  • Patent number: 5662365
Abstract: A latch assembly for a lockset is disclosed comprising a cylindrical bolt including at least one axially extending flat portion and a cylindrical casing which is to be inserted into matched bore in a door and which includes a bore for receiving the bolt. The bolt and bore include cooperating structure for maintaining a desired orientation of the bolt relative to the bore as the bolt is displaced from an extended position to a retracted position. A cylindrical adaptor is provided for effectively increasing the diameter of the cylindrical casing including first and second semi-cylindrical portions displaceable into abutting relationship to capture the cylindrical casing and to define a selectively sized outer diameter. The semi-cylindrical portions are releasably secured together when they abut and have a radially inwardly extending end portion which together define an opening selectively configured to matingly receive the cylindrical bolt thereby defining a facing for the cylindrical casing.

  • Patent number: 5632166
Abstract: A locking mechanism for furniture unit is provided which utilizes a single component for translating rotary motion of a tumbler cylinder of a key lock into reciprocating, linear motion of a pair of opposing lock rods. The mechanism includes a base having a pair of linear guide channels which are defined by spaced sidewalls, a lock rod received in each of the linear guide channels, each of the lock rods having a radially extending projection engaging the sidewalls of one of the guide channels, a key lock, and an actuator which is attached to a drive shaft connected to the tumbler cylinder of the key lock. The actuator includes a pair of arcuate channels, each of which is at least partially defined by spaced camming surfaces which engage opposing sides of the projections on the lock rods, whereby rotation of the actuator in one direction retracts the rods to the unlocked position and rotation in the opposite direction extends the rods to the locked position.

The mechanism includes a dual element bolt throw and flush bolt actuator, which locks in place in the extended position if the end of the bolt is pressed inwardly. The throw includes a transfer mechanism which translates the horizontal movement of the bolt to vertical movement at the flush bolts. The flush bolts also include a mechanism to limit retraction thereof if the extending end of the flush bolt is exposed to inward directed force. The entire lock mechanism may be actuated by a standard cylindrical lockset having actuating jaws extending therefrom. The lock mechanism case may include an aperture therein, through which the handle housing extends, which aligns the jaws in the handle housing with the rear end of the bolt.

  • Patent number: 5350206
Abstract: An automotive door lock device comprises a lock proper having a latch mechanism installed therein. A main cover plate is fixed to the lock proper. The main cover plate has therein an interchanger mechanism operatively engaged with the latch mechanism. A socket structure is defined by the main cover plate. The socket structure has a terminal member of the interchanger mechanism exposed to an interior of the socket structure. An auxiliary cover plate has a shape to be detachably held by the socket structure and has an actuating member installed thereto. The actuating member is brought into an operative connection with the terminal member when the auxiliary cover plate is properly held by the socket structure.

  • Patent number: 5316353
Abstract: A structure is provided to prevent access to the latch pin of a dead bolt or latch lock. For dead bolts, a sleeve is provided which is received over the bolt frame in which the latch pin reciprocates. The sleeve is secured to the frame in such a manner that the latch pin cannot be accessed without removing the sleeve. For latch locks, a sleeve is provided with an extending tongue, which tongue covers the ears of the latch pin and denies access to the ears.

  • Patent number: 5308131
Abstract: A door latch has a housing for installation in a prepared cavity at a door edge and has interchangeable faceplates for finishing the door edge. The interchangeable faceplates each have an opening for permitting extension and retraction of a latch bolt, have a peripheral shape required for compatibility with the prepared cavity, and have features providing for releasably securing the faceplates to the housing and to the door edge. This permits installation of door latches regardless of the door preparation by merely interchanging the faceplates to match the door preparation.
