  • Patent number: 11460114
Abstract: A bonnet seal assembly for a gate valve includes a generally cylindrical packing nut positioned in the stem bore around the valve stem. The packing nut includes first and second spaced-apart annular sealing surfaces, and the bonnet seal assembly includes a third annular sealing surface connected to or formed integrally with the valve stem and a fourth annular sealing surface formed concentrically in the stem bore. In a first position of the valve stem, the first annular sealing surface sealingly engages the third annular sealing surface to thereby form a first seal between the valve stem and the packing nut, and the second annular sealing surface sealing engages the fourth annular sealing surface to thereby form a second seal between the packing nut and the stem bore. In this manner, the first and second seals together operate to seal the stem bore from fluid pressure in the gate cavity.

  • Patent number: 10247310
Abstract: A self-retaining, recessed seal for reception in an open top groove, where the groove is neither configured for seal retention (e.g., convergent side walls), nor provided with seal retention features such as flanges, projections, etc. No adhesives are required, enabling the seal to be easily removed for cleaning, etc. The self-retaining seal has a bottom structure with lateral extensions, wider than the groove, with upwardly angled surfaces at the edges and portions that extend upward when compressed laterally by the walls of the groove. Side walls of the seal extend upward from the bottom structure and are slightly narrower than the groove, to avoid or minimize contact with the groove side walls when the seal is inflated. The configuration enables relatively easy installation of the seal but effectively prevents the seal from “walking” out of the groove over time, with repeated cycles of inflation and deflation.

Abstract: This method to allow the use of low VOC (volatile organic compounds) solvents in blanket cleaning operations and the resultant product that is produced by this method involves the retrofitting of currently existing seals on printing press so that operators can use low VOC solvents in place of high VOC solvents. High VOC solvents are harmful to the atmosphere and humans alike. As VOC are lighter than the surrounding air, humans are subjected to inhalation of these harmful vapors which cause respiratory and other health ailments. The VOC continue to rise, mixing with nitrogen oxides, until they reach the troposphere forming thick layers of ozone or smog. The current movement of municipalities to limit the use of high VOC solvents have lead printers and others to use low VOC solvents which are inherently less evaporative than high VOC solvents. This lack of evaporation causes problems with having to handle greater volumes of waste to handle and dispose properly.

Abstract: Conventional anti-rotation devices comprised of packing rings in a packing container of a pressure packing consist of an anti-rotation pin inserted in a packing ring and engaging in a recess at an adjacent packing ring. Due to the different wear rates of the packing rings such anti-rotation pins are subject to shear stress that increases with wear and that can cause the anti-rotation pin to break. Injection-molded packing ring segments with molded anti-rotation nibs in turn require great material thickness for the anti-rotation nibs to be able to withstand the occurring stresses. To solve this problem, the invention suggests to mold a radial anti-rotation groove 24 at a radially cut packing ring segment 21 at one end, and to mold an anti-rotation nib 26 at an injection-molded tangentially cut packing ring segment 20, said anti-rotation nib engaging in the radial anti-rotation groove 24.

Abstract: A long life high pressure seal stack provides a reliable and efficient seal between a plunger and housing of a plunger type pump. The seal stack includes a high pressure sealing element and a low pressure sealing element, both of which provide a sealing extension which surrounds and is in contact with the plunger. The sealing extension is configured to be exposed to internal pressures within the valve, thus urging the sealing extension tighter against the plunger when pressures are high, while relaxing the sealing extension when pressures are low. By incorporating this variable pressure feature, the friction between the plunger and the seal is greatly reduced, especially during low pressure conditions. Further, the sealing elements are constructed of a low friction material, thus avoiding problems related to potential overheating of a seal element.

A shaft seal structure for a valve includes a body for a valve, a valve shaft, a valve disc disposed within the body so as to be rotatable or capable of ascending and descending, a valve shaft seal chamber having the valve shaft axially attached thereto, a shaft seal packing that is attached to the shaft seal chamber and comprises annular packing bodies stacked and substantially V-shaped in cross section, with stacked layer faces on the inner-diameter side of the packing bodies brought into tight contact with one another and stacked layer faces on the outer-diameter side of the packing bodies formed with prescribed gaps between the adjacent stacked layer faces.

Abstract: Conventional combinations of radially and tangentially cut packing rings require, in particular as wear progresses, a degree of resilient deformation of the resilient packing ring, in order to be able to achieve a satisfactory sealing effect. However, the level of wear achievable is limited thereby. On the other hand, sealing rings which offer a high level of wear and a long service life due to the cut arrangement wear in an uncontrolled manner, which is associated with a risk of damage to or destruction of the sealing rings, resulting in the need for regular maintenance and replacement of the sealing rings.

  • Patent number: 7618045
Abstract: The invention pertains to a sealing arrangement 10, 10a, which acts between a housing 12 and a component 14 installed in the housing 12, with a stop 16, permanently connected to the housing 12; with a spring 20, which is supported on the stop 16; and, with at least one first sealing element 22 in working connection with the spring 20. Abutment 34 is designed to be adjusted against the force of the spring such that the spring 20 is completely compressed—squeezed into a block—and additional load can be exerted on the sealing element 22, so that in particular any leakage which has developed can be stopped—on an emergency basis—by the exertion of additional load on the sealing element 22, which has the effect of increasing the sealing force which the sealing element 22 exerts.

Abstract: A valve having a valve packing removal device attached thereto is disclosed. The valve may include a valve plug reciprocally disposed within the valve housing and connected to a sliding stem. The packing may be provided about the valve stem to ensure or minimize leakage of regulated fluid from the valve. A sleeve may have a diameter less than a bore in which the packing is disposed and may be connected to the valve stem such that when the valve stem is sufficiently pulled from the valve, the sleeve engages the packing and pulls the packing from the valve.

Abstract: In a high-pressure cylinder with an axial plunger, a seal assembly for scaling the gap between the cylinder wall and the plunger. The assembly is disposed in an annual recess in the wall having an open end and a bottom opposite thereto, and comprises a plunger-sealing ring, a cylinder-sealing ring, a resilient low-pressure ring, and an annual seal holder. The seal holder urges the plunger-sealing ring against the cylinder-sealing ring and the low-pressure ring, and urges the latter two rings against the recess bottom and against each other. The plunger-sealing ring and the cylinder-sealing ring are metallic, their mutual contact surfaces are fitted to each other, and the plunger-sealing ring has sufficient section modulus to ensure that under high pressure the contact and bending deformations at the mutual contact surfaces will be sufficiently small as to keep a tight fit therebetween.

A plurality of raised spaced radially distributed wiper strips are attached to outside surface of each gland which are directionally deployed at an angle with the direction of the axis of the gland such that the wiper strips act to return escaping material back into an associated mixing vessel. The gland assemblies are designed to be mounted on to rotate with a corresponding one of the pair of stirrer shafts and are enabled to move axially relative therealong.
