Axially Bolted Patents (Class 285/368)
  • Patent number: 7037065
Abstract: An arrangement for cooling or heating of a flange bolt for turbines comprises one or more boreholes, that extend through the bolt, and inlet and outlet pipes that are connected to each end of the borehole. A cooling or heating medium such as air, steam or any other fluid flows through an inlet pipe into and through the borehole thereby cooling or heating the bolt, and exits from the borehole via an outlet pipe. The cooling or heating arrangement enables direct cooling or heating of the bolt itself and ensures stable bolting forces throughout the operation of the turbine. The flange bolts with this arrangement may be applied to gas turbines or steam turbines operated at elevated steam temperatures and pressures.

  • Patent number: 7029037
Abstract: An apparatus (10) for connecting and sealing duct sections is adapted for connecting and sealing round ducts (100), round oval ducts (200), and other commonly used ducts. The apparatus includes first and second connectors. Each connector includes a tubular member (20) having an outside diameter that is incrementally smaller than the inside diameter of the duct to which it is attached. An O-ring (40) carried in an O-ring channel defined in the tubular member makes an air-tight seal with the duct. A radially directed annular flange (50) extends outwardly from an outer end of the tubular member. An outer perimeter of the flange forms a rolled edge (60). A gasket (70) may be carried between the outer surfaces of adjacent flanges of first and second connectors associated with first and second ducts to be joined. Duct sealer (80) may also be carried between the outer surfaces, with or without a gasket. A plurality of fasteners (90) may be used to fasten the flanges together.

Abstract: A metal pipeline section that has a metal flange at one end is lined with a plastic liner such that some of the liner extends beyond the flange end of the pipeline section. An annular plastic member is electrofusion joined onto the outside of the portion of plastic liner which extends beyond the flange end of the pipeline section and any liner extending beyond the annular plastic member is trimmed off to make the liner flush with the annular plastic member. The annular plastic member is then positioned adjacent the annular plastic member of another similarly prepared pipeline section and a containment ring is secured around them to restrain any outward movement of the annular plastic members when the pipeline is in use. The metal flanges are secured to each other such that the annular plastic members are compressed between them to prevent leakage.

  • Patent number: 6877780
Abstract: A band clamp used to connect tubular bodies such as vehicle exhaust system components. The band clamp has a band extending from a first end to a second end and includes a pair of spaced ribs extending at least part way between the first and second ends. A tightening mechanism is connected to the band and includes two clamp members movable toward and away from each other for tightening and loosening of the band. The band clamp further includes a gasket located on an inner surface of the band between the ribs and extending between the first and second ends. The use of the ribs with the interposed gasket provides a mechanical interlock of the band clamp with the tubular bodies while providing a hermetic seal at the junction between the two bodies.

  • Patent number: 6869081
Abstract: A gasket system for sealed interfaces utilizes a carrier ring having inner and outer compression stops to account for and control flange rotation effects in order to achieve a uniform and constant gasket seating stress across the sealing region. The inner compression stop provides a fixed fulcrum for flange rotation. The inner and outer compression stops have different heights, dependent upon the characteristic flange rotation, that allow the orientation of the sealing material to be angularly matched to the flange side profile and that allow the sealing material to be fully captured within the sealing region upon full compression, minimizing creep relaxation. A visual compression indicator on the circumference of the carrier ring permits assembly of the interface without the use of specialized or calibrated tools.

A first forming roller (30) is mounted on a swing post (52) that is positioned by an adjustable length strut (56). The strut (56) is elongated to swing the post (52) downwardly and place the roller (30) inside the second end portion of-the workpiece (20). Then, a lead screw (28) is used for pulling on a base (50) that supports the post (52). This pulls a convex face portion (32) of the roller (30) against the inside of the second end portion of the workpiece (20). Lead screw operation moves the roller (30), causing it to stretch the second end portion of the workpiece (20) and move it up onto and then move it radially outwardly along the forming surface (60).

  • Patent number: 6471256
Abstract: A duct assembly made from multiple duct sections for transporting pressurized fluid therethrough which can be formed simply by laborers at a building site or elsewhere and has a strong joint resistant to leakage. The joint rigidizes each duct section and the duct assembly, permitting duct assemblies including a greater number of joined duct sections to be put together and lifted into place The joint is formed by passing fasteners through a corner flange connection member associated with one duct section, through integral flanges of the one duct section and other duct section arranged in end-to-end relation with the one duct section, and through a corner flange connection member associated with the other duct section. The act of installing the fastener tightly pulls together the integral flanges and makes and integral connection between them.

Abstract: A one-piece, flanged, fluid-flow connector for connecting tube, pipe, hose or the like to a port face includes a base having a flat port face on one end, and a connection piece fixed to and extending from the other end. A set of tabs extends from the base, the tabs having apertures for mounting the connector. The base includes a reinforcement portion that transitions continuously from a lesser thickness adjacent the tabs to a greater thickness adjacent to the connection piece. The connector makes it feasible to provide a one-piece, two-bolt connector which occupies substantially less space than a comparable connector of the prior art, but which handles at least the same fluid pressures.

  • Patent number: 6467811
Abstract: The present invention is a flanged connection repair device and method for flanged pipe joints and the like that produces axial compression against the flanges of the joint so that the flange bolts may be removed and replaced, while simultaneously producing radial pressure on the sealant between the flanges, mechanically and radially compressing the sealant into the joint, directing the sealant around the full perimeter of the flanged joint. By providing both axial and/or radial compression the invention stops leaks in the pipe without interrupting the use of the pipe, duct work, and the like, and can be used permanently or temporarily, repeatedly, and under a variety of conditions including moderate to high internal pressures, vacuums, and temperatures.
