Wear Sleeve Patents (Class 277/527)
  • Patent number: 8500091
Abstract: A valve stem is journaled in a journaling portion of a valve box in an upwardly and downwardly movable manner; a packing is interposed between the journaling portion and the valve stem; a packing gland is arranged above the packing; a yoke sleeve is provided above the packing gland; and a valve seat in the valve box is opened and closed with a valve element provided at the lower end of the valve stem by rotating a handle fitted into the yoke sleeve to move the valve stem upward and downward. A protective tube formed integrally with the packing gland is provided between the packing gland and the yoke sleeve around the valve stem. A guide projection with which the inner periphery of the upper end of the protective tube comes into contact is provided on the lower surface of the yoke sleeve.

  • Patent number: 6553639
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a leaf seal for use between rotating components comprises forming corrugations within a metallic strip and feeding the corrugated strip into a seal guide. The corrugated strip is then pressed into the guide by an angled ram such that the corrugations lie at an acute angle to the perpendicular axis. The strip is then secured in a seal carrier, the free ends of the corrugations thus forming the angled sealing leaves of a leaf seal.

  • Patent number: 6488263
Abstract: A valve stem has a thickness of hardfaced material on its outer diameter in the area contacting the stem packing where the seal is formed which prevents corrosion, erosion and/or scratching of the valve stem, thereby preventing formation of leak paths. A valve packing comprises a vertically stacked array comprising alternating metal pressure rings and graphite seals.

  • Patent number: 6390666
Abstract: In the field of helical bladed rotors, and their sealing assemblies an improved upstream seal for mixer rotors is provided. It includes a bushing-like visco sleeve subassembly, a sleeve shaped metallic liner positioned abutting the visco sleeve; a sleeve-like, visco seal having first and second peripheries, an L-shaped packing seat retainer, all configured to provide a single annular shaped inner chamber in which a single, rope-like packing component serves to minimize hardening of the packing assembly by minimizing feed particulate material leaking into the upstream visco seal.

  • Patent number: 6283740
Abstract: A rotary lobe pump is provided with an improved sealing mechanism between the rotor and outside diameter of the shaft upon which the rotor is mounted. An adapter is provided for the drive shaft which enables the drive shaft to be easily coupled to a variety of drive mechanisms. The adapter can be replaced with an alternative adapter suited to fit alternative drive mechanisms. An improved means for mounting the timing gears on the drive and driven shafts is provided which enables the timing gears to be easily adjusted during assembly to improve the rate at which rotary lobe pumps can be assembled. An improved shaft configuration is provided with a thicker boss section providing additional structural support at the timing gear. The shaft may be cast molded. An improved seal assembly is also provided whereby the seal is frictionally accommodated inside a sleevelike seal housing which, in turn, is frictionally accommodated inside the rotor.

  • Patent number: 5957461
Abstract: A unitary radial lip seal assembly to provide a fluid tight seal between a shaft and a housing bore through which the shaft extends includes an annular rigid retainer, a resilient body portion secured to the retainer and defining at least one sealing lip to seal against the rotatable shaft and a sleeve bearing member supported by said seal assembly outboard of the sealing lip. In one form the bearing member is rigidly connected to the retainer, in another, it is resiliently mounted to provide shaft vibration dampening. In the latter embodiment, the bearing member includes a radial wall urged into frictional engagement with a radial wall of the resilient body to restrict rotation of the bearing member.
