    Abstract: The present invention includes a welding jig having a first support plate and a second support plate rotatably connected to the first support plate. The second support plate has a template-shaped perimeter including arcuately shaped segments shaped to support pipe fittings of different sizes. By selectively positioning a particular segment and securing locking the particular segment in place, a particular pipe fitting such as a particular 90.degree. pipe elbow can be supported with one end resting on the selected particular segment and the other end resting on the first support plate. By this arrangement, particular pipe fitting can be supported in a predetermined and square position relative to a pipe, thus facilitating welding the particular pipe elbow to the pipe. This allows substantially a one-person welding operation.

    Abstract: In a workpiece support for use with a laser beam machine tool, in which the workpiece is rotated about an axis tiltable through 90.degree. or more to either side of a vertical condition, the workpiece is held by a chuck driven through a right-angle speed reducer by a servomotor. The chuck, reducer and motor are all supported on a shaft rotatably mounted in bearings on a frame. The shaft is coupled to a disc having angle markings and lockable at discrete rotational positions on the frame. Fine adjustment of the rotational position of the shaft relative to the disc is effected by engagement of an offset protrusion on the end of the shaft by a screw-shifted operating member on the disc. Two such operating members are provided in opposed relationship on opposite sides of the protrusion so that they can be used to lock the shaft and disc securely together.

    Abstract: An index table comprising a base, a main plate mounted on the base, a drive wheel mounted for rotation on one side of the main plate about a first axis transverse to the main plate, a work plate on the other side of the main plate rotatably mounted about a second transverse axis spaced from the first transverse axis, and a segment wheel mounted on the one side of said main plate and fixed with relation to the work plate. Circumferentially spaced segment drivers are mounted on the drive wheel and are adapted to engage circumferentially spaced slots on the segment wheel to intermittently drive the segment wheel and in turn the work plate. A yoke plate is mounted on the one side of the main plate for movement radially with respect to the drive wheel and the segment wheel. As the drive wheel rotates, each segment driver engages the yoke plate and moves the yoke plate relative to the segment wheel.

    Abstract: An apparatus for rapidly and accurately positioning and holding a very small elongated body, such as a stylus holder during manufacturing is disclosed. A pair of magnets or magnetized regions are utilized to position the stylus holder both rotationally and axially. A pusher mechanism, in conjunction with a pair of locating blocks very precisely aligns the stylus holder, causing it to engage the seat of an anvil for support during the manufacturing operation. A retaining mechanism retains the stylus holder within the apparatus until completion.

The apparatus also includes a second elongated jaw also having an elongated V-shaped open trough in it. The apparatus includes structure for clamping the first and second jaws together.

Accordingly, when the support structures are used in pairs of support structures with each pair supporting a horizontal door or other panel between the central areas thereof the ridges and troughs of vertically stacked support structures may be engaged with each other in order to support the panel members in horizontal, vertically spaced and stacked relation.

    Abstract: The joint of this invention is pivotable and lockable about two perpendicularly intersecting axes. It is particularly suitable for a reading stand for patients confined to bed. Be means of the joint, the supporting surface of the reading stand can be adjusted as to slant as well as transverse tilt. The joint comprises a T-shaped component (12) supported in bearings (11) so as to be tiltable and lockable about its cross beam. The bearings (11) are mounted on a base plate (10). The base plate (10) itself is pivotable and lockably secured to a support plate (20). In order for a sick person to be able to adjust the joint with a minimum of physical exertion, locking levers (14 and 23) are provided for each of the two adjustable positions. The locking is effected by detent means (13--13' and 17-26).

    Abstract: A work stand for rotably mounting an engine thereon during the initial construction of the engine, or for repair of the engine, includes two concentric rings which are disposed in upstanding relationship and are mounted on a base. The latter is mounted in a generally horizontal disposition and is rotable with the inner ring whereby access to the engine is unobstructed from either the top or bottom of the engine, as well as along the entire length of the engine. A locking mechanism is provided between the inner and outer rings of the work stand for maintaining the engine at the desired angular attitude, and the engine is mounted such that its center of gravity is disposed adjacent the upstanding planes of the concentric rings.
