Abstract: Broken remnants of turbine engine rotor thru-bolt/nut interfaces are enveloped in a housing that is coupled to the rotor, so that the remnant does not migrate to other portions of the engine. In exemplary embodiments the housing directly mates with and engages the thru-bolt stud male threaded portion that projects outwardly from the nut, such as by a female threaded sleeve that is engaged with the male threads. The sleeve is in turn coupled to and/or supported by the rest of the housing. Some housing embodiments surround one or more of the threaded stud/nut interfaces. Housing embodiments of the invention are installed in situ without removing the rotor structure from the engine.

Abstract: A novel and improved puller that provides a safe and efficient manner and tooling to remove bearings, bushings, gears, etc. The invention is simple and highly efficient is its design and use due to incorporating multiple design elements into the main collets or bearing adapters. My present invention uses a simple split collet machined accurately to precisely fit the bearing being removed, in addition the same collet incorporates an upper threaded section to allow the removal sleeve to easily and precisely fit to the collet while at the same time the threaded removal sleeve securely keeps the collet together and properly aligned with the bearing and shaft axis to provide easy and accurate operation. Another design integrated into my puller is the ball thrust bearing on the end of the pressure or removal screw. This anti-friction thrust bearing eliminates undue friction and provides very free rotation of the pressure screw.

Abstract: A sealing element which forms a seal between a groove and an outer end of a crankshaft is installed by the use of a guide plate, an adapter and a press. The sealing element can be stretched over a frustoconical wall of the guide plate and slid along the cylindrical wall thereof on the outer end of the crankshaft. An adapter is then secured to the outer end of the crankshaft so that the press may be engaged over the adapter in sliding contact therewith to move the sealing element along the outer end of the crankshaft and into the groove. The sealing element may be removed from the groove by a puller. A rim of the puller is aligned with the sealing element as a drill is extended through passages in the rim of the puller to form holes in the sealing element. Screws are extended through the passages and self-tap into the holes formed in the sealing element. The puller is then withdrawn to withdraw the seal from the groove.

Abstract: An integrated circuit cartridge extracting tool includes a generally u-shaped frame including a crossbar and first and second legs extending from the crossbar. An upper bar is located adjacent to the crossbar. First and second rods are coupled to the upper bar and extend through the crossbar. Each rod has a dowel extending out from a lower portion thereof for engaging a device to be extracted, such as an integrated circuit cartridge. A cam lever is operatively in contact with the upper bar and the cross bar. The cam lever can be moved from a first position to a second position which causes the upper bar to move away from said crossbar.

  • Patent number: 5894665
Abstract: A tool for extracting bearings from a long shaft as well as method of doing same is disclosed. This method and tool begins with connecting a split sleeve about a stuck bearing. This sleeve is then placed in a case. One or more extension are then added, thus allowing the puller to reach bearings on long shafts. When a sufficient number of extensions are added, a cap having an extraction bolt, which engages the end of the bearing shaft inside of the puller is attached. The extraction bolt is then rotated in a clockwise manner which forces the puller, and the engaged bearing, in an outward manner from the bearing shaft. When the extraction bolt is rotated to the extent of its working range by being turned all the way in, the puller is disengaged from the bearing and an extension section is then removed. This allows the extraction bolt to be rotated in a counter clockwise manner to a point were it regains its full working range.

  • Patent number: 5551147
Abstract: An electrical connector is made repairable by providing a front insert which is removable from and retained in the shell by an O-ring. The shell includes an undercut in which the O-ring is mounted, and the insert includes a circumferential elliptical groove. In use, as the insert assembly is inserted into the shell, the O-ring mounted on the undercut of the shell is compressed by the insert until it reaches the groove, whereupon it expands into the groove in a direction parallel to the direction of insertion, which constitutes the major axis of the elliptical profile of the groove, and thus provides positive retention and sealing without the need for additional retention mechanisms. Removal is facilitated by a removal tool which includes hooks extending from a front circumference of a sleeve of the removal tool. The hooks are inserted through slots in the insert and past a collar provided around the mating interface of the insert.

  • Patent number: 5220716
Abstract: Tools for the disassembly of a universal joint comprise two embodiments, a pull-type tool and a push-type tool. In the pull-type tool, a pulling force is exerted on a yoke member other than the yoke member from which a journal bearing is to be removed, an opposite pushing force is exerted on that end or collar portion of the yoke member containing the journal bearing to be removed, and a cylinder/piston combination interposed between the pulling assembly and the pushing assembly operates to cause the exertion of the pulling and pushing forces, so that the journal bearing is forced out of the collar portion adjacent to the pushing assembly. With respect to the push-type tool, a cylinder/piston combination is mounted on a pushing or support assembly, and the cylinder/piston combination is operated to force the piston downward so as to exert a pushing force via the pushing assembly on the universal joint cross, thus forcing the far side journal bearing out of its yoke member.
