Abstract: An infant swing having a base, upwardly extending legs, and a coil spring-wound motor mounted on said legs, with the axis of said coil spring motor extending at a predetermined angle from the vertical above said base. A carriage is mounted to the motor such that it is driven by and oscillates about the axis of the spring. A swing support rod has one leg removably mounted to said carriage parallel to the axis of the spring, with the other leg extending substantially vertically downward and terminating in a substantially horizontal radle for supporting an infant seat beneath the carriage, whereby the oscillatory motion of the carriage causes the seat to swing in a substantially horizontal arcuate path. The infant seat is removably mounted to said cradle.
Abstract: A molded plastic swing seat has a pair of fully encapsulated thin flexible steel straps. To maintain the straps from warping or buckling under the forces exerted by inflow into the shallow mold of plastic material under high pressure, the straps are retained flat in a plane by the tips of closely spaced pairs of pins. Molding pressure forces a film of plastic material in the clearance beneath each tip, leaving the straps protected against corrosion. Since the embedded straps spread the force applied by ejection pins, the molded part may be ejected from the mold without waiting for it to harden, thus increasing production capacity.
Abstract: The chair has a seat or seat portion equipped with a balance and its linkage structure has links fixed in articulated manner to a support arm and to which there is articulated a balance device in parallelogram-like manner. A slide is slidingly guided on the balance device and is connected by means of a thrust rod to an extension arm of the backrest-side link. The slide is also connected to one end of a spring element, the other end of which is supported on the balance device. The linkage structure is supported on the backrest by means of a backrest strut articulated to the slide. The seat and backrest portions of the chair frame can be constructed as a plastic shell with a knee-side bending joint and a further bending joint between the seat portion and the backrest portion.
Abstract: A latch mechanism for securing a detachable seat to a frame such as that used on a child's swing is comprised of a hook depending from a hub on each side of the seat, and a U-shaped collar to receive the hub with a flange to engage the hook. As the hook slides along the flange, the angle of the seat with respect to the frame is varied, and a retractable bolt secures the hook at either of two positions along the flange.

Abstract: An attachment for use with common porch swings and the like which includes a foldable platform that not only serves as a foot rest but also provides means by which a rider can, with a small amount of effort, propel the swing from rest to a gentle swinging motion. In addition to the platform, the attachment comprises a supporting structure and a pair of flexible members from which portions of the platform proximate its rear and front edges, respectively, are suspended when the platform is fully extended. The attachment transforms foot pressure as it is being applied to straighten the platform for use as a foot rest into a force tending to propel the swing forward. Only a slight pressure is required to set the swing in motion. The action of unfolding the platform is coupled with an increase in tension on the flexible members supporting the platform to greatly magnify the non-vertical component of the force supplied by the rider's foot on the platform.
Abstract: A baby swing has a seat suspended from a horizontal rocking bar by two hangers. Mounted to the bar is a generally horizontally-mounted wheel or disc having a predetermined unequal weight distribution. A stationary DC motor drives the rim of the wheel which, as it rotates, causes the wheel and the shaft about which it revolves to rock back and forth, thereby also causing the rocking bar to do the same. The bar imparts corresponding swinging motion to the seat for a period of time determined by the current drain of the DC motor when operated from batteries.
Abstract: A hanging chair with seat (1) and backrest (2) is provided for its suspension with lifting slings (23,24) a top eye and crotch straps (25,26) at the seat (1). The slings and crotch straps are formed from a single hose of the type which dilates radially for axial compression and increases its inner diameter from a nominal value in an unloaded state and contracts the diameter for an axial pulling load. A portion of the hose forming the sling (24) is taken through a hole (10) in the seat (1) under the seat and up through a hole (9) therein to form the sling (23) and lifting eye, internally along the sling (23), out from it to the backrest (2), and after passing along the back of the latter, to the sling (24), up through an opening (21) in the latter and out. Another portion of the hose forms one crotch strap (25), and is taken under the seat and out to form the other crotch strap (26 ), continues inside the sling (23) up to and out through an opening (19) therein.
Abstract: A combination seat and swing for an infant whereby the device can be mounted at a conventional table providing a safe comfortable seat for an infant, then removed from the table and attached to a chain or the like to a tree, cross-beam or other supporting member thereby providing a swing for the infant.
Abstract: A swinging chaise lounge having a chaise portion pivotally mounted on a stand whose frame consists of tubular members cemented together the chaise portion pivoted to an oblique angle with the vertical when in a non-use position with the lower end of the chaise portion engaging the stand whereby the intended user of the swinging chaise lounge may readily and easily place himself on the chaise lounge without endangering himself.
Abstract: A stabilized oscillating chair has a base means, a column extending upwardly from the base, a seat assembly having bottom, back and arm rest portions, and a yoke assembly supported on the upper portion of the column for roll rotation. The yoke assembly is pivotable for yaw rotation relative to the base, and extends under the arm rests for pivotal connection for pitch rotation of the chair assembly. Roll pivot means are provided between the column and the yoke assembly, and pitch pivot means are provided between the yoke assembly and the arm rests. Pitch bias springs are connected with the pitch pivots to urge the chair assembly to normal attitude and have such resilience as to accommodate maintenance of the seat assembly level when occupied.
Abstract: A hanging chair comprising a plurality of flexibly attached crosspieces adapted to conform to the shape of the person sitting therein. A plurality of crosspieces are arranged in a parallel, slightly spaced, array. A plurality of short contour control boards are positioned with one end filling the space between the crosspieces near the crosspiece ends. A body cable is threaded through aligned holes through the crosspieces and first ends of the contour control boards therebetween. The body cable is fastened in a firm but flexible manner at each end. A hanging cable is threaded through holes in the other end of said contour boards (which are preferably longer near the edges of the crosspiece array and shorter near the center) and extended up to an overhead support. Since the second ends of the contour boards are not kept apart by intermediate crosspieces as are the first ends, the second ends move together, forming a rounded contour in which a person may be comfortably seated.

Abstract: A hammock chair includes a rigid, wooden seat frame and a net-like seat fabric extending between rigid frame members. The rigid frame has a quadrangle shape but has one open side. The net-like seat fabric thus forms a chair seat enclosed by rigid members along three edges, but not along a fourth edge. The rigid frame comprises side rigid members attached to the end of a rear rigid member by means of a tension rod which extends lengthwise along the rear rigid member and laterally through the side rigid members. The tension rod is closer to the back edge of the rear rigid member than it is to the front. In one embodiment the net-like seat fabric is attached to the side frame members by means of maple dowels extending through loops in the net-like fabric. In another embodiment the loops interlock with one another. The net-like fabric has a variable density weave. In the preferred embodiment, the frame is supported above the ground by means of an overhead tether support.
Abstract: A playground swing crossbar comprises a tubular extrusion having an upper portion, preferably of polygonal transverse cross section, and a lower portion of reduced dimension which is notched at its lowermost end to receive swing hangers. A rod received within a cavity defined in the lower portion pivotally supports the hangers, and caps located at the crossbar ends restrain the rod from longitudinal displacement. Recessed flat surfaces defined on the upper portion permit leg column sockets to be readily positioned and welded to the upper portion, and an embodiment of the crossbar permits spacers to be interposed between crossbars in a swing utilizing double crossbars.
Abstract: A hanging chair for use in conjunction with an overhead support wherein the chair includes a flexible seat portion having a substantially trapezoidal configuration with the shorter parallel side forming the back portion of the chair, the longer parallel side forming the front portion of the chair and the two non-parallel sides forming the side portions of the chair.
