wall friction of the molten polymer mass under distinct longitudinal orientation of the polymer molecules at least in the region of the molten polymer mass close to the wall, which is maintained along the channel wherein the channel is simultaneously vented along its length to support maintenance of the shear flow. A device for carrying out the method is also described.

Two air vent gates are spaced apart from the confluent point so as to provide a larger area of the joint plane. Articles having a good outer appearance and improved strength at the material joint can be consistently manufactured to a high precision.

Abstract: During injection molding of a plastic product having a base wall and a sidewall, alignment of the mold parts that shape the mold cavity is maintained by conducting injected plastic material through a sequence of variable-opening throttles in a base-wall-section flow guide of the mold cavity. The openings of the throttles vary in response to variations in the thickness of a region of the sidewall section into which injected plastic material is conducted from the base-wall-section flow guide so that upon an increase in the thickness of such region the openings of the throttles in the base-wall-section flow guide decrease and so that upon a decrease in the thickness of such region the openings of the throttles in the base-wall-section flow guide increase.

A molten resin is injected into a cavity 17 of a metal mold 11 including: a fixed mold 13 having a hole portion 12 having a shape along the outer shape of the injector outer tube 1; a movable mold 14 closing the hole portion 12; and a core 15 inserted into the hole portion 12. A cylindrical vacant portion is provided communicating with a flange forming portion 20 of the hole portion 12. The molten resin R is injected from a sprue 22 and a runner 23 via a submarine gate 24 into the cylindrical vacant portion 21 and the molten resin R is introduced into the cavity 17. The cylindrical vacant portion 21 has a push pin 25. Abstract: A vehicle interior member with an air bag includes an air bag door portion that can be made to be invisible and of improved construction. The vehicle member includes a skin molded to a substrate. The skin includes a tear line formed by a diagonal cut portion. In the vicinity of a lateral tear line of the skin side tear line, a projecting portion is provided on a lower mold to form a groove portion of the substrate along the diagonal cut portion so as to intercept a flow of a resin from the cutting direction of the diagonal cut portion. Therefore, as the resin flows in a reverse direction to the cutting direction of the diagonal cut portion at an opening portion thereof, a flow of the resin into a PP foam layer of a three-layer skin through the opening portion of the diagonal cut portion can be suppressed. This prevents the PP foam layer from being melted and damaged.

A number of branches intersect with the runner along its length so as to be disposed at unequal distances from the inlet. In order to achieve more simultaneous delivery, uniform fill rate, and identity of temperature of hot melt across all cavities of a multi-cavity set to achieve more uniform cooling of the preforms, restrictor pin assemblies are provided in association with certain of the branches to adjustably constrict the space available for melt flow from the runner into the branch. Abstract: A tear portion is formed at a substantially center portion in a longitudinal direction and at both end portions in a lateral direction of an air bag door portion of an instrument panel so as to be formed in an H shape in a plan view. In the air bag door portion, protrusions are protruded downward at positions at both sides in a longitudinal direction of an automotive vehicle having therebetween a center portion of the tear portion, these protrusions being integrally formed with the air bag door portion. Accordingly, it is structured such that during expansion of the air bag body, the expanding air bag body abuts lower surfaces of the protrusions, so as to press the protrusions upward. Therefore, even in a case wherein the air bag door portion and the main body portion of the trim member for the automotive vehicle are formed of the same resin, a quality of an outer appearance is not deteriorated, and a break force of a break portion of the air bag door portion is reduced to a desired value.
