Patent number: 10508482Abstract: Provided herein is a doorstop that may be utilized to prevent opening of a door. Generally, the doorstop is configured for attachment near a bottom edge of a pull side of a door. The doorstop has a deployable wedge or stop element (e.g., stop cylinder) that moves from a suspended position, above a floor surface, to a deployed position in contact with a floor surface. After contacting the floor surface, any attempt to open the door imparts a rotation on the stop element. A radial dimension of the stop element increases along a length of a surface that contact the floor surface. In this regard, rotating the stop element provides an upward lift to the door, which is counteracted by hinges of the door. That is, rotating the stop element results in the door wedging, which prevents opening the door.Type: GrantFiled: February 26, 2019Date of Patent: December 17, 2019Inventor: Richard Floyd Schaefer

Patent number: 6471264Abstract: A door security device operative to secure the door in a fully closed and partially opened state is disclosed. A vertically oriented housing mounted close to the handle side on the inside surface of the door contains a coaxial brace bar, the bottom end of which extends out of the housing, but does not reach the floor. A second vertically oriented brace bar is slideably mounted onto horizontal rods, which are affixed proximate to the bottom of the vertical brace bar. To lock the door, the bottom end of the slideable brace bar is inserted into one of two different floor plugs, the first of which is positioned adjacent to the location of the closed door (bracing the door in a fully closed position) and the second of which is positioned slightly interior to the first (bracing the door in a manner that allows it to be partially opened). If no security is desired, the entire device may be lifted in the housing, rotated into planar contact with the door, and locked in an inactive position.Type: GrantFiled: September 5, 2000Date of Patent: October 29, 2002Inventor: Gary D. Patent number: 6454323Abstract: A high-security auxiliary door locking device includes a brace having an upper section which pivotally attaches to the inside of a door, and a lower section which engages with the floor at a distance spaced apart from the door. The lower section includes a pair of floor engaging ends, and the upper section preferably pivotally attaches to the inside of the door at a point above the level of the door knob. Although a single pivotal attachment may be used, in the preferred embodiment, a transverse bar is used across the back of the door, which hinges at two points near the side edges of the door. With such an arrangement, application of an entry force to the outside surface of the door, causes the door to move upwardly against the jam for additional resistance. To obtain entry from outside, a small lockable high-security door may be provided so as to enable an individual with a key to unlock the door, reach in, and pull up on the brace to gain entry. Preferably a chain is provided for such purpose.Type: GrantFiled: February 10, 2000Date of Patent: September 24, 2002Inventor: Lonnie Mills
