Patent number: 11698062Abstract: An oil wiper packing for a piston rod of a crosshead piston compressor, and corresponding assembly method. The oil wiper packing has at least one chamber disc having a chamber disc cutout, wherein a wiper ring arranged in the chamber disc cutout. At least two chamber discs, each having a chamber disc cutout, are arranged in succession in a direction of extent (L), and a single wiper ring is in each chamber disc cutout. Each wiper ring has no play or only negligible play in the direction of extent (L) in the operating state but is movable in the radial direction. It is necessary to set the play in in the cold state during the assembly of the wiper rings. Such an arrangement allows advantageous wiping of oil, preventing oil from spreading in the direction of extent of the piston rod.Type: GrantFiled: August 28, 2017Date of Patent: July 11, 2023Assignee: BurckHardt CompRession AGInventor: Norbert Feistel

Patent number: 9126668Abstract: A seal arrangement for sealing around a rotating shaft that passes through a ship bulkhead includes an expandible and contractible seal ring made of several seal ring segments, and radial actuators that engage the seal ring segments and can be power-activated, e.g. with a pressure medium, to pull the seal ring segments radially outwardly, thereby expanding the seal ring to a larger diameter spaced away from the shaft. When the radial actuators are not activated, the biasing force of springs contracts the seal ring segments to a smaller diameter, to establish sealing contact of the seal ring on the shaft. In normal operation a control unit activates the actuators, but if sensors detect a power failure or water in the ship, or a manual switching is triggered, then the seal arrangement contracts under spring force into the sealing condition with the seal rings sealing against the shaft.Type: GrantFiled: February 28, 2013Date of Patent: September 8, 2015Assignee: Blohm + Voss Industries GmbHInventor: Joerg Brand

Patent number: 7524167Abstract: Aspects of the invention are directed to a sealing system for the interface between a combustor liner and transition duct. The system includes a spring clip seal. A first end of the spring clip seal operatively engages the inner peripheral surface of the transition duct. A second end of the spring clip seal is indirectly attached to the liner by an insert disposed therebetween. The spring clip seal can be attached to the insert by any kind of welding process that does not involve melting of the spring clip seal and the insert, such as fillet welding. The insert and the liner can be attached in a similar manner. Because fillet welds are relatively easy to cut, the spring clip, insert and liner can be separated without the need for cutting any of these individual components. Thus, the system can facilitate the repair, disassembly and reassembly of the interface.Type: GrantFiled: May 4, 2006Date of Patent: April 28, 2009Assignee: Siemens Energy, Inc.Inventors: Rajeev Ohri, Plum Boonsuan

Patent number: 6439578Abstract: Two axially abutting individual rings (4, 5) arranged in a shared casing recess (3) at the passage (6) of a component (2) to be sealed, which each is formed of several ring segments (4′, 5′) pressed against the component (2) to be sealed by a common peripheral spring (8). The cover ring (4) facing the side (6) to be sealed is radially divided and relieved from pressure by inlet-side radial grooves (7). The actual sealing ring (5) is divided by essentially tangential sections. To reduce wear and heat transfer, the cover ring (4) exhibits a circumferential carrying shoulder (9) on the side facing the sealing ring (5), on which sits the sealing ring (5) with the circumferential peripheral surface (10) of a twist-out section (11). In addition, the pressure on the cover ring (4) is largely relieved by an inner peripheral groove (12) that is provided on the side of the carrying shoulder (9) and in contact with the delivery side (6).Type: GrantFiled: November 3, 2000Date of Patent: August 27, 2002Assignee: Hoerbiger Ventilwerke GmbHInventor: Christopher David Radcliffe

Patent number: 6145843Abstract: This invention discloses a completely different hydrodynamic gas seal configuration from both the Rayleigh bearing and other prior art. Instead of the shallow, wide, and short single pocket geometry for the Rayleigh bearing, and instead of the multiple depth grooves of the other prior art teachings, the hydrodynamic seal in this invention has a sealing face with lift pockets therein that are deep (normally in the range of about 0.010 inches to about 0.025 inches deep), narrow, long, multiple, coextensive, parallel, and single-depth. This invention incorporates the same basic hydraulic principle of generating pressure rise by the shearing gradient between the rotating shaft and stationary carbon elements, and therefore produces a force which is opposite in direction to the rubbing force generated by the ambient pressure drop across the seal. In this invention the forces are more evenly balanced across the axial face of the seal ring segments, thereby accommodating any conicity of the shaft race.Type: GrantFiled: October 19, 1998Date of Patent: November 14, 2000Assignee: Stein Seal CompanyInventor: Mingfong Hwang
