Abstract: The invention relates to a sealed mechanical connection between glass and metal for receiver tubes used in solar plants of the type using a heat-transfer fluid, which uses a mechanical force in order to establish the seal between the inner metal tubes and the outer glass tubes, between which tubes a high vacuum is established in order to prevent heat losses. According to the invention, a flexible, deformable metal joint is used for the above-mentioned seal, which joint, when duly compressed, adapts to the corresponding surfaces of the tubes to be sealed, thereby establishing the seal between the respective tubes. In addition, the invention can include a continuous system for maintaining the necessary vacuum between both types of tubes.

Abstract: This invention is directed to a novel multi-piece flange connector used for connecting a pump housing to a fluid conduit. The pump flange is comprised of a flange blank, an insert plate, and a seal. The flange blank is adapted to be connected to the housing of a pump and includes a central bore adapted to allow the passage of fluid. The flange blank also includes a recess surrounding the bore that is adapted to accept the insert plate and the seal. The flange blank is connected to the pump housing by the use of bolts or other fasteners that pass through apertures in the flange blank beneath the insert plate. The insert plate includes a seal member that prevents fluid from the central bore from leaking outside of the flange.

  • Patent number: 6659511
Abstract: A flexible pipe joint apparatus for use in a fluid (e.g., water) transport pipe system for maximally absorbing an external force such as a compression or tensile force applied to a pipe of the fluid transport system due to an earthquake, differential settlement, thermal expansion or contraction of the pipe per se, thus preventing resultant damage at a weak portion of the pipe. The apparatus includes a receiving tubular member and an inserting tubular member insertable into and connectable with the receiving tubular member along a tube axial direction. A stopper portion is formed in an outer peripheral face of the inserting tubular member, the stopper portion projecting radially outward from the outer peripheral face.

Abstract: A pipe coupling includes mating hub sections engaged by outer split clamp elements that are compressed together against mating tapered surfaces of the hub sections to draw the hub sections together into tight fitting relationship. The clamp elements are driven into a compressed condition by an outer locking ring that fits over the split clamp elements to draw the hub sections together and to retain the hub sections against axial separation. The clamp elements have locking surfaces engageable by the locking ring and axial movement of the locking ring is limited by appropriate stop surfaces and retainers. A locking sleeve installation and removal tool utilizing an actuator system is described.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to a coupling assembly for sealingly coupling a first tube and a second tube. The coupling assembly comprises a first and a second tubular fitting, a flange on the first tubular fitting, a flange on the second tubular fitting, and a gasket. The assembly is preferably sealed by a clamp. The first tubular fitting has a proximal end for receiving a first tube and a distal end bearing the flange. The flange has a protective ridge thereon which extends outwardly from the flange. The second tubular fitting also has a proximal end for receiving a second tube and a distal end for bearing a flange. The flange of the second tubular fitting has a recess therein which is non-contiguous to the inside of the second tubular fitting. The ridge of the flange of the first tubular fitting projects into the recess of the flange of the second tubular fitting to form a close fit and partially filling the depth of the recess to form a gasket space.

  • Patent number: 6540266
Abstract: A cylindrical workpiece (20) is mounted onto and connected to a mandrel (14) that is itself mounted for rotation about a vertical axis (12). A first end portion of the workpiece (20) is housed within the mandrel (14). A second end portion-projects axially outwardly beyond a radial forming surface (60) on the mandrel (14). A first forming roller (30) is mounted on a swing post (52) that is positioned by an adjustable length strut (56). The strut (56) is elongated to swing the post (52) downwardly and place the roller (30) inside the second end portion of-the workpiece (20). Then, a lead screw (28) is used for pulling on a base (50) that supports the post (52). This pulls a convex face portion (32) of the roller (30) against the inside of the second end portion of the workpiece (20). Lead screw operation moves the roller (30), causing it to stretch the second end portion of the workpiece (20) and move it up onto and then move it radially outwardly along the forming surface (60).

  • Patent number: 6517125
Abstract: A cementing head is provided for introduction and separation of fluids in a well. The cementing head comprises a plug container having upper and lower fluid inlets oriented tangent to the bore of the plug container. The upper inlet is located below the upper end of the plug so that a compact manifold can be used therewith. The compact manifold includes first and second discharge tees which may be connected by a one-piece coupling such that rotation of the coupling in one direction causes the discharge tees to seal against a spacer therebetween and rotation in a second direction causes the discharge tees to move apart from one another. A coupling for quick coupling of the plug container to a casing collar is also provided. The coupling apparatus comprises a locking clamp having pivotally connected arcuate clamp portions. Each arcuate clamp portion engages a lower end of a casing collar. A threaded adjustment is provided for increasing an initial compression of a seal against the upper end of the casing collar.
