Abstract: An apparatus for releasably holding a tubular toolholder shank includes a tool support member; a canister disposed within the tool support member; a lock rod movable within the tool support member in a reciprocating motion for pulling the tubular toolholder shank into a locked position and for releasing the tubular toolholder shank to an unlocked position; and at least two locking elements engaging the lock rod so that movement of the lock rod causes the locking elements to extend outward to engage the tubular toolholder shank. The lock rod includes a relief cavity extending rearward from a forward end of the lock rod. The lock rod has a maximum outer diameter and the relief cavity has a maximum diameter. A ratio of the maximum diameter of the relief cavity to the maximum outer diameter of the front portion of the lock rod is greater than approximately 1 to 4.

  • Publication number: 20110121523
Abstract: A toolholder support member for retaining the shank of a toolholder has a bore to accept the toolholder shank. A retention member extends through the bore wall to engage a perforation extending through the shank or indentation within the shank, thereby retaining the shank within the receiving bore. The retention member is biased to provide resistance for insertion or extraction of the shank within the receiving bore. Furthermore, the retention bore is angled relative to the longitudinal axis of the receiving bore so that the force required to insert the toolholder within the receiving bore is minimized, while the force required to extract the toolholder from the receiving bore is maximized.

Abstract: A shank attachment device attaches a core drill to a rotating portion of a drill device and includes an arbor and a shank. The arbor is detachably attachable to the rotating portion. The arbor and the shank are detachably attachable to each other. The shank is detachably attachable to the core drill. A stopper engages a groove of the shank to stop a movement of the shank in an axial direction away from the arbor. A rotational torque of the arbor can be transmitted to the shank by engaging a first engaging portion of the arbor with a first engaged portion of the shank. The shank contacts the arbor to stop the movement of the shank in the axial direction toward the arbor.

Abstract: The invention relates to a junction (14) between two components (10, 12) of a tool system that rotates about an axis of rotation (16), especially for use in machine tools. The junction (14) comprises an at least partially conical seat (18), arranged on the first component (10), which is coaxial to the axis of rotation (16) and which is defined by at least one annular front face (20). The second component (12) carries a coupling part (22) which comprises a coupling pin (24) having a conical surface (32) that is complementary to the conical seat (18) and an annular end face (26) pointing towards the annular front face (20) and, in the coupled state, resting against the same. A tie bolt (36) axially projects beyond the free end of the coupling pin (24) and engages, in the coupled state, in a cavity (38) that is adjacent to the seat (18). The junction also has tensioning means that can be actuated from the exterior for mutually bracing the components (10, 12).
