Suits Patents (Class 273/303)
  • Patent number: 5257788
Abstract: Disclosed is a deck of rectangular playing cards usually having two substantially parallel long edges and two substantially parallel short edges, substantially all cards in the deck having a front symmetrically designed with respect to both short edges, to minimize cheating by signalling with asymmetric cards. The front is usually designed to be symmetrical with respect to the short axis, and preferably the long axis as well, of each card. Generally, the deck includes at least 52 cards, thirteen in each of the four standard suits, spades, hearts, diamonds, and clubs. Frequently the symmetry is obtained by the use of at least one "double-pip" in the front of the card. A "double-pip" consists of a single pip of a suit having asymmetric pips, the pip placed generally end to end with its mirror image to create a single symmetric rather than asymmetric pip of the suit. Sometimes "reversed pips" are also used. A "reversed pip" is merely a pip placed upside-down on the front rather than right side up.

  • Patent number: 5141234
Abstract: A method for playing a wagering game whose outcome is determined by randomly received symbols is provided. Initially, symbols such as cards having a numerical value of one, two, or three as well as a designation as one of two suits are supplied. A wager by at least one player is then made on the attaining of a net total of a hand of received symbols. The net total of a hand is equal to a gross total of added numerical values of the symbols of one suit less a gross total of added numerical values of the symbols of the other suit. Where there are at least two players, the net total of each hand dealt is determined and the net totals of the hands are compared to determine which net total is closest to a predetermined winning total of seven without exceeding the winning total. In addition, there are also no value cards having no suit which are dealt. The play can include the presenting to each player of an optional hit card after the first three cards are received.

  • Patent number: 5141235
Abstract: An educational card game adapted to be played on a geographical game board bearing a continental area with countries marked and outlined therein. The outlined countries of the game board are geographically shaped and removed similar to puzzle pieces whereby each are adapted to fit with one another and to overlie the outlined country space. The game is played similar to gin rummy, whereby educational game cards with specific geographical features and information are used for the card playing aspect of the game. The players compete for desired cards, the accumulation of which entitles one player to win each round. The players, after each round is over, collect country board pieces which are added to a player's point totals. The game is completed when all of the country board pieces have been collected or a predetermined point total has been reached.

  • Patent number: 5112059
Abstract: A method and apparatus for playing a card game containing a deck of sixty cards. The deck is divided into four distinguishable categories. Each category comprises a plurality of cards numbered consecutively. The deck also includes two non-numbered cards. A predetermined number of cards have point values. During game play tricks are played with each player playing a card having the same category as the category of the card leading the trick. After each player has had a turn at playing a card of the trick, the player that played the highest numbered card of the trick takes the trick along with the points, if any, in the trick. The player which took the last trick leads a card for the next trick. A player is forced to take a trick when that player plays a multiple point value card during a trick and an opposing player counters by playing a non-numbered card in the same trick. The object of the game is to avoid acquiring points.

  • Patent number: 5037108
Abstract: A game which may be, but does not have to be, played on a diamond shaped board with contiguous sections in a continuous band around its periphery, a playing piece, and playing cards. Sections on the board affect the strategy of when to take or pass playing cards. Individual play involves drawing a card to determine the section of the board that the playing piece will land on. Once on a section, the player must draw cards and take or pass them according to the section on the board. Players attempt to build-up and retire stacks of cards to score points. The player with the highest score wins.

  • Patent number: 4369976
Abstract: This invention relates to an improved version of my previously patented card game (U.S. Pat. No. 4,234,189) wherein the deck of fifty-two cards is divided as before into four suits of thirteen cards each; however, I now display on each card of each suit a single trump-determining category or genus effective to distinguish each such suit from the other three. In addition, while I retain the alphabetical indicia common to all four suits that is used to distinguish each card in a suit from the other twelve, I now display on each card specific identifying indicia which uniquely distinguishes each card from all other cards in the deck while, at the same time, falling within the particular trump-determining category of the suit within which the card is located. The latter indicia determines the so-called trump word within the trump suit and it can comprise either a word or words or a picture or a word or group of words and matching picture.

  • Patent number: 4227698
Abstract: This game for children is played using a plurality of like-shaped playing pieces or tiles divided into sets having an equal number of pieces per set. Each piece of a set has a particular design in a particular color on one exposed surface of a piece. The other exposed surfaces of each piece are unmarked. The design and color utilized have been selected to be easily recognized by a young child and distinguishable from the other designs and colors used. A fixed number of pieces are selected randomly by players of the game to form a hand leaving a set number of remaining undivided pieces. Each selected piece can be conveniently placed in a support rack carried by a four-sided frame of a playing board. Each player in rotation then selects a piece from the undivided remaining pieces. The player retains the selected piece if the design or color of the design matches that of a piece in the hand.
