  • Patent number: 5577780
Abstract: A latch assembly is operated by either pushing or pulling against the end of, displacing a given amount of longitudinal travel, a spindle which has a helically formed portion of a given length engaged by congruently formed cam aperture surfaces. The cam is rotatably positioned with respect to and in engagement with the spindle. A rollback is contacted by one of two lobe surfaces of the cam, one corresponding to a pull of the spindle, the other corresponding to a push upon the spindle from the opposed end, the cam rotating in alternate directions. The rollback may be of a single piece with the latch member which is slidably held by the frame of the latch assembly.

  • Patent number: 5364139
Abstract: A door latch assembly (10) includes a latch bolt mechanism (60) having a bolt (62) movable between a door latching position and a door unlatching position. Assembly (10) further includes handle lever (16) and (36) at opposite ends of a square spindle 64. An adapter 68 is attached to spindle 64 and engages cam surfaces 158 and 160 of a slide 142 within mechanism (60) to facilitate movement of bolt 62 when either of the levers (16) or (36) are operated.A locking plate 44 is attached to spindle 64 for movement therewith and is formed with a peripheral notch 138. A locking dog 48 is selectively positionable within notch 138 to prevent rotation of spindle 64 and movement of bolt 62 when an attempt is made to operate either of the levers 16 or 36.A stop plate 230 is also mounted on spindle 64 for rotation therewith and is positioned to engage fixed stems 28 to preclude attempted movement of either of the levers 16 or 36 in an upward direction but permits downward movement thereof to facilitate movement of bolt 62.

  • Patent number: 4475364
Abstract: Door-barring lock apparatus has a bar member rotatably mounted to the wall near the doorway. When in a transverse or generally horizontal position, this bar member projects into the doorway for engaging the inside of the door near the opposite margin from the hinges for advantageously, positively barring the door against opening inwardly. By manipulation of a handle located inside of the building near the bar member, a person inside of the building can de-couple the bar from a locking rod extending through the wall to the outside of the building. Such de-coupling enables the person inside of the building to rotate the bar into an upright position for freeing the door to allow the door to be opened, regardless of whether this rod is locked against rotation. A lock assembly accessible from the outside of the building normally serves to lock the rod against rotation for normally locking the bar member in its transverse door-barring position.

  • Patent number: 4120525
Abstract: A latch assembly comprises a bolt unit mounted in a frame member of a door or window sash, and a bolt-driving unit installed on one side of the door or window sash. The bolt unit has a latch bolt supported by a rotatable hollow shaft, the bolt being pivotable between projecting and retracted positions by rotation of the hollow shaft. The bolt driving unit includes an axially movable driver torque bar having on one end a driver that is normally held in engagement partly with the hollow shaft in driving relation and partly with fixed engaging means of the bolt driving unit against rotation of the torque bar. By pushing the driver torque bar axially toward the hollow shaft, the driver becomes shifted out of engagement with the fixed engaging means, whereupon the driver torque bar can be turned about its own axis by an operator handle in order to rotate the hollow shaft for latching and unlatching operation.
